  1. ^^^^ Unless you are very experienced at hand feeding baby parrots, stay clear.

The vendors will tell you it's easy... It is not.! :)

    Never buy an unweaned parrot.

Insist on hand-raised birds. :D & pay a bit extra.

    I could not agree more!

It is a difficult thing to do and very demanding, lucky I've done it many times before.

I'm suggesting anyone should by the babies, just that this place is quite intersesting and has lots of nice birds.

  2. Hi Guys

If you are looking for parrots, Maccaw, Cookatoos, African Greys etc. I suggest you check out the Sanam Luang 2 markets in Thonburi.

I've been there a few times and they have a very good range of birds. They also have some very cheap (sorry no pun intended) babies birds for sale. Although they need to be hand feed.

  3. Finner

It is on Hwy24, about 15km from Nong Ki (so must be almost in Nong Bunnak).

I didn't see any of the larger tractors i.e. 90's but they did have 2 of the Euro 55DI's available along with lots of other models.

    Hi Ootai

Thanks, I will have to see if I can find the place to have a look.

I have a place in Mukdahan and I'm looking for a decent almost new tractor.

Does anyone else have any leads on second hand tractors around the 45 to 50 hp mark?

Location around Bangkok would be OK, as I live there most of the time. However anywhere around Issan is fine.

  4. Vanilla essence in small bowls in the fridge, as well as baking soda on small plates. Both strategically place throughout the fridge.

These are both classic smell removers, you may have to do it a couple of times.

The other thing you might have to do is ensure that you cleaned the rubber door lines properly, I suggest with Vanilla essence mixed in a little water.

    Good luck.

  5. I was having a talk with the miss last night and started debating over which shopping mall is the "best".

Personally I like Tesco Lotus. Food and appliances are on normal standards BUT I love there food court!

Which pulls me to TESCO to shop....

on the other hand my girlfriend thinks BIGC is the Best! Bigger, better more products to choose from in all catergories...Also thinks the food courts better!

Which comes to my topic, Which do you prefer? and why?

You know that Tesco and Big C are the same company and same owner. :)

Not much differences between them. But the size changes depending on the location. I prefer Carefur which seems to have fresher fruit and vegetables

I'm afraid you are incorrect. BigC is owned by the Casino Group from France and Tesco Lotus is owned by Tesco UK.

  6. has anybody noticed the new flight times to PI....both departure and arrivals.....i checkek for mid nov and couldnt believe what i was seeing....it loks like there will be no more PI trips for me from bangkok to clark....

JF, I just saw the flight times.

    What are they thinking?

    Craig :)

  7. First of all, sorry, I know I have seen topics on this before, but couldn't find the threads on searching.

If anyone else happens across them, then a link would be well appreciated. (As always in a hurry today)

My Thai GF wants to improve her English at a language school, pref. between Asoke-On Nut.

She also wants to learn some Japanese.

The one school she has found is Stamford Education Centre in Ekkamai, who do not appear to have a website, and want a lot of money up front, with no trial course or anything.

Anybody know if this place is actually any good?

Any recommendations would be most welcome.

I could teach her myself of course, but we decided that's probably not the best option!

<P.S. Mods, if this is in the wrong forum, sorry, please move>

    TIA

    Hi Tendreams

I started my GF (now wife) with ECC when she first came to BKK.

In fact after the first set of lessons I signed her up for a full 12 months, which was at a discount.

I also use them at my work place to help up skill some of my staff.

They have a number of office close to BTS stations or a least only a short walk away.

  8. I'm coming to Pattaya next weekend with some guys I work with in Bangkok. We have tried to book a boat to take us out salt water fishing, however not one company will confirm a booking until the day before. I'm told because of the weather, which is fair enough I guess, don't want to have the boat sink on us.

Consequently I'm looking for some alternatives just in case we can't get out into the sea that day. I've been to Pattaya lots of time before and I have fished in one of the small fresh water parks on Sukhumvit. However I'm told there is a large fresh water fishing park just outside of Pattaya in the hills.

I was hoping one of the board members might help.

Has anyone ever been to the place?

Does anyone have the address or directions?

    Hi Roody

I think the salary survey link, is similar to most of these I've seen over the years. That is it is a limited very of the market which is most likely around 80% accurate. On the low end jobs is close, but on the higher end it's off the mark a bit. As I mentioned in my last reply, you need to check the work permit requirements as I believe you need minimum salary to get one. The other issue is that very few companies will hire an expat where a local can do the job. Even if it was for the same salary, because it's just too much trouble.

None the less I wish you well.

    Craig

  10. Hi Roodym

Your question is a difficult one to answer. I work in the logistics industry here in Thailand and salaries for non Thai's are pretty much based on demand and experience.

For example a standard operator in a distribution centre would generally start out at 6,500 baht a month. A base level clerical person would start at about 7,000 to 7,500. Supervisors are anywhere from 11,500 to 18,000. A senior contract manager might get as much a 130,000 to 140,000 a month. The low level salaried guys get a thirteen month bonus, more senior people are on performance bonuses. As for you, well that would depend on what skills and expertise you have that a local hire does not.

Sorry, i really can't much more specific and I suggest you try getting something closer to home to start. Otherwise, be prepared to work pretty cheaply, well compared to where you come from.

One other thing, there are specific requirements for work permits here so you will need to meet these requirements. Not least of which is having an employer.

  11. Nice house, looks like they did a great job on it.

I'm looking at building in Mukdahan most likely starting March or April.

Do you have the builders details?

Also, where did you find the majority of your fit out items?

    Thanks Craig

Craig, I have built in Mukdahan and good reliable builders ae few and far between, the best contactors are in demand all the time and you will have to wait until they can fit you in! We bought all our own fit out items in Ubon and Khon Kaen. It took a year to build because we were in no hurry and monitored the build throughout. There are still ongoing upgrades that I am doing myself but the house is in good shape.

I wish you all the best for your build and there is plenty of advice out there when you come up against problems (which you will wink.gif )

Insi- The new house in Nakhon Phanom looks great glad you didn't go for wooden window frames.. once you're all settled in and cosy the jingjoks, ants, termites, moths etc etc will start decorating your nice shiny house for you! tongue.gif

    All the best for 2009

Yes I tried to keep the wood to a minimum as I`ve seen the destruction that is caused from the above, all windows are aluminium and sealed. I bought most of the interior items from Homemart in Sakhon Nakhon after shopping around I found they had the best quality and choice by far over anyone else.

livingthedream - Nice looking house you got there congrats I like Mukdahan nice little place to visit.

Thanks Livingthedream. I'm sure there will be issues, but not overly concerned as long as I get through pass all of them.

Hi InSiSongkram, so was your builder local. Can you let me have any details about them please.

  12. I recently travelled from Bangkok to Canada via Hong Kong. Changing aircraft in Hong Kong I had to go through their security scanning. Imagine my surprise when they found a very shape knife in my bag!

Two hours later, after loads of police and security guards interviewing me I was allowed to catch my next flight.

I was in a hurry to get to the airport so I took my everyday work bag with my lap top and forgot I had a knife in it. I won't make that mistake again.

    Great security in BBK airport.

  13. My g/f came home one day and told me that one of the girls in her English class had a "dick that talked" :o . After I pick myself off the floor and stopped laughing I discovered she meant a talking dictionary. I explained the difference and she very embaressed, but laughed about it later.

  14. I've found the topic and responses very interesting and I agree with those who have said their reaction would depend on a number of factors, not least of which is how close you are to the person you bump into.

For mine, I only have one other comment.

Let those without sin cast the first stone!
