I found them really good. I had an office chair break and they fixed it free of charge and delivered me and the chair home also for free.

We spent about 40,000 baht in there once and they gave us free delivery 100+kms away.

Seeing this thread again reminded me to ask Memock - where is Ken's American Bar and Bistro?

Very easy to find, very close to Sapphasit hospital. If you drive along the airport road (leaving the terminal behind you) go through the traffic lights on Uppalisan road and keep going. The next traffic lights are Sapphasit road with the hospital on your left. Go through those lights and Kens is 100m down on the right hand sign. Big sign, can't miss it.

My Sister in law got her passport done in Ubon on Wednesday.

The words are not just words but experiences from Krabi to Chiangmai to...very much, Bangkok.

So from tourist place to tourist place to errrr … tourist place you have managed to tar every policeman through out Thailand with the same brush. I don't think that is right.

On the other side of the coin the dealings I have had with thai police (mostly in Ubon) have for the most part been excellent but having said that I don't go around saying all Thai cops are great and they solve all their murder cases.

I used to live 100m away from Sunee and took my kids their regular. It was well priced, non swimming adults entered free, everything worked and the staff were friendly. Boy, how things change in just a few years. The price has doubled, now swimming adults have to pay, the staff *****(not allowed to bring my takeaway coffee that I had bought inside the Sunee complex in with me) and completely non existent around the pool. Never again.

The only highlight of the visit was the head gear that the girl at the kiosk was wearing.

They weren't answering their phone all day yesterday.

It was all action this morning.

malct, good choice with the T3. I am here right now. It is amazing how much the food scene in Ubon has changed over the last 10 years I have been visiting or living here. There is an amazing amount of restaurants scattered over the city and many of them are very good. I have a list of about 10 I want to try at anyone time.

If you don't mind shuffling them along with you for 8 hours along a que that stretches for about 500 metres.

Ubon was closed for us last week so all 5 of us had to go to Bangkok. 14 hours included 2 flights, 2 taxi rides and 8 hours waiting in a cue with 1200 people ahead of us. One of the worst days of my life.

I have always wanted to stay there but never has it been in an area that I need to be. Thanks for the nice report though Santisuk.

Speaking of breakfast... this morning I had a delicious Burrito while the kids raved about the pancakes at Kens American Bistro (near Sapphasit Hospital). Well worth checking out.

Sounds like Mr Somsak runs a nice tidy place. Perhaps it might be a good place to celebrate your upcoming nuptials Michael?

There are no flights arriving into Ubon between 9am and 12 noon which is why you would not have seen any taxis at 11am.

I'm glad you bought up that option as last time I mentioned it, it got snickered at a little. Yes I am still doing it and still for me it is the best decision I have ever made. My kids are going gang busters and our family lifestyle is one I am very proud of.

I'm glad that you are considering it as I am sure you will not be disappointed. I had a conversation with an expat at Tung Sri Muang Park just last week about homeschooling. He also had a 3 year old and was worried about what to do. When I told him what I did he was genuinely interested but I could tell that he really didn;t have the heart or drive to go down that road. You need to be committed but surely your kids future should be commitment enough.

Before people start howling me down, what I have written above is what is working for my family and I and in our special circumstances. Everyone is different and what works for me might not work for the next person. However, don't knock it until you try it.

Has anybody flown out of Don Muang internationally?

I have 4 hours to kill waiting for an international flight. Do I clear immigration and hang out around the departure gates or do I hang around outside (before immigration) Chasing somewhere to eat some lunch and perhaps have a cold one and perhaps something to do / see.
