  1. The woman was already on the fringes of respectable society looking in, so it doesn't matter if she marries this scruffy guy. She has nothing to lose since it seems she lost her dignity long ago. It's her life. I don't think her kids will be too happy, but as long as she gives them money I'm sure they will be ok. This is not high society. It's a low end singer who is in the twilight of her career.

Actually she is still very popular and I think her kids don't give a shit what she does. How do you know she is a low end singer?

Looking on the Youtube videos most of her songs generate a million over plays. Certainly not bad for a low wend singer. I know several low-end singers that still generate 60-70,000 Baht a month in licence fees and they do better then many farangs.

I wish both of them good luck.

  2. Can anyone confirm or deny the statement that units bought under the foreign quota (I'm assuming that's the 49%?) can only be purchased for personal dwelling? And does that mean the personal dwelling of the owner only- i.e., not for rent to others? That would put quite a wet blanket on some of my foreign coworkers who own multiple condos for rental income...

Or they simply allow there wifes to buy them problem solved and no not your money gift you give your wife which I belive is allowed.

Your 'Wife' will need to prove the money came from her own right and not 'Gifted' from outside of Thailand.

Not really. If it is a condo you can give it as a present to your wife. Just done it last week with one of my studio's on Sathorn.

  3. So, a foreign Phuket condo owner is sitting in their house in the UK, Europe, America etc, and places their condo on AirBnB.

A tourists books the condo for 2 weeks, and forwards AirBnB payment.

AirBnB forward payment to the condo owner's foreign bank account, minus commission, and the foreign condo owner is "working" in Thailand and needs a work permit. cheesy.gif

Thailand continues to embarrass itself on the world stage.

Cant see how he can control nightly rentals on Air BNB. You need to be there to welcome them , give them keys and help with tourist questions , these people are needy. I used to rent a place out in Bangkok monthly only and that was a pain the arse and I was in the country! No way he will be using Air BNB from OS. He would be looking for minimum 1 year rental and an agent to manage busted air con unit or fridge etc

Easy solved. I have rented so many time a condo or studio in Bangkok, Phuket and recently in Pattaya and I have never ever met once a foreigner who gave me the key but most of the time it was a friendly maid who arranged for everything.

In addition I have stayed 28 years in Thailand and never had a problem in renting a place and I always even got my deposit back. The language is a key factor of course.

  4. As mentioned previously, she never worked alone.

She had big backers, she had high up connections with the RTP, Politicians and others............now she's jailed, and the case seems to be LM......she cannot defend these charges and cannot name others involved with her.............she's been hung out, and of course, it's all her fault!!

The only people saying she has hi backers are the posters here at Thai visa. Yes she had to have some cops onthe payroll and may be a judge but to keep saying she has some very high support makes a few posters here as dillusional as she is. Let the cops do there job and see how it shakes out, no one especially here has a clue other than what they read in the newspapers and here

You got to be joking. A cop never investigates another cop in this country.

Why the Pracha Chuen (Bangsue) cops have not been arrested? It's a typical clean-up.

Nothing comes out of this investigation.

  5. Its no longer that easy to find IT or software development jobs in Thailand. What is currently needed are developers that are familiar with the PCI DSS standards and their seem to be a shortage of Thai's in this field.

My suggestion would be to look outside of Thailand.

I have been working in the Thai Software industry for over 2 decades and yearly billings dropped from 7 million Baht in 2012 to just 850,000 so far this year. I do have to be honest that my Singapore company only works with expatriate management and we never deal with local Thai companies but the billings outside of Thailand (licencing fees).

As to your post you should only setup a company if you actually can land some good contracts. I know many many software companies in Thailand that were run and managed by expats but many shut down. The one still in business are very unique and focus mainly on SAP and ERP projects.

    Good luck

  6. ...too many scams against foreigners just trying to follow the rules....

...they get lied to deceived and cheated by locals....

    ...then they lose everything....

...and the local criminals simply walk away...to seek out more hapless foreigners...

    ...this is not right.....

Its certainly not right but the farangs on TVF will love it because most hate Chinese from the mainland.

If you shut down a company it means a lot of people from mainland China will be stranded in Phuket. The local operator negotiates the room rates and it all comes to volume. If they had 53 buses and 29 speedboats you can be assured that they moved 2-3000 tourists per day within Phuket and they work with a very large outbound operator in China. As CITS is the largest outbound operator in China I suspect that CITS supplied the flights and package tours to the ground agent.

Its no rocket science that outbound operator anywhere in the world works with companies here in Thailand where management talks the same language. My guess this will backfire on Thailand but due to cheer jealousy of some local Thai's this whole case exploded.

I hope it is CITS thats behind because it is the Chinese Government and the Thais'should be careful to <snip> around with the Chinese and it would be more smart for the Thai's to go after the farangs as they have no economical clouds anymore on the Thai tourism industry.

  7. My guess is that they paid for the ID card which is actually ok. Many foreigners that became Thai citizen made a large contribution between 1 - 10 million Baht.

If everyone investigates further they only charge 2 foreigners that became Thai but no Thai's are mentioned in the scam.

My guess those other nominees including the company sectretary and the Thai's that setup the company and provided the additional directors will be moving forward to take their place and the business will run just normal in a month or two months time.

  8. looks like he is welcome like a good friend

and he smiles like he is going to holidays - may be he is?

If he's to do his time in Udon Thani it's unlikely to be that much of a hardship as he's very well connected and no doubt will get a lot of privileges etc.

He should be moved somewhere his red shirt mates can't look after him and he'll have to do something approaching real time.

If the crime has been done in Udon Thani he will be jailed in an Udon Thani jail but it is possible to put him into the Sawang jail around 70km away.

  9. What it really means is that the Thai economy is sinking. Of course the global economy also drops but Toyota went through a lot of global economical problems but the Thai market for Toyota vehicles did very well.

I myself have not got a job offer for the past 6 months in Thailand as tourism numbers from the EU and Western countries is very low compared to last year. Thankfully we saved a ot of money for the rainy days so it doesn't affect me for another two or three years.

  10. One of my friends back home is a Christian Iraqi (refugee) and I just want to quote him on this...

"Under Saddam Husein Shia, Sunnis, Christians and even Jews lived together in peace in my city then US invaded Iraq and all the non-Muslims (and even some Sunnis) that didn't leave was killed!"

Don't forget the Kurds - oh wait, he gassed them with poisonous chemicals.

He was a ruthless dictator who murdered any who resisted, spoke freely or opposed his brutal regime in anyway. He advocated murdering the relatives of those guilty of political crimes - reasoning that way families would police their relations behavior.

Hitler, Stalin, Mao, must all have done some good things. Trouble is the bad outweighs the bad significantly. Saddam was bad.

But at least under Saddam we had no bombings or killings in Europe by ISIS. IS operates out of failed states such as Iraq and Libya. Thanks Buddha at least Syria was saved.

In the last century we had many European countries having chemical weapons.

  11. its a marketing tool, so what? why does it bother you?

also each hotel gives the hotel booking sites an allotment.

just cause it says "ONLY 1 left" does not 100% mean its true.

there alot more things to spend time on than something like thisrolleyes.gif

You hit it spot on. Agoda on some hotels has 5 room allotments and booking.com 10 room allotment.

I know for a fact that some hotels are sold out within hours if you look for rates tomorrow or last minute today.

  12. "cops who get paid peanuts to do their jobs"...yes...BUT most of them DO NOT their job(s)..And YES,not all cops are bad,BUT..if i could say that MOST of the Thai cops do a good job..well then i would say -good on you for helping then out...BUT those i met during my 15 years here are NOT good workers..BUT good on him and his Thai wife to support the corr*** policeforce..He and his wife will have 110% support from the local P-force..Sorry to sound synical,BUT this is my personal thoughts..

Sounds to me like he is doing a good deed and helping out some up-country cops who get paid peanuts to do their jobs, many of which find themselves in serious financial hardship (especially the ones trying to do an honest job without taking kickbacks. Yes, its true, some do not take bribes). If it was a payoff for protection, it wouldn't be a public donation like this. Come on TV'ers, put your cynicism away for one day. Not all cops in Thailand are bad. Believe it or not, you may rely on them to save your skin one day.

I have been in Thailand for 28 years and most of the cops I know just do their job and I have been befriended with them for a very long time. I have many cop friends at Thonglor Police Station and they never once took a bribe.

As for the American gent that coughed up 500,000 Baht I think he did a good deed and as he has given before to other charities I guess he has a good chance to apply for Thai citizenship in the very near future. When their was last time flooding around Bangkok our office bought water and distributed it via the police station in Nonthaburi. A photo was taken as well and it was valued at around 150k.

  13. Real benevolent donations done without the fanfare and photo opp.....

the fact the donor will benefit from his generosity someday,

    is not lost on anyone....

He has his benefit already. Making a show of giving. I have a lot more respect for someone who gives anonymously.

Oh god, please understand the logic here. The guy give money to police they so happy, gf work in bar as dj so now police will not go bar if open after hours. An pay tea money. Everything sorted.

    Get it now.

She is a DJ at the radio station.

  14. I have a red stamp written in Thai next to my Thai stamp last visit stating 5 years ban in my UK passport.

I do have a brand new Aus passport never used for entry in Thailand in which my question is based.

Thanks for all comments and insight

I think you will have no chance as the system triggers a manual review which would mean they compare the photos of the two different passports as a starter.

  15. Why the need for a sub....?

"face" ... Army gets their new tanks and things, Navy gets their subs to tie up at the dock and watch them rust away.

No actually most would say this is part of the buyout to keep the other branches of the military in line under the Army. In the past, some of those other groups joined the people and went against the army leaders who hijacked the elected government.

Are you implying this is some kind of "bribe" from the Army to the Navy to keep them in line? wink.png

And who gets the brown envelopes tho, that's the bigger question ... Army or Navy?

My guess wire transfers to Singapore.
