  1. It looks like Rooney is going to captain a team of younger lads for tonights game - I wasn't going to watch as it's a dead-rubber but after seeing the squad that Fergies put together I reckon I'll be there in front of my box come 1:45 cheering on the likes of Brandy, Dong, Eagles etc, I'm a bit of a sucker for the young lads and love to see them getting a go in the big arenas.

Good Luck Boys and Have Fun !

  2. Well, after all the hype around Mourhinio, it appears that it was all a bit of game, and he never really had any serious intention.

As it is, it looks like Lippi or Capello, both good managers with excellent track records. The only thing is, will England be even more boring to watch with some of the Italian defensive methods?

I noticed that Shearer and Pearce are being touted as potential backroom staff, but considering their lack of coaching experience and credentials it is a little worrying. Shearer is about as inspirational as watching paint dry, and Pearce hardly inspired players during his breif stint with Man City. The only problem is, where else do they go, if they want to bring in some English backroom staff?

<deleted>, we even end up with Sammy Lee again. :o

Any suggestions, as I am at a bit of a loss as to who might be a good appointment to assist the Manager.

    OLE GUNNAR SOLSKAJAER

Then again maybe we'll keep him at O.T., He would be good though

  3. In my copy of Bobby Charlton's "Book of Soccer" published in 1960 he selects the follwing team, electing not to include any Manchester Utd player:-

    Bert Trautmann (Machester City)

Djalma Santos (Brazil), Nilton Santos (Brazil)

Bozsik Hungary), John Charles (Wales), Dave Mackay (Sc0otland)

Julinho (Brazil), Kopa (France), Di Stefano (Argentina), Sekularac (Yugoslavia), Gento (Brazil)

Note no reserves on the bench though he does make mention of wanting to include Tom Finney & Stanley Matthews.

It would be interesting to compare it with a team that he would select now.

  4. Tywais, thank you for the apology and for taking the time to explain yourself.

I think there are many of us who are guilty of firing off quick "one-liners' more for their comic effect than for the good of the thread.

I was actually going to write this reply a little earlier but was sidetracked by the need to eat lunch, then on returning I see you have covered some of points that I was going to highlight, as in the standard of education we achieved and even which version of English we speak. I don't want to dwell on my own lack of education ( though at the time and place it was deemed sufficient) but what I do try to do is at least make every effort to dot my "i"s and cross my "t"s, (both literally and metaphorically) I believe it is not only essential in trying to make oneself understood, but it is also common courtesy.

I believe the Original Poster is trying to make a valid point and I personally don't see anything wrong in a little constructive criticism, so let's all try to make the effort to spell correctly wherever possible and to try to use punctuation where necessary.

I sincerely do not want to upset anyone with this post, and most certainly accept there are many of us from all walks of life, and from various points around the globe, allowances must be made for various reasons, but the OP's wish for us to correct the laziness and general "Dumbing-Down" that is occuring in our writings, is being taken onboard by this old bloke.

P.S. If anyone wants to point out any grammatical mistakes I am more than willing to hear of them.

(Then I'll be round to your place to rip your bl....... arms off !!!)

Congratulations Ryan Giggs on achieving 100 league goals,.. :D

I thought Derby came to Old Trafford and played with grit,

determination and at times a bit of flair, (certainly in the 1st half),

but they were always up against it and the only consolation was their first away goal

of the season. Teves continues to impress, he really does put in 100%, and I thought

Rooney was showing signs of returning to top form. Giggsy, what can I say ? The

man is a fantastic footballer and a model professional, leads by example and not afraid

to get stuck in and can still go on some mazey runs. One guy who I thought played well

again yesterday was Wes Brown, and it's a bit disconcerting to read that he may leave

O.T. come summer as he and Utd cannot agree on a new contract, which is rather a

shame as he has been a terrific assett to the club and comes in the John O'Shea

mould of not actually being a super-star but simply an honest and fairly versatile

professional. (I guess as he has been at the club since leaving school and seeing the

likes of the Nevilles, Beckham, Giggs and Scholsey etc move into the higher earnings

bracket, he too would like a slice of the action) C'est la vie..... :o

  6. It is a very old fortification - probably early iron age on the top of what I take to be an English hill.

I'm not sure why an earlier poster states that it is Long Mynd in Shropshire, I can't match it but perhaps he knows something we don't.

I do know that around Shropshire there are signs of earlier fortifications.

Given unlimited time and a dedicated site to British iron-age fortifications, it could be done - but not by this bloke..... :o

  7. The following is the first verse of of John O'Grady's poem

"The Intergrated Adjective". though I fear the descendents of Thomas Bowdler, who appear to run this site, may just prudishly alter it from the original.

I was down on Riverina, knockin' round the towns a bit,

    An occasionally restin, with a schooner in me mitt;

An' on one o' those occasions, when the bar was pretty full

An the local blokes were arguin' assorted kinds o' bull'

I heard a conversation, most perculiar in it's way,

Because only in Australia would you here a joker say:

    "Where yer bloody been, yer drongo? 'Aven't seen yer for a week;

    An' yer mate was lookin' fer yer when 'e comes in from the Creek;

'E was lookin' up at Ryan's, an' around at bloody Joe's,

An' even at the Royal where 'e bloody never goes."

An' the other bloke said "Seen 'im. Owed 'im 'alf a bloody quid,

Forgot to give ut back to 'im; but now I bloody did.

Coulda used the thing me-bloody-self, been orf the bloody booze,

    Up at Tumba-bloody-rumba shootin' kanga-bloody-roos."

    Munich tributes

Manchester United have announced plans to mark the 50th anniversary of the Munich air disaster on 6 February 2008.

    * United players to wear a retro 1950s-style kit against Manchester City on 10 February

    * Permanent, free exhibition telling the story of the Busby Babes

    * South Stand tunnel to be renamed the Munich Tunnel

    * Memorial service involving survivors, relatives of those who died, guests and fans

    * MUTV to broadcast free-to-air on 6 February

The centrepiece of the commemorations will be the creation of a free, permanent exhibition telling the story of the Busby Babes. The exhibition, to be unveiled in the South Stand tunnel at Old Trafford (which will be renamed the Munich Tunnel), will be open to all visitors and designed to educate younger fans about the Busby Babes' early triumphs, the tragedy of the crash, the rebuilding process and United's eventual European Cup triumph in 1968.

A memorial service involving survivors and relatives of those who died will be held in the Manchester Suite at Old Trafford. The service will coincide with the moment in 1958 that the plane carrying players and staff back from Belgrade crashed on take-off at Munich airport. Details outlining how United fans can join invited guests will be published in January.

In addition, United's subscription TV channel, MUTV, will broadcast a series of exclusive, in-depth features and documentaries on 6 February, when all programmes will be free-to-air and without advertisements to Sky and cable customers.

The Reds' closest home match to the anniversary is on 10 February against neighbours Manchester City, who provided considerable support and assistance in the immediate aftermath of the crash and whose former goalkeeper, Frank Swift – a journalist on the ill-fated flight – died in the wreckage. Following a request some months ago, the Premier League has agreed to set aside its usual rules on kit design to allow the team to wear a special 1950s-style kit in the match, free from sponsorship and numbered 1 to 11. The kit is a one-off and will not be available for purchase. All fans present at the 10 February game will receive a memento of the occasion.

Club Chief Executive David Gill said: “The Munich air crash was not just about Manchester United. It devastated the lives of the 23 families of those who died, as well as those who never played again and united a city in grief. Those who are able to remember it say it was Manchester’s 'Kennedy moment': everyone knows where they were when the terrible news came through.

“It is a heavy responsibility that those of us who work for this great Club and those who live and work in this magnificent city have to show respect, admiration and regret over that loss some five decades ago. I hope the exhibition will enable generations of fans to understand the place Sir Matt and his teams have in the Club’s history, from the birth of the Babes to his crowning achievement in 1968.

“I believe that, in partnership with the families, fans, authorities, Manchester City and our sponsors, we have created a programme that will enable everyone to remember, pay respect to and learn about a wonderful side, cut down in its prime.

“The sincere thanks of the Club go to AIG and Nike for their wholehearted backing for the kit change, and to the Premier League for allowing us to mark the event in a unique way.”

I thought we were after another striker (and still believe so - the following maybe smoke and mirrors) but if this lad is as good as Vidic then sign him quickly Fergie.

    :-

from manutd.comSir Alex Ferguson has said he is unlikely to dip into the transfer market in January, but he has also admitted that the only position he could strengthen is at left back.

Rumours have since emerged that United are tracking Lokomotiv Moscow’s versatile Serbian defender Branislav Ivanovic.

The former Serbia U21 captain currently plays in the full national side alongside Reds defender Nemanja Vidic, who signed from Lokomotiv’s neighbours Spartak in January 2006.

Ivanovic would set United back a reported £10million.

  10. Mr. Natural Lyrics

Artist(Band):The Bee Gees Review The Song (0)

    Burning embers.

I still remember all of those little things.

But I don't feel it so much 'cause I am so out of touch

with my heart and it won't sing.

    Rusty rainbows.

That's how the pain goes , turning me inside out .

Well , I come home at night and you are out of my sight.

Yes. I'm dying and there ain't no doubt.

Well, I'm dying and there's no way out.

Well I try try try try try

    Mr. Natural (come on baby)

When I walk in the rain you won't know that I'm crying.

A smile on my face and I'm trying.

I'm trying to understand that a love that is lost can never be found again.

And you see me dance , I look like a happy man .

Just when I think I'm getting it over, an old friend I should see.

He said he knew you well , and baby I could tell .

You know he knew you more then me.

I went home laughing and inside I'm crying .

We had a special thing .

You know I loved you so much , but girl I'm so out of touch

with my heart and it won't sing .

You know my heart just won't sing.

Well I try try try try try .

Mr. Natural ( come on baby)

When I walk in the rain you won't know that I'm crying.

A smile on my face and I'm trying.

I'm trying to understand that a love that is lost can never be found again.

And you see me dance , I look like a happy man.

Still I try try try try try .

Mr. Natural ( come on baby)

Well I try try try try try

    Mr. Natural (come on baby)

    (repeat verse and fade out)

  11. aa88, since you are reading this thread I have a question, which part of the answers you received last time did you not understand?

Newbie, two posts, both asking the same?

At least this time he said Hello & Thanks,

so something is getting through Crossy. :o
