  1. Figured you would say that. You said they make very little money.; I made no reference as to how much such as a lot or a little....just that they do because manufacturers have Parts Divisions to make and sell parts because it's surely profitable for them. I think it's well known when you go to a dealership you are going to pay top dollar for parts...and in many cases you can find the same genuine/OEM part significantly cheaper at a parts store...physical or online. I know I sure have over the years in maintaining my vehicles.
  2. Regarding the part I bolded above, I did some testing this morning and it "does" include idling time.....just anytime your vehicle is on....you started the car." Like maybe using the app to start the A/C X-amount of minutes before you get to the car, setting in your driveway playing with the infotainment system, etc. But it does "not" include charging time if you have not started your vehicle....like car is off and you plug it into a wall charger, DC Fast Charger, etc. But turn the car on while charging and you have started the Driving Time clock although you are not really driving....but just parked/idling.
  3. Source for that claim?
  4. Not at all sure what your post means...especially the ".....he said that one looks better...." part. If he got a receipt it will show whether he got a 90 day or 365 day "next report date." If he did it online but maybe lost the receipt he can logon today and print out the receipt again. Like when I was still on a Non-O type visa (before getting my LTR visa) I used the online reporting system to do my 90 day address reports. Now I had low success with it because 60% of my report were rejected for unknown reasons but the ones that were approved include a receipt telling me it was approved and when my next report is due...and those receipts can be download/viewed long after they have come and gone....like I just viewed my 17 May 2022 report from almost 2 years ago. Yea, maybe your friend was successful in doing an online report for this LTR 365 day address report but it goes against what immigration has said that LTR address reporting has "yet to come....but hopefully soon." Plus no one else has posted, at least in this thread, that they have successfully accomplished their LTR 365 day address report online.
  5. You ever heard of dealerships which vehicle manufacturers sell their vehicle through? Dealerships which are under contract with the manufacturer to follow maintenance/servicing rules set by the manufacturer, buy genuine parts from the manufacturer, etc. Basically the dealership is a franchise of manufacturer. Go to the Toyota USA website....look at their Genuine Parts webpage....notice the last sentence on the page...see the snapshot at bottom. Vehicle manufacturers don't only make money from building/selling a vehicle but also maintenance/parts of the vehicle over it's lifetime, financing the vehicle, insurance, and other lifecycle requirements. https://www.toyota.com/owners/genuine-parts/
  6. Free registering requires collection of your email address to read "free" articles...to read articles that are not free it then requires payment/subscription. Paywall. Not going to give out my email address just to read an article from a site that someone references in a post....and a site I have no intention/desire to register with.
  7. Just for comparison, my Atto total kms from new: 6755 Consumption: 12.6KwH/100Km. Regarding Average Speed I reset it periodically on certain long trips so it no longer reflects the average speed since birth. But before I reset it, it was reading in the low 30's. I find the Average Speed indication pretty much useless in determining fuel efficiency since that average includes every moment you are actually moving on the road "and also idling time I think"....even the idling in your carport trying to figure out the infotainment settings, etc.
  8. Can't review due to pay wall block. But below article is probably talking the same thing....but instead of $125B USD it reports a far lower amount of $28B over a 13 year period...that's a little over $2B per year which considering the size of China population isn't really that much (IMO). https://chinadialogue.net/en/business/life-after-subsidies-for-chinas-evs/#:~:text=More than 200 billion yuan, support and subsidies have declined. 9. Yeap.....agree...there is no doubt a lot of funding flowing to certain people/media companies to fill media with anti-EV news, articles, video's, etc. No doubt fossil fuel companies, iCEV manufacturers (like Toyota), etc., are providing some funding to those who will paint EV's in a bad light. Usually nothing illegal about it....but it's extremely slanted information. It's like the Youtube Channel named "ChargeDrive" that produces anti-EV videos...and every week or so they will upload the same video again with a slightly different title along with the video being a few seconds longer or shorter to make it appear like it's a new video, late braking news, etc........worm on the hook, click bait, type approach. And there are also those individuals who simply hate EVs and for now have decided to make it their life calling to produce Youtube videos that only represent their point of view which generates Youtube income for them. Or they really don't hate EVs but know a large portion of the population do not like EVs....ICEV till Death so to speak....and such Youtubers then focus all their videos towards a select portion of the population. Nothing illegal about it but it's usually slanted, incomplete, taken out of context info. ChargeDrive. Partial snapshot from their Youtube Channel https://www.youtube.com/@Charge-Drive/videos
  10. I was talking "hydrogen fueling stations"; not EV chargers.

  12. That's Surface Charge (i.e., elevated voltage) that has little capacity...burns off fast. Typical for all batteries after they have been fully charged. My Atto does the same thing which has a NEDC rating of 480Km. But after fully charging it routinely displays 493-495Km....and one time 503Km....but just like your Seal the first 5 to 10Km burns off in way less than that....then the charge remaining/Km range become more realistic.
  13. Yea...this tester was doing 120KmH in Sport Mode....that's going to eat battery power faster than cruising along at 90Kmh in ECO or Normal mode,
  14. Very little fueling infrastructure. In the U.S. California has a few dozen around the LA and SF areas...Canada has a couple. Europe has approx 200. Thailand has one...and it just came online Jan 2024 in the Chonburi area....and it's more for limted testing purposes....see this 29 Jan 2024 The Nation article. Lot's of challenges ahead for hydrogen cars to reach the masses...with extremely little fueling infrastructure being a BIG obstacle. Will hydrogen cars come with a home fuel dispenser similar to a wallcharger for EVs?
  15. According to below PEA webpage talking Autocharge (google translate is your friend at this page) here's the list of EVs that work with PEA Autocharge. How up to date the webpage/list is I couldn't say as I expect other EVs which have been coming to the Thai market might work with Autocharge also. But if your EV is Autocharge capable the PEA app will ask you during a charging session if you want to setup/verify your EV for Autocharge which only requires you to enter your license plate number when asked to verify....the app will then spend a few seconds "verifying" and then if all goes well your EV is now registered with the PEA charging system/app to use Autocharge starting your next charging session. https://peavoltaev.pea.co.th/cars-autocharge/ AUDI E-TRON GT quattro E-TRON 55 quattro BMW i3 iX iX3 BYD ATTO 3 Dolphin E6 2021 M3 Seal FORD Mustang March-E HYUNDAI KONA IONIQ JAGUAR I-PACE KIA EV6 SOUL-EV LEXUS UX 300e RZ 450e MERCEDES-BENZ EQS EQS 450+ MINI Cooper SE Electric PORSCHE TAYCAN Taycan x Naraya Taycan 4s MG EP EP Plus ES MAXUS 9 MG4 Electric ZS VOLVO C40 Recharge CX40 Recharge XC40 Pure Electric TESLA MODEL S MODEL 3 MODEL X MODEL Y
  16. 28 Jan 2024: Gave PEA Autocharge another test today with my BYD Atto 3...did the test at the same 50KW PEA charger I've been testing on. But this time instead of "guesstimating"" how long it took to start charging "from CCS2 cable being plugged into the EV and charging beginning on my EV display" I used my phone stopwatch watch function. I pulled up to the charger, got my stopwatch ready to go, and as soon as I plugged in I started the stopwatch. Got into my car to watch the car display (instead of watching the charger display like I had done before). The car display immediately showed the EV was plugged in...but charging had not begun yet. Then at approx 30 seconds (according to the stopwatch ticking along) the display changed to show communication going on between the car and charger....and then just a hair under 50 seconds charging began....I pressed the stopwatch Stop icon and then took a screenshot. See screenshot at bottom. As this was only a test to more accurately time how long it takes for PEA Autocharge to start pumping juice into the battery I only charged for a few minutes. I never used the PEA app to Start or Stop charging....I just pressed Stop on the Charger although I could have used the app to stop the charging as I did in earlier tests. Unplugged the charging cable and hung it back on the charger. I then fired-up the app only to check how much PEA had charged my PEA app wallet...the amount charged was correct. Yeap, PEA Autocharge is so, so easy if your EV supports Autocharge. Snapshot: time it took for PEA Autocharge to begin charging my EV...a hair under 50 seconds.
  17. Thanks, Misty. I like how these various announcements/new media report regarding the online day reporting system---making it sound like it was just launched when in fact it's been in operation for a couple of years....the new system (now around 2 years old) replaced the "old online" system. Basically immigration trying to rewrap/re-gift a present from a couple of years ago. I don't know why they didn't package their announcement as online system "Ver 2.0" (as in an upgrade) versus trying to make it sound like it's a brand new online system...recently born. Unless something has changed since I lasted visit BOI Chamchuri Sq Immigration in late Dec 2023 to do my LTR 1 year address report (I live in Bangkok and the immigration office is only about 30 minutes drive time from me) two immigration officers told me a LTR/SMART visa 1 year address report still can not be done online; only certain other BOI-managed visas which require 90 day address reporting can be done online. These two immigration officers basically reconfirmed what three other immigration officers told me several months earlier which I visited BOI on another issue. But as of 27 Jan 2024 nothing has changed "wording-wise" on the online reporting system where it talks BOI-managed visas....and as I already mentioned numerous Chamchuri Sq immigration officers told me that wording only deals with BOI-managed visa's which required 90 day address reporting; it can not currently be used for 1 year LTR/SMART visa report. See snapshot at bottom. However, back on 11 Jan 2024 in this thread @TravelerEastWest said he had a friend who did his LTR 1 year address report online but when several of us questioned is the friend sure he got a receipt to report again in 1 year or maybe it was just 90 days TravelerEastWest said he would need to follow-up with his friend to double check. Unless I missed it, I haven't seen a response yet. I do hope the system is updated soon to allow online 1 year address reporting for the LTR and SMART visas. I'm sure BOI has been asked many times by LTR holders as why 1 year address reporting is not supported online. And who knows, maybe once LTR/SMART visa 1 year address reporting can be done online the current wording may not change...or maybe it will change....who knows. Sure would like to see a couple LTR holders chime in with confirmation they have successfully accomplished 1 year address reporting online....and their address report receipt shows next report is due 1 year down the road. Snapshot from 90 Day Online Reporting System as of 27 Jan 2024 (same wording that's been there for a long time).
  18. Up to you....whatever size is needed to fit the application and passport inside. I've always used the size where you need to fold the application in half which still leaves plenty of room for the passport.
  19. Yeap...a heat pump is standard equipment on Dolphin, Atto, and Seal.
  20. 25 Jan 2024 Update: Above where I talk some double charges to my Bangkok Bank debit card while registering for the Elexa by Egat app and when doing my first charging session with Altervim in both cases in exactly "17 calendar days" the double charge was corrected by funds being credited back to my bank account. In both cases when I contacted Elexa and Altervim Customer Services the same day of the double charges each provided me proof/docs that a credit had been provided immediately (in Elexa's case) and in Altervim's case they confirmed the first attempted charge had failed which I also noticed in the app. However, in each case Bangkok Bank had debited my account twice for each of transactions...just the nature of how the debit/credit system works here in Thailand when paying for something online and an electronic glitch/payment failure occurs. That debit card payment failure may still deduct funds from your bank account and correction/funds credited back will take around 17 days. Maybe if using a "credit" card vs a debit card the double charge correction happens faster....I don't know as I don't have a Thai credit card and have been using my Bangkok Bank debit card as the payment option on the charging apps. So, while registering for a charging app or paying for a charging session if the registration/payment don't go exactly as planned and you end up with a double charge using your Bangkok Bank debit card that double charge should correct itself after approx 17 calendar days....or at least with the Bangkok Bank debit card it has worked that way twice for me as I dipped my toes into the EV charging world.
  21. 25 Jan 2024 Update: Today I got the chance to test "Autocharger" again on a PEA DC Fast Charger again....and it was done at the exact same charger I used before/as talked in above post. In above you'll see where all I had to do to Start and Stop a charge was to push the Start Charging icon on the charger to start charging and then push the Stop Charging icon on the charger to stop charging. Absolutely no use of the PEA charging app required. The key thing I want to point out is I still had to push the Start and Stop Charging icons on the charger. In my earlier tests I had to push the Start Charging icon on the charger display....although I waited for around a minute hoping it would start "automatically" without needing to push the Start Charging icon but the charging simply would not start without pushing the Start Charging icon. BUT TODAY, after I plugged-in my BYD Atto 3 I had decided I would wait longer than one minute to see if charging would start automatically without needed to press Start Charging. Well, I didn't even need to wait one minute because after about 30 seconds the charging did start automatically...I didn't need to push any icon on the charger or app....charging simply started. Summary: the charging started automatically. I only planned to charge for a few minutes as the purpose of this test was to see if charging would start automatically....plug-and-charge so to say....and it did. After a few minutes I pressed the Stop Charging icon...the charging stopped and payment deducted from my PEA Wallet. So, if your EV is Autocharge capable and you have Autocharge setup/turned on in the PEA app Profile settings, you could leave your phone at home, leave it turn off or on, let someone else take your EV to a PEA charger, etc., plug the EV into a PEA charger and it would start charging automatically. The only involvement you will have in the complete charging process is plugging the cable into you EV, pushing the Stop Charging icon on the charger if you don't want to charge to 100%, and then unhooking the cable from your EV. Super easy. And during this test today a GWM Good Cat pulled up to the 2nd Charger as I pulled into the 1st Charger. The guy actually got out of his Ora and plugged in around 15 seconds before me...and then he started the PEA app process, Scan the QR code, etc....etc...etc. While I just plugged in my Atto and the charging automatically started in about 30 seconds while the guy was still going thru the app button pushing process. I got back into my Atto and watched as he took about another minute to get his charging session going....and several times he glanced over at the display on my charging seeing the charging was underway and he was probably thinking how in the heck did that guy get his charging going so fast1!!!! Yeap, the PEA Autocharge process is great if your EV support Autocharge.
  22. Question for those of you who have registered with/are using the BYD App. Today I finally got registered on the app after trying to for several months (long story...but it was all caused by dealership paperwork errors which Rever Automotive (i.e., HQ BYD for Thailand) expedited a fix after I got them involved today). Anyway, just a few minutes ago I was able to get registered which included setting up a login password. However after logging into the app I needed to setup a "Operation Password" (a six digit number/PIN not to be confused with login password) but I never received a Operation Password; nor can I change it in the settings as changing the Operation Password requires you to first enter the "old" operation password. What "old" operation password....I never setup an initial/old one nor did I get one from BYD. How did you guys get/setup the Operation Password (PIN) not to be confused with the login password? I have already tried using the two factor authorization 6 digit number (verification code) BYD emailed me when setting up my initial logon....I have tried six zero's....I only have two more attempts for today. Thanks. EDIT: Never mind. I figured it out. This info may come in handy for others when registering with the BYD app. In the Change Operation Password setup menu where you need to enter the "old" Operation Password before you can make/enter a "new" Operation Password there is a very small note you can click for "Forgot Your Password?" Well, since I never received an Operation Password (a.k.a., 6 digit PIN) nor was able to setup up a new one without having the "old" Operation Password I clicked the Forgot Your Password text (what the heck, give it a try) and BYD sent me another two factor authorization code which then allowed me to setup a Operations Password "without, repeat, without" having to enter the "old" Operations Password. Finally, the BYD App is fully operational (I think).
  23. Yea...I just looked at the Bangkok Post article released this afternoon/22 Jan regarding the 90 day reporting system....it kinda makes it sound like it's a "major update" but when I logged on it the same-old, same-old system that's been in-place for the last couple of years. Of course the Bangkok Post writer(s) probably didn't really have a clue what they were writing about.....just filling their daily writing quota to get paid. Yeap, same system as before....immigration just trying to advertise its use.
  24. I bought my Atto (a Seal's cousin)in late Oct 2023 and in late Dec 2023 I had the 3 month/5000Km (whichever comes first) checkup. It was at the 4,600Km point and I wanted to get the checkup before the Christmas/New Years holiday period set in when I would have at least one long trip planned. Anyway, up until that point I never experienced any brake issues/noise. The day following the checkup at the BYD dealership I did a trip of approx 225Km round trip. About 40Km into the trip the wife and I could hear the "front" brakes squealing somewhat when lightly pressing the brake pedal. A squeal exactly like you hear when brake pads have reached their wear limit and there is a little metal tab on brake pad that then starts making contact with the brake rotter to make a squeal. Squeal would only occur when pressing the brake pedal and not when simply letting my foot off the fuel pedal. After driving/braking for another few kilometers the squeal continued whenever pressing the brakes..."only when pressing the brakes." I thought to myself that maybe this is being caused by something the dealership mechanics did during the checkout the previous day. However, I was able to watch the entire checkup through big picture windows in the waiting lounge......just like watching fish in a tank. The mechanics never did any work on the brakes other than visually inspect without removing the wheel....pretty much just like you or I would do a quick visual inspection. I even briefly stopped the car to take a look and touch the back and front brake pads & rotors...no rust on rotors...not overheating/hot....just no visible issues. Got back in the car and started driving again...squeal was still there only when pressing the brake. So I decided to abort the trip and go back home....did a U-turn and headed back to home. But now the brake squeal sound was gone....it had vanished....I could press the brakes lightly, medium, heavily, etc., and no brake squeal. Drove at least another 5Km's while occasionally pressing the brakes--no squeal...it was gone. So, I decided not to go back home and instead continue the trip...so, did another U-turn and completed the 225km round trip over the next several hours. Squeal never came back. When getting home I once again visually inspected the back & front brake pads/rotors....no issues, they looked exactly as they did when I first noticed the squeal a couple hundred kilometers earlier. It's now almost a month later with an additional 2,000km's driven getting up to around 6,600Km's...still no squeal. Don't know what caused the brake squeal that day. And I didn't go back to the dealership later on to ask their opinion. "Maybe" some kind of road dust/dirt/etc., got onto the front brake pads/rotors and doing that first U-turn to head back home cleared it....because the squeal just disappeared after doing that U-turn. But one thing for sure it was not caused by rust on the brake rotors and my visual inspection before and after the squealing showed them to be rust free...just clean, smooth, and shiny. My googling about EV brake squeal reveals many models (even Tesla's) can temporarily experience brake squeal even when the EV is only a few month's old/very low mileage. When not caused by light rust on the rotors it just some weird occurrence that can occur when "regen braking and physical braking" (and maybe the right weather conditions) form just the right condition to cause the squeal.
