  1. Thai Airways was always under the Finance Ministry and The Ministry of Transportation.

This could backfire to the former Chuan government as Suthep was the former Transport Minister and possible also to the former Chavalit government and if I remember correctly Chavalit was the PM and earlier the Transport Minister.

No need to keep the Thai public waiting until year-end. Just check the EVP of Procurement since 1990 and you can be sure that everyone got a cut up to the top.

Some TV posters on this forum  dislike Suthep and consequently  they post a lot of hateful opinionated views on him.( and it seems that they post similar veiws on a lot of others). But they are completely irrelevant because he still has the support of a huge number of Thais. They Just can't accept this fact.  He may  even have enough support to become the next Prime Minister. !!

Of course he has enough support one day to become PM. Only needs a few hundred members of the Army. The North and Northeast wouldn't vote for the crook and the Muslims in the Deep South too wouldn't vote for him. Leaves him only in some Central regions and of course Samui and Phuket but the Singha Girl might have a shot for it.

Could you explain why it is stipulated that you need to be employed for a METV? Given your own question as above.

IMO, they made a mess of this visa by restricting it to be issued only in your home country (for most, I know there are a few exceptions) and by the restriction of proving employment. Extract those two things out of it and they can save face while giving people the option of a longer stay in-country.

As you rightly state, how many employers would keep the job open for someone utilizing the METV to the max?

Its the same when Thais want to apply for a tourist visa to the West such as Schengen. They need to show property many times and a stable job. Their are many farangs in Thailand that do not have a stable job and they work under the radar because those companies that employ them don't have enough paid-up capital. I know plenty of them and just meet a few last week on a beer.

A METV is the best option for most people that want to stay longterm in Thailand and that are willing to fly back to their home country to get it.

If they are not emplyed but can show they have cash in the bank account most embassies will issue that METV.

    Wrong.

If this proceeds through the courts which is likely due to the media coverage, their passports will be seized and 3 or 4 court appearances over the next 3 months will be required.

Police, military did the raid.. lots of people involved since they were booked at police station.

$5000 US would be my guess as to the costs for each person to fix this problem.

Not at all. They are first time offenders. Fine will not be more then 5000 Baht each but the dealer with the 20 grams might get 6 months bail to reach court and start already with installment payments.

Ok but for 7 years, you had no issues did you?

If it bothered you that much, you'd have moved.

Farangs don't understand that the average Thai wakes up at 6am and those announcements by the PYB is very important, specially to the elderly villagers.

When I am staying at the Dusit Thani things is so quiet I sleep with my Mrs and baby boy until 10 in the morning but when in Isaan I am used to it already that the monks start opening the speakers at 4am in the morning, the PYB announces at 6am on the speaker who passed away at night, the crazy school taxi pickup truck announces by blaring music that they will soon pass by to pick up the kids (not my one) but the little brother of my Mrs.

Then their are the loud firecrackers that got off at 3pm and we know someone bite the dusts.

Tesco Lotus shouts on the speaker with a volume for me unbearable that a kilo pig now is only 109 Baht a kilo and Mrs says she going over and buys 2kg. She says fuxk that market that wants to charge 139 Baht a kilo and things great that Tesco announces it on the speaker. I told her why not just read the brochure when entering the store and she says no, they read the pricelist on the microphone.

Do I agree with it? Sometimes not but hey I am living here and after almost 29 years it's not really a problem for me and sometimes after a couple of drinks I am too taking the speakers out but I do keep the bass a bit down and at 9pm I stop.

I had a very quiet time when I stayed for 3 years at Nichada Thani renting a house at the lake for 180,000 Baht per month. I miss sometimes Nichada but prefer to just save up the money to put it in the future education of my boy and happy to have the sound around if it allows to save some good money for my kid.

If I don't like the sound of Thailand I can leave Thailand with my wife and baby boy, and possible ny a condo somewhere else such as Nichada Thani or at least rent a condo at Danicha Garden which goes for around 50000 Baht a month and a Villa Market at Nichada is included.

Any farangs that complain about loud sound? Have a look at Nichada Thani, great place to stay and ISB is next door for your kids (450,000 - 1.2 Million Baht per year) with Villa Market inside Nichada and very near to CW Immigration for 90 days reporting at only 60,000 (excluding Villa Market shopping and schooling) - 290,000 Baht per month.

I don't want to be sarcastic to the TV community but Thailand has great options for anyone that wants to feel like they are staying in the West.

As for me I had that HiSo life and happy with the speakers around the Tescos, BigC's and villages. As I understand the PYB's announcement on the speakers on Thai, I am the one that wakes up the Mrs and tell her who just popped off the night before.

  6. Malaysia was once for me the most open-minded Muslim country but this one is now Indonesia.

Indonesia and Thailand have many things in common from a cultural point of view which dates back to centuries of the Javanese and Thai tradition.

Indonesians are very open minded as long they have their salary they stick to their families.

I do believe Indonesia has a lot of fanatics and nationalists but the Pancasila is part of their constitution and no General in Indonesia could ever try to manipulate the constitution as the Generals have done in Thailand for such a long time. Their have been coups in Indonesia too but they never went against their constitution and until Yodoyono he at least promised peace with the Acehnese when he took power by election and the peace still is in force.

Looking at Thailand and the Army they have not been able to come up with a real peace plan in the Deep South and don't give really a hook if their personals get blown off but are more obsessed with curtaining the Red's which are the only treat to the establishment in Bangkok on loosing once again the power.

As for the Iranian woman, I pity her but the pervert Western Media can jump on that sad case that might end up with her execution. My guess she will not be executed and possible blood money can be paid.

Oh yes, I have visited Indonesia many time and never had a problem with anyone in that country, but the same can be said I never had a real problem in Thailand except with some farangs.

    Indonesia dari Thailand Boleh lah

I hear a load of old fellas up in Isaan have long overstays. They don't plan to leave the country, visa costs are too high for them so instead are keeping a low profile

I think the overstayers in Isaan are not that high. I only knew of one guy and most are on retirement extensions and have either 400k or 800k in the Account.

  8. I was a dropout at school and decided to move to Thailand at age 22. I am now 51 years old and also I still make good money to the average farang that lives in Thailand but things has got tougher.

Thanks Buddha, I got involved in the Software and IT industry in the early years and opened up a lot of doors but the years have changed.

To the OP get a good degree, learn Thai and since you are still young learn a couple of more Asian languages and then make your move to Thailand but remember, to land a good job (150-300k),  connections are very important.

Wonder if Mr DiCaprio flew (as usual) to this jamboree on his environmentally friendly private jet?

Yeah I too read some reports a few months ago that he traveled on his private jet to pick up some climate award somewhere in Europe.

Still have to laugh about the Wolf of Wall Street movie he did financed by the stepson of the Malaysian Prime Minister with money that was plundered by those crooks from the Malaysians.

DiCaprio is as fake as someone can get and he has absolute no ethics.
