Bangkok Making Preparations to Declare Covid-19 Endemic
charmonman replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
I think a lot of people have misconstrued the word endemic to mean less prevalent or less virulent rather than the more correct definition you’ve given. -
Where is your evidence for this statement? I am double vaccinated with a booster, caught covid-19 and had mild to no symptoms. Girlfriend also caught it, same vaccination history. A few days with moderate symptoms. At least in our case, we did not "suffer worse" when we caught it. Anecdotal yes, but most of the reporting I have seen on this is that the majority of hospitalizations from this thing are there unvaccinated which directly contradicts your statement. Please provide some sort of reference for this statement, or did you just make it up?

It seems obvious that as the number of arrivals at the airport increases the system will become more and more unwieldy. Since they claim they want more tourist arrivals maybe it's time to think of a new system that can cope. I would suggest returning to the system that was in place pre-pandemic, let people just get on with their lives.

Government Urged to Relax Travel Restrictions
charmonman replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Serious studies that have been peer reviewed and published in reputable medical journals indicate that, in vaccinated people who become infected, their viral load is lower and the infection is cleared more rapidly than in unvaccinated people. -
One of the main reasons we can and should start to relax restrictions and not worry so much about it anymore is because for the great majority of the vaccinated it really is at worst like a bad cold whereas for the unvaccinated it can often still be severe and life threatening. What is so hard to understand or accept about this elementary concept?

Most infections are caught on the second test - so what? How many infections are we talking about compared to the number of cases every day transmitted locally? It is a drop in the bucket. Even if every single arrival was infected it is still far less than daily reported cases. Even the day 1 test makes little sense but the day 5 is virtually pointless.

This should serve as a reminder to everyone of what idiots the Pheua Thai are. The idea that covid-19 positive incoming tourists could contribute anything more than a drop in the bucket compared to local transmissions does not stand up to any logical examination. Her brain must move very slowly because it seems to be stuck in 2020 when Thailand had very little local transmission and there was legitimate reason to fear travellers bringing it in. She seems to think that prolonging the misery of millions of Thais who lost their source of income due to the collapse of the tourism industry would be a good idea, and I thought the Pheua Thai were supposed to care about poor people. The day 5 thing (which I am currently doing) is not really sensible, but for the opposite reason to what this silly opposition politician thinks.

Thailand set to delay collection of 300 baht tourist fee
charmonman replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
It’s not the 300 baht, it’s the principle involved. After making us pay for possibly useless insurance, alleged hospital scams, taxi ripoffs, dual pricing at national parks and attractions as well as other assorted indignities, they add this to the pile. Eventually people get fed up with being taken for a ride, however small the amount. Given the difficulties and added expenses of travelling to Thailand these days, it seems like an odd time for them to add this fee.
