I don't remember seeing anything saying it was a max of 20/28K THB per day....just per transfer. I expect it's like the 50K THB limit per transfer to Thai banks other than Bangkok Bank, K-Bank, and SCB....but you can send as many 50K transfers per day as your funding will permit. https://wise.com/help/articles/2932335/guide-to-thb-transfers
-
Yeap, now says a max of 20K THB vs the earlier 28K THB. Says same 20K THB max whether doing a USD-THB, GBP-THB, EUR-THB, AUD-THB, etc., transfer.

See below Wise Help weblink for full details....partial quote also below. https://wise.com/help/articles/2524078/how-long-does-a-transfer-take

Unless it's linked to Thai time since a person is sending THB. When I log onto my Wise acct with a "U.S." IP address and start the process to send THB the exchange rate chart is synced to Thai time. Or maybe it's linked to UTC vs UK DST. But I expect/guess you are right it will be around 0601 Thai time as that would be 0001 UK DST. I say this because when looking at the Wise currency "chart" for the 48 hours it shows the currency flatlined for the weekend at 0600 Thai time so I would assume that time is when Wise considers the weekend starting and ending for THB. If anyone is still up a little after midnight tonight (Thai time) maybe they could check their Wise acct to see if that 28K THB restriction notice still appears. I expect I will be in dreamland by then.

Depends on when you first noticed Wise's typo. I first became aware of it when checking my Wise acct early in the morning (like around sunrise Thailand time) via their mobile app....the error/typo existed at that time. But about 30 minutes later when checking my Wise acct via my computer the typo had been fixed....it now said THB. And when checking the mobile app again it also said THB....their typo fixed.

And now that I'm back from the Saturday visit to the Thai mother-in-law I just wanted to add one thing and that's if Wise does the same thing next weekend to me this would indicate a policy change at Wise to minimize XXX-THB exchanges (i.e., allow small amounts but not large amounts) when FX markets are closed on the weekends/holidays. This would reduce currency exchange risk/loss for Wise. As mentioned earlier the money transfer service OFX does the same thing by not allowing XXX-THB transfers when FX markets are closed on weekends....OFX has done this ever since I've had an acct with them for years. Heck, even the Mastercard and Visa card networks "flatline" their exchange rates over the weekend...well, more like a 72 hour period around/over the weekend. Although card transactions can continue as normal....make them whenever you like 24 hours a day/7 days a week, Visa does "flatline" their exchange rate from Sat-Mon and Mastercard flatlines from Fri-Sun. I expect this is to minimize their currency exchange risks. If Wise does adapt a new policy to minimize XXX-THB transfers/exchanges when FX markets are closed (i.e., weekends), I see this more as an inconvenience for the great majority of folks. But we'll need to wait and see if Wise makes an announcement on the subject and/or if we see Wise repeating this limitation on upcoming weekends. Time will tell.

Yes...same issue. But it says a max of 28K THB (not USD) which amounts to around $750 right now depending on the exchange rate. See snapshot 1 below. I expect it's Wise's way of beating around the bush to say the USD-THB exchange rate is too volatile right now for us to do larger transfers on the weekends when the FX markets are closed. Maybe they are also concerned a little what may happen this weekend base on the court's ruling that Prayut can stay in power for a couple more years. IMO it will remain calm with the exception of a few very small protests here and there....a nothingburger. I have an account with OFX also and I've been with them for around 3 years--and they have never allowed USD-THB transfers of any amount on the weekends/when FX markets are close. The THB FX market is really very small....considered a minor/exotic world currency. See Snapshot 2. I doubt Wise is shifting to a policy of only small or no THB transfers when FX markets are closed (i.e., weekends/holidays) but you never know. Snapshot 1...from my Wise acct. Snapshot 2....from my OFX acct. I've always got this notice over the years.

Hopefully it "did" arrive SSA Wilkes Barre but the USPS just failed to accomplish/missed tracking scans between NYC and Wilkes Barre. From review of USPS Office of Inspector General audits focused on USPS complying with its mail scanning requirements at mail processing centers, post offices, postman delivery, etc., the failure to always scan those mail pieces requiring a scan during their entire trek is still a big problem within USPS. If you don't get a SSA 2nd notice over the coming month or so that should mean your 7162 arrived and it was just a failure of USPS to properly scan trackable mail pieces. Preaching to the choir I know.
-
Delivered to the SSA Wilkes Barre agent....OK it has arrived the SSA's "inbox" so to speak....now the SSA must review/process/scan it into their system....I wonder how quickly they do such. Since sometime in Sep is when the SSA is suppose to mail the 2nd notice for those folks who didn't respond within 60 days of the the 1st notice, with that 1st notice being generated/mailed approx 27 Jun. Now if SSA is sticking to that 60 day cutoff which would have been approx the end of Aug, then any 7162 arriving after the end of Aug or maybe early Sep would not have made it in time to avoid being on the 2nd mailing. This then means the person is going to have to respond again and again hope their 7162 makes it to Wilkes Barre...the 2nd notice has a 45 day suspense versus 60 days like the 1st notice. See SSA weblink/partial quote at bottom. Frustrating....especially when a person mails it say a month or so before the suspense but due to it falling into USPS Missing in Action status/getting blogged down between NYC and Wilkes Barre, etc., its final delivery is greatly delayed or simply does not occur. Yeap...frustrating. All of my test mailings of registered airmail and quite a few posting in this thread shows the mail get to the USPS New York City International Service Center for incoming foreign mail fair promptly but getting from NYC to Wilkes Barre is where registered mail seems to go MIA, gets blogged down. Well, whether mailing by registered airmail (tracked) or regular airmail (untracked) we'll all know pretty soon if we made the 2nd mailing. As posted earlier I used regular airmail to mail my and the wife's 7162 back in mid July....hopefully they made it without falling into the USPS blackhole. Hopefully we will not be on the 2nd notice....but I wouldn't be surprised (just frustrated) at all if we were. Out of curiosity for folks like @ubonjoe and @DJ54 did your 7162s last tracked as "In Transit" somewhere between NYC and Wilkes Barre ever end-up showing delivery to Wilkes Barre? https://secure.ssa.gov/poms.nsf/lnx/0302655010

Translation: figure out a way to get a foreign company to establish outer space launching service in Thailand.

And the transfer did arrive today at 2:02pm to my Bangkok Bank acct. And of course with my luck the rate continued to climb today.....even after 2pm when the Bank of Thailand announced a 0.25% prime interest rate increase which should help make the baht a little stronger. From looking at below Wise "Last 48 Hours" chart as of 8:28pm/28 Sep Thailand time the rate is still easily above 38 and at around 5pm reached 38.365 before starting to tapper off a little.

Did my annual marriage extension of stay at CW the other day....about 35 days before my current extension expires....this is my 3rd marriage extension of stay at CW after doing a retirement extension of stay at CW for around a decade. I had a mid-morning appointment so the wife and I didn't need to show up at O-dark early to stand in the l........o........n........g queue. Did a bank passbook update by withdrawing Bt100 at an ATM outside the Krungsri branch in the building....their passbook update machine was inoperative so I had to go into the branch to get the passbook updated...no queue in the branch....only took a minute. The passbook which was fairly new showed about three and a half months of deposits/withdrawals with at least one deposit/withdrawal each month and with a balance of at least Bt400K during those months. I had got the bank account verification letter the previous day at a branch near my residence....this letter took about an hour to get...the bank verification letter can be up to 7 days old with CW immigration. With my bank passbook now updated and updated copy put in the application package we then checked-in with immigration about 45 minutes before the appointment time with no problem. I wasn't expecting them to accept us so early before our appointment but they did...no problem. The Appointments Check-in/Document Reviewed desk checked my application package (only one package needed....not two like CW use to want a few year back) and had me fill out a few extra easy forms basically acknowledging the penalty of overstay, the wife is vouching for me, etc....even gave me blank copies of these forms for next year's application....first time they had done that over the years. This process took about 10 minutes and we were then directed back to the waiting area to await the next step. About 20 minutes before the appt time we got called-in for the package review/approval with another immigration officer....this process took about 10 minutes. We paid the Bt1,900 application fee at this time with receipt issued. We where then directed to go back to the waiting area again to wait for the next step. About 5 minutes later we were called back in to see the final immigration officer who does the final package blessing and puts the under-consideration stamp in your passport....this process only took a few minutes. I go back in mid Oct to get the final 12 month stamp put in my passport. The immigration officer did "not" say to bring/show my updated bank passbook when coming back to get the final stamp like in previous years but I will indeed do such as I expect it will be asked for. The whole process within immigration, from check-in to leaving with under consideration stamp in passbook took about 30 minutes. Heck, I spent more time driving to CW, approx 1.5 hours in horrendous traffic due to BTS construction in the CW area, than I did in the immigration office. All three immigration officers the wife and I interfaced with were professional and smiling...said very little during their reviews...simply got their job done quick. I'm happy. Below is a partial snapshot of a checklist I've made for my use when doing my annual marriage extension of stay. Each one of the Core docs listed below was in my package and none of immigration officers removed/discard any of them....in fact they stamped and initialed each one. The immigration officers did not ask to see the "original" marriage certificate, wife's Book Book, or Thai ID card, BUT one officer did ask if we had the "original marriage certificate" with us and we said yes. I know it varies a little from immigration office to office as to what docs they require but below docs have been required for my marriage extensions at CW. I realize the TM6 Arrival/Departure card, TM30, and 90 Day Address Receipt are wildcards as to if being needed by each office....but for me at CW they have been requested so I always include them with my application package.

Update: I did my marriage extension for this year today/28 Sep....my 3rd marriage extension at CW. When the IO stamped the under-consideration stamp into my passport she just said return on X-date in mid Oct too get the final 12 month stamp but the IO "did not" say be sure to update/bring the bank passbook also to get that final stamp. Now, I didn't realize until approx 30 seconds after leaving the IO desk that the IO this year did not say to bring the passbook like IO's of previous years who said bring/update the passbook. I didn't go back to ask the IO if I must bring/update my passbook "which I plan to do anyway." When I go back in mid Oct to get the final 12 month stamp I will not offer my passbook unless they ask but I expect they will.

Just did a USD-THB transfer...I got 38.000....rate guaranteed....Wise says it will arrive today at 2:02pm. I can now add a "I got 38 baht to the USD" badge to my boy scout uniform.
-
From looking at the Wise website as of 27 Sep/8:10pm Thailand time I see below notice has now disappeared....surely due to exchange rates stabilizing. When I looked it said USD-THB rates were guaranteed for 9 hours, EUR-THB for 50 hours, but GBP-THB only for 2 hours. I've been looking to do a USD-THB transfer at 38 baht/USD but for the last 12 hours or so the rate has just "slightly" oscillated around 37.90...a few times getting up to 37.975 before falling back to around 37.90. The rate just can't seem to touch, break 38....maybe the Bank of Thailand is intervening to hold down the exchange rate below 38....reaching 38 would surely make big Thai media news. Wednesday/28 Sep is when the Bank of Thailand has one of its every few months Momentary Policy Committee meetings where they set/raise/lower prime interest rates. News reports indicate either a 0.25% or 0.50% rate rise which "should" strengthen the baht a little....OR such a rise will be seen as too little and cause the baht to weaken more. Who knows....I sure don't.
-
For the last two years at CW I was required to provide an updated copy of my passbook showing at least Bt400K when picking up my final marriage extension stamp which gave 12 more months. Each time I was told of this requirement by the immigration officer who provided the initial approval/under consideration stamp. And on the day I went back to get the final approval stamp I did have to provide a copy of my update bank passbook. Basically, I've been required to have at least Bt400K in the bank at least two months before applying for an extension per immigration regulation and also expected to maintain at least Bt400K during the under consideration period/until receiving that "final 12 month extension stamp" approx 30 days after applying.

Yea...the arrival in seconds has "not" occurred for me in numerous months although when first starting the transfer it will say it should arrive in seconds but in the final step of launching/confirming the transfer it changes to hours or next business day. Lately I've always been transferring more that 50K baht to one of my Bangkok Bank accts where it arrives/posts around 2:02pm if I initiated the transfer before 9:30am Thailand time even when funding from my Wise multicurrency acct. If I initiate the transfer after 9:30am it will arrive next day at 2:02pm. Of course different people will experience different arrival speed/time based on what country they are sending from, currency being used to fund the transfer, Thai bank they are sending to, how much they are sending, method of funding/getting the funding to Wise, etc. Preaching to the choir I know.

And just to add some info to above, from looking at Wise's rate guarantee during this time of rate volatility, it appears for those doing a USD-THB transfer using the "ACH bank debit" method (i.e., you authorize Wise to pull the money from your bank acct via the ACH system) then your rate "is" guaranteed once you confirm the payment which I assume to be the last step you do in a Wise transfer. Or said another way the current rate volatility doesn't appear to apply when funding the transfer via ACH bank debit (not to be confused funding via debit card). And it wouldn't apply if funding from your Wise multicurrency/borderless acct since Wise already has the funding. See below Wise weblink/partial quote. https://wise.com/help/articles/2448203/whats-a-guaranteed-rate
-
For a USD-THB transfer if funding from an external U.S. bank acct (i.e., ACH pull of funds from your U.S. bank acct which can take a while to reach Wise) the warning now appears saying they can "not" guarantee rates due to current rate volatility....you will get the rate in effect when your funds arrive. See first snapshot below. But if funding from your Wise multicurrency/borderless acct the warning does not appear...the rate "is" guaranteed. See 2nd snapshot below 1. Pulling funds from a U.S. bank acct which takes a while to arrive Wise. You get the rate warning. 2. Funding from your Wise acct

OP, In 2019 this subject was discussed a length in numerous Aseannow posts....but basically the U.S. Treasury started requiring any money leaving the U.S. "via the Automated Clearing House (ACH) system" to start using International ACH Transaction (IAT) format versus the current Domestic ACH format for funds staying within the U.S. ACH "IAT" format requires additional information not included in the Domestic ACH format....and very, very few U.S. banks/financial companies use/offer the ACH IAT format. So, unless your bank/financial company offers ACH IAT format your ACH transfer directed thru Bangkok Bank NY branch will be rejected by Bangkok Bank. However, U.S. govt payments like social security, military retirement, etc., which still use the ACH Domestic are still allowed as apparently the U.S. Treasury gave a waiver until the U.S. govt agencies can update their payment systems to also offer ACH IAT format. Now you can still do a "Domestic Wire" thru Bangkok Bank NY branch since a Domestic Wire format/info is very similar/meets the info requirements of an ACH IAT transfer. Or you can do an International Wire (a.k.a., SWIFT transfer)...or use a money transfer service like Wise, OFX, etc. Take a look at below Bangkok Bank webpage for more info regarding the ACH "IAT" requirement which went into effect in late 2019 (well, actually not really until early 2020). https://www.bangkokbank.com/en/Personal/Other-Services/Transfers/Transferring-Into-Thailand/Transfer-money-from-US-to-Thailand-via-Bangkok-Bank-NewYork-branch

Yea, their app does say for a farang your passport, visa, and "work permit" are needed to register/re-register. However, as PPGuy pointed out they will accept a passport, visa, and Thai DL. No work permit required if you don't have/not allowed a work permit. Below is a partial quote from a DeeMoney Customer Service email response after I asked in mid August whether a work permit is required for farangs who are on visa/extension like a retirement extension who no long work....not authorized a work permit....basically farangs who are a long term visa/extension but does not have, or possibly allowed, a work permit. Although I'm currently registered with DeeMoney I haven't decided whether I want to re-register under the new requirements/Neo app. I probably will but still thinking about it since I've only used DeeMoney a couple times over the years to transfer small amounts of money out of Thailand....transfers which worked just fine.

An additional complication to my renewal last year is the IO manning the issue of queue tickets would not issue me a ticket without a same day passbook update. Before issuing a queue ticket the IO wanted to see the bank letter and same day passbook update. Now I didn't have that same day update yet at IO opening time because the passbook update machine couldn't read my passbook and the bank branch was not open yet. In over a dozen years of doing extensions that was the first time the queue IO had looked closely at my package before issuing a queue ticket....normally they just look for a bundle of paper. I figured it might be due to too many applicants not having a passbook update when their queue number got called to set down with the IO that processes the application.
-
Ditto for me last year about this same date....that is, the Krungsri Passbook Update Machine in the CW immigration building would not read my passbook. So, a person needs to have the bank teller update the passbook where the machines they have at their counters/desks work just fine to read the passbook....makes a person think the passbook is fine and it's just the passbook update machine having a less capable reader. A few hours later after getting my extension renewed I went back to the branch to talk the issue with my passbook as another passbook update machine in another location couldn't read the passbook either so I figure maybe it's the passbook versus the machine....specifically the magnetic strip on the back of the passbook being corrupted/weak. During my first visit that day I didn't have time to talk the issue at the branch as I needed to get to immigration ASAP. So, I talk the problem with the branch, they spend a few minutes on their computer system and swipe the book thru a machine on their desk several times like maybe they are rewriting the magnet strip and then they say it should work now. This process took about 5 minutes. I then go withdraw Bt100 from the ATM and then try the passbook update machine to see if it can now update the passbook....and the machine now reads/updates my passbook fine. So, it was "not" the update machine but the passbook. But a few months later the problem returned. So, I demanded a "new" passbook, got a new book issued, and the problem hasn't returned after 11 months (knock on wood...my head). I think the core problem was a "weak" magnetic strip on the old passbook which couldn't retain the info long term. The passbook lives in the darkness of my home safe where all my other passbooks live (other passbooks which never presented this problem).

\ And it's the older/traditional "viral vector" type vaccine like AstraZeneca versus the newer mRNA type like Moderna or Pfizer.
