Yes, I understand perfectly well the difference between gender identity ("cisgender" v transsexual) and sexual orientation (heterosexual v homosexual). This person has gone from a cisgender heterosexual to a transsexual homosexual all in one swoop. I suspect it is a fairly big adjustment for a person to go through. The reason so many people (particularly older people) don't try to make sense of such things is that they don't really care. It is not part of their world. They don't run across the concept in their daily lives. They see the world through the lens of gender(male v female) not gender identity. Then they are portrayed as horrible bigots because they don't understand the terminology.

So, this person transitioned not just from male to female, but from straight to lesbian? It doesn't really matter, they can live their own lives as they see fit, but I wonder if they ever feel slightly confused when they first wake up in the morning.

The difference being of course that the young Ukrainians are defending their own country from invasion by their essentially fascist neighbour, while the young Russians are being asked to go fight, kill and die in a pointless war they don't understand.

The same can be said about tobacco but even more so. Many of us have been putting up with that stench for our entire lives. By comparison I find the smell of cannabis quite pleasant. Also it tends to be quite transitory as people are not sitting there chainsmoking the stuff. If they want to make something illegal, why not start with tobacco, which any reasonable person would have to admit does way more harm than marijuana ever will.

Midnight bar has been getting a bad reputation for ripping people off. Happened to a friend of mine who is in no way naive or inexperienced. Read the reviews of the place on trip advisor and it sounds like more than an isolated experience. Cowboy is full of hordes of tourists walking around videoing everything with their smartphones, young tourist women posing everywhere for selfies, even families dragging the small children with them like it’s Disneyland. As someone who loved the place 35, 25, even 15 years ago, I now find it almost intolerable. I wouldn’t mind if they took a bulldozer to the whole thing at this point.

Struggling tourism industry? The country is crawling with them! Maybe not everywhere but certainly in Bangkok. What does he mean by strict health protocols? Quarantines and mask mandates? That’s what killed tourism in the first place. With all due respect, I know he’s been here for a long time, is a Thai citizen and a successful businessman, but he’s starting to make as little sense as a typical Thai government minister.
