  1. Hopefully this crackdown will be like many others, short lived. A lot of people legitimately working, studying, living, or touring here, do border runs occasionally between visas. They should be able to differentiate between someone doing it a few times, and someone doing it for 5 years.

If you're legitimately working, then you have a work permit and a visa that doesn't require a border run. If you're legitimately studying, then you have an education visa that doesn't require a border run. If you're living in Thailand and are doing border runs, then you're not living there legitimately. Small inconvenience for the the tourist that is currently country-hopping, but anyone planning to do that in the future now knows.

  2. I'll just add one further comment, since you should already realize from the other responses that the landlord has every right to enter the property. What is a "reasonable time" is now up to you to negotiate with the landlord. The one drawback to pushing this issue and potentially pissing off the landlord is, what type of response will you get when you need them to actually come fix something? I'm guessing, having dealt with many immature Thai landlords, that they're not going to be in a hurry to rush over. I believe there is a saying that says something about cutting off your nose to spite your face????

  3. I bought an LED smart TV to replace my old Plasma and my electric bill went down about 2000 Baht a month. My wife watches a lot of TV so you probably won't get the same savings. My 55 inch LED uses 124 watts and my 50 inch Plasma uses 450 watts. Go with the LED

    LMFAO!

  4. .....I am frustrated with the food situation in Thailand: no smoked BBQ, no common American food items like meatloaf and beef stew (yes, they are here but nobody makes it good), no Chinese food (American Chinese), no Mexican food (Tex-Mex) and no place to even get a good hamburger.

Here's your opportunity to fix the situation!

  5. That would depend on which "disk" your operating system is on. But regardless, the fuller and more defragmented your hard drives become, the slower the access time becomes. It also depends on what type of hard drive you're using; SSD's are not intended to be defragmented. And it sounds like you're probably using a Windows OS, which is your biggest problem.

  6.

An external drive, or desktop drive, is available up to 4Tb.

Not correct. Read my post again. There are 8TB Thunderbolt desktop drives for Mac.

As stated by another poster, that is a dual drive; two 4Tb drives stuffed into a single enclosure. It's actually considered a NAS but since you're not concerned with Semantics, how about my current "external drive" which is capable of holding 18.19 Tb of data. I currently have only 10.91 Tb of usable space on both of mine. http://www.drobo.com/products/professionals/drobo-5n/

  7. External and portable can mean two entirely different things. An external drive, or desktop drive, is available up to 4Tb. It will require an external power source and is not something you can stick in your back pocket. Portable drives currently top out at 2Tb, are powered via the USB/Firewire connection and can be small enough to stick in your pocket.

There is no conspiracy theory, it's all about the current available technology!
