  1. Ethereum never "crashed". The network did exactly what it was designed to do: raise blockspace costs when demand peaks. This, of course, drives up the transaction costs, as it should. And EIP-1559 ensured that a significant portion of those transaction fees was destroyed, putting upward pressure on the price of ETH. Ethereum's L1 is not meant to be used by retail users, that's what L2s are for. Only institutions, L2s and other whales should be putting transactions on the L1. During L1 blockspace peaks, blockspace on L2s like Polygon and Arbitrum remained low.
  2. My Mazda CX-3 has a 2L engine. Pretty sure the newer models do too. I believe the Mazda 3 has a similar engine.
  3. Pls give the good man a ribbon for stating the obvious. I guess one can make the news here in Thailand by stating that what the rest of world realized six months ago....
  4. "What use could this company make of an electrical toy?" - William Orton, president, Western Union Telegraph Company He was quoted making the above statement when having the change to buy the patent for the telephone "Do not bother to sell your gas shares. The electric light has no future." - Professor John Henry Pepper, on Thomas Edison's electric light invention "Everything that can be invented has been invented." - Charles H Duell, Commissioner of US Office of Patents, 1899 "Stocks have reached what looks like a permanently high plateau." - Irving Fisher, Professor of Economics, Yale University, October 16, 1929. "Irving Fisher, Professor of Economics, Yale University, October 16, 1929."There is not the slightest indication that nuclear energy will ever be obtainable. 5. Good choice! From my experience; when the car's driven every few weeks, there's no issues with rodents and other critters. We have only had this problem leaving the car unattended for months on end. If you're still concerned about rats, our exterminator guy (who comes to the house every few months to deal with prevent of ants, termites, etc) has used some sort of rat pallet poison in our ceiling. According to him, the stuff lasts for months (doesn't go bad) and when rats eat it, it'll kill the rats and sort mummifies 'em (so you won't end up with decomposing critters everywhere). Might be worth looking into. But if you do decide to take measures against the rodent issue, it'll probably need to maintained by your friend (with the exception of those poison pellets, if they indeed last for months). We don't bother anymore though; since we have had someone looking after the car once a month, we have had zero issues with rodents, bugs, etc. Of course, that's no guarantee your experience will be same (we life in a gated community, not out in the boonies, not sure if that makes any difference).
  6. Lol, well alright then ???? Maybe good to keep in the back of one's mind; being an expert in area doesn't make you one in all ???? I am sure there will be folks with credentials way fancier than mine that will disagree. I prefer to take the advice of a trusted mechanic over any PhD techie guy. Then again, it's always good to collect as many views on the matter as possible. I do like the idea of getting the car if the ground though... I am sure someone who's handy enough could figure out a way to make that happen. Not sure what the consequences would be on the suspension though, being "airborne" for months on end....
  7. Had zero issues leaving the battery on a trickle charger for months on end. If the charger does what it's supposed to do, it mimics the charging/discharging of the battery as it would when it's being driven. So there should be no problem leaving using this approach. Done it many times and never had issues (plus had this approach recommended by mechanics both here in Thailand as well as back in Europe). Disconnecting the battery will reset electronics, at least in the car that I tried it with (Suzuki S-Cross). Do agree with the last sentence though; the best option, by far, is to simply have it driven regularly (once a month for 20 minutes or so is good enough).
  8. A good bunch of those I see on Lazada look very similar to the one I bought back in The Netherlands. Prices seems comparable as well. If memory serves me; I spend about 30 euros or so (roughly 1000 baht). Furthermore, pretty sure the stuff's all manufactured in China, so doubt there's much difference between the ones here and back in Europe. Not sure what types you're familiar with in the US though (although I have seen the same kind as on Lazada in the US as well). This is what I got in Europe: https://www.bol.com/nl/nl/p/charge-it-acculader-en-druppellader-diverse-veiligheidsmodi-acculader-voor-auto-motor-scooter-boot-camper-12v-6a/9300000033937737/?s2a=. So far, it's been doing very well, also through the colder weather, rain, etc. If I would need one here in Thailand, I'd probably end up buying something along these lines: https://www.lazada.co.th/products/12v-8a-foxsur-fbc-1208-smart-battery-charger-by-nk-marketing-i317094021-s593370076.html?spm=a2o4m.searchlist.list.15.44722562RRZ9pY&search=1
  9. It's a nice life for sure; we are truly blessed to be able to do this. Bought a property in The Netherlands a few years back and are now enjoying the best of both worlds (Europe in the summer, Thailand during the colder months). As with anything, it comes with trade-offs and challenges, but worth it so far.
  10. We go through this every year, both here in Thailand as well as back in Europe (as we spend above 6 months in each place). In Europe it's slightly simpler; we have the car in a covered garage, hooked up to a trickle charger. This is really the next best thing to having someone drive it once in a while (once a month, for 20 minutes is plenty to keep both the tires and electrics in order). With newer cars, and all the electronics inside 'em, I'd always use a trickle charger if the car is left alone for more then 3 months. Disconnecting the battery doesn't do much; it'll still be drained in 6 months and you'll have to deal with resetting all the electronics. Another issue is the tires. If standing still for such a long period time, with constant pressure of the weight of the car/engine at a single point of your tires, you risk the tires getting out of shape (so I have been told by my mechanic back in The Netherlands). The next best thing to have someone drive it occasionally, is to put extra air pressure in the tires. Bugs, rodents and other critters are bigger issue here in Thailand and, frankly, we haven't found the perfect solution for this. Moth balls, etc help a bit, however these would need to be changed regularly since they won't remain effective for that long. We have had to deal with chewed wiring, etc a few times. Currently, I have my business partner look after our car while we're away (the Thai car) and he'll take it out for a drive once a month or so. That's really the best option you have, if you can manage it. Simply removing the battery and putting a cover over it isn't going to do much, other that reducing the amount of dust the car will collect. You'll still have to deal with all the other issues.
  11. Took the same step a few years back; back to Europe. Although we spend more time in Europe nowadays, we still own our home in Thailand and spend several months a year here. It doesn't have to be either or. Spend some time on the other side; when that's starting to become boring (or too cold), head down to Thailand for a few months. Tired of Thailand again? Hop back on that plane to Europe.
  12. Sorry bud, but one look at your profile pic and I find it very difficult to take anything you say seriously.
  13. Yawn.... ???? Definitely, definitely not going through this whole exercise again my friend. But by all means, keep up the uninformed drivel. It does add a certain "je ne sais quoi" to these threads.
  14. Are they unable to explain it, or are you unable to understand it. I have explained on several occasions to you, in detail, how I earn money in DeFi without depending a buyer to take assets off my hands. Anyhow, I have zero interest in going through another such discussion. I haven't read the article, just scanned through it just now, but I am familiar with the author's views. I have yet to see Moxie make claims along the lines of "crypto is a scam", "crypto does not create any value", "crypto has no future", "defi does not improve finance" etc. So your question on whether or not "he doesn't get it" does not make much sense in this context. All Moxie does is be skeptical of Web3, which isn't all strange (considering he's spend a significant part of his career at companies like Twitter, Whatsapp, Google and Facebook) and raise some concerns regarding the level of decentralization of certain projects. He's certainly not alone in that aspect and I personally know many people, in the crypto industry, who are skeptical of the "Web3 promise", including myself. We have yet to see how this will play out. Same thing for NFT's. Not everyone who likes the premise of decentralized finance and digital sound money is into paying insane amounts of money for jpeg's. Moxie's stance on Web3 is hardly unique though, and imo represents the typical SV view on possible progress in the digital age in a manner beyond their control.... Web3 ≠ crypto ≠ NFT. You might find Vitalik's response to Moxie's views interesting as well:
  15. It's funny how every single crypto related thread on TV gets completely derailed by a handful of anti-crypto fanatics... To everyone still considering engaging with these "experts", may I suggest you save yourself the trouble? It's truly not worth it. There's some people that get it, and there's some that don't. This was the same with the invention and rise of the printing press, internet, email, mobiles, e-commerce, etc. No matter what happens, these people have dug themselves into their narrative so deep, they will most likely never come around. And that's perfectly ok. There's probably still some old-timers around that claim e-mail can go away anytime now because paper and ink still works....
  16. One caveat with Ethereum I should probably touch on is gas/transaction fees which currently aren't exactly low. When entering a DeFI position on Yearn, you're looking at $200/$300 in fees (depending on the day of the week, time of the day, etc as gas prices do fluctuate). This doesn't matter a whole lot if you entering a 5/6 figure position, but if you're looking at opening a small position, this would be a problem.
  17. Anchor Protocol is a DeFi protocol on Terra's blockchain, so if one was interested in earning yield on UST or other Terra stables, Anchor would be the place to do it. It's solid platform with good yields (I've been investing in Terra's ecosystem since day one). However, the available range of options is limited. You'd have more options, and some with way better yields on Ethereum. While browsing Yearn just now, ran into a vault for EUR stables (ibEUR and sEUR) with currently returns around 40% APY.
  18. I'd need to know a little more about what it is exactly that you're looking to do; and where you're looking to do it. If you're simply looking for some options on earning yield with stables, I'd recommend looking at Yearn Finance. Yearn has been around since the beginnings of DeFi and provides automated yield farming strategies; ie all you need to do is deposit your assets and the protocol automatically deploys it in such a way that your assets earn the highest possible yield (compounded as well). Their basic USDC vault generates around 5% APY. I have been using one of their EUR bases vault which has done around 14% APY to date. USDC wouldn't be your highest earning stable though, and if you're not locked into USDC I'd explore other options as well. Terra's USD stable (UST) has excellent rates as well (I believe around 13%), but this wouldn't be through Yearn (and setting this up will be slightly more complex). If you're looking for the easiest possible yield, Yearn would be the way to go. Their Tether vault does around 11% as well if that's something you're interested in (I wouldn't touch Tether with a ten foot pole, but to each their own). Hope that helps. If you have any more specific questions, I'd be happy to help.
  19. Semantics. But sure, technically correct. I only used that wording since the embassy in The Hague did so as well (literally just copied the wording from their post on FB).
  20. AFAIK that is correct; this is the procedure as confirmed on the TAT's website (updated after today's meeting).
  21. Why? You can still enter on the 17th, assuming you have a Test&Go QR code.
  22. Thanks for double checking and confirming this. And I guess we have to thank the Thai embassy in The Hague for being the only official government source bothering to actually share this non trivial information with the world ???? Still can't help but feeling a bit uneasy though.... would be great if other official sources would confirm this.
  23. I found this just now as well: https://www.tatnews.org/2022/01/thailand-reopening-exemption-from-quarantine-test-go/ Press release updated today after the meeting. No mention of a cut-off date. Starting to think that the embassy in The Hague might indeed be correct.
  24. Same here. At this point, it's still 50-50. Although this particular embassy has been on top of things during the entire pandemic. Still haven't been able to find any other official source confirming or contradicting this. All I can find is an article on The Taiger from a few hours ago, mentioning that the cut-off is in place, but with a "door left open to possibly extending it"... Some clarity would be nice.
  25. Since this seems to be such a hot topic at the moment, I figured I'd share our recent findings. We have been informed by the Thai embassy in The Hague that the Test&Go cut-off date has been revoked. This was shared through a post on the embassy's Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/ThaiEmbassy.Hague/posts/4896993847019655 Since myself and my wife are scheduled to arrive on the 17th, we have been following the recent developments closely. After reading said FB post, my wife checked with the Thai embassy who confirmed that we can indeed enter the kingdom on the 17th with our already issued Test&Go QR codes. I haven't been able to find any confirmations just yet, but during the past two years the Thai embassy in The Netherlands has been very quick to provide up-to-date information regarding the latest entry restrictions and changes to these restrictions. Hence, we are cautiously optimistic that this is indeed what has been decided during today's meeting regarding this possible cut-off date.
