  1. I suppose that what you feed your dog is down to why you have the dog. People who feed their dogs rice and scraps etc like me and RC have dogs that are farm dogs and are not allowed in the house or near where people are eating. People who buy pedigree dogs and good quality dog food generally live in urban areas and treat their dogs as pets.

A year ago we used to have 6 dogs and 9 puppies but the attrition rate in the country is quite high. We gave the 3 bitches away, one puppy just died for no particular reason, the puppies fought each other and the stronger ones killed the weaker ones and we now only have 1 puppy left and 2 dogs got run over.

The dogs are not pets and are useful around the place as alarm dogs and lately they have been leaving little presents for me like the odd dead rat or frog.

If we start to run low on dogs we can always go to the temple and get more free one and the temple are glad to give them away so they don't have to feed them.

  2. From this website:

    http://www.delta.com/planning_reservations...ation/index.jsp

ADMISSION AND TRANSIT RESTRICTIONS: The government of

    Thailand:

    1. may refuse admission to visitors:

    - of hippy appearance with long, untidy and dirty

    looking hair,

    - dressed in an offensive manner, e.g. only singlet or

waistcoat, shorts, silk pants, slippers or rubber/wooden

    sandals, unless part of a national costume;

Singapore has been doing the same thing for many years now and after all why should Thailand not fix its own entry requirements.

  3. 7-11 have not been selling beer or spirits after midnight for around 2 years, Nor do they sell it between 2pm and 5pm.

A New Law was brought in...you can't buy it from Supermarkets between 2pm and 5pm either...unless you buy it by the case... the idea behind this is to deter yougsters fom drinking in the afternoon or late into the night...however. they can club togetther and buy 12 bottles, no problem, get even more pissed.

    Where is the logic ????

It doesn't deter the serious drinker (who plans ahead and stocks booze instead of bottled water in his fallout shelter and minifridge), which apparently is the mindset of a lot of folks on this forum :o .... but it does deter the casual drinker -myself included on more than a few occasions-.

    :D

Well I am not a serious drinker either but I usually have 3 or 4 bottles of beer in my fridge at home and I may drink one every couple of weeks or so. This morning as my stocks of Sng Som, ice etc are getting low I will drive to the village and stock up again.

It is called forward planning. You buy some in case you want a drink after midnight and up here in the boonies most places including the shops are closed by midnight. Even up here 7/11 won't sell alcohol except between 11 am and 2 pm and 5pm till 11pm.

During the day I just go to my favourite shop and buy what I need unless it is not sold there or I can go across to the local booze shop and buy it there.

  4. I suspect that by not obtaining the re-entry permit you have ended up in the same position that I did 3 years ago.

If you are going the Thai wife support visa you will have to start again as I did. One thing in your favour (or not) is that you do not need the 400,000 in the bank but you do have to prove your 40,000 monthly income.

While I was renewing my visa in August at Suan Phlu in Bangkok I saw that my file was very thick so I think that Immigration do keep a lot of previous documentation.

I am not sure whether you will have to start again in Bangkok or Aranya Phrathet and you may be better off with a new certificate from your embassy.

Since I screwed up over the re-entry permit, when my extenion is completed I go and apply for a multi entry on the same day even if I have no plans to leave the country.

Experience is costly and a lesson well learned.

Best of luck and I am sure that more experienced members will correct me if I went wrong.

    TBWG :o

I only know how to do it because sometimes my fat fingers hit more than one key and other times I write faster than I think and post and then read it, and think Oh bolleaux and have to edit for bad spelling.

One day my pc will know what I want to say and spell it correctly.

I learned how to print screen from somebody on TV and that is easy.

Just get what you want on the screen then press Alt and PrtScr together, then open a new word file and paste to it.

  6. I have seen a "Land Rover" probably Range Rover dealers on the Bang Na - Trat lower road going towards the new airport on the frontage road around km 6 but I have no idea what they are like as I have a Ford Ranger pickup.

The only reason I know it is there is because I pass it on the way to my wifes family house.

  7. We have 3 dogs but they only have a degree from the temple where we got them. They are the last survivors of 3 generations of dogs that we have had over the last 4 years and the generally just eat rice and any leftovers. They are all outside dogs and are not allowed in the house nor where we are eating. I would say that they are guard dogs but they seem to sleep all day to save their energy to fight with the dogs next door after dark.

  8. Could the tendency to litter here in Thailand be based partly on a perception that it's somebody else's job to clean up? Like in a McDonald's here, as opposed to one in the US. In the US, you bus your own table and dispose of your trash in the bin. Here, it's somebody's job to do that.

I have seen crews of people cleaning up rubbish and maintaining boulevards in cities. In my moo baan there are people hird to sweep the gutters and pick up rubbish. The neighbors gave my husband looks that indicated he was crazy to pick up the rubbish in the street from the occasion when a dog got into our garbage through a door left ajar. We don't litter here, nor did we in the US.

Can somebody provide me with info on what is recyclable here and what isn't? I would love to set up some recycling. I assume aluminum, glass, and plastic are all recyclable?

I think a lot depends on where you live. Up here out in the sticks we save all the glass and plastic bottles but there is not a lot of paper or cardboard. We recycle the plastic bags as containers for our sons filled Pampers. Every so often a guy comes along with a pickup truck and buys all the waste stuff.

In Bangkok the trashmen used to sort out all he stuff that went out though I did separate the recyclable for them. There are a lot of people using the 3 wheel motorcycles that sort through the trash lying around and take it to a depot who pay them for it.

There is always a trash bag in the car and I have taught my 2 year old to use it plus the bins in the house. I have my wifes family up for the holidays and they have NEVER been taught to clear up. Mam will follow them and clear up, BUT NOT IN MY HOUSE, especially if I catch them.

  9. I bought mine down in the village but I live in central Thailand near Khampaeng Phet. The should be a Yamaha dealer or a motorcycle dealer that sells 3 or 4 manufacturers bikes near you.

My wife liked the Honda blade which is also auto and looks much nicer but is around 54,000 baht and only does about 45 km/ltr.

We have a limpet problem with the scooter because as soon as our son sees me with a shirt on or his mum near the scooter he is thre standing on the platform and holding the mirror stalks in a death grip. We have to pry him off with a crowbar and then we get floods of tears so it is easier to bring him along to wherever we are going.

What I need now is a black leather jacket, jeans, a stormtroopers helmet and and invitation to join the local chapter of He**s Angels (kiddie bike division).

  10. My day has changed a lot form before (post 27) as it the school holidays and I now have my wife's Mum and Dad, her 15 year old neice, and 3 nephews aged 11, 5 and 4.

It is good for my son as he has his cousins to play with but they are on the go from about 7 am until 8:30 or 9 at night. All of them except the neice are noisy little buggers and my toy repairing skills have been put to a lot of use in the last couple of days.

We are now true village people as well because I bought my wife (and me) a Yamaha Mio Fino motor scooter. 110 cc, electric starter and automatic gearbox and it runs very nicely. We have a problem keeping our son off it because as soon as one of us goes to it he is on the platform hanging onto the mirror stalks and it like trying to undo an octopus to get him off. he has his own crash helmet that he wears and my wife has one which matches the scooter but I will have to wait until my next trip to the big city to find one my size.

10:00 pm and peace reigns over the house apart from the upsatirs tv which is on all night as a lot of them are sleeping on the floor up there.

  11. buy one in thailand, if you use a vodaphone one in thailand you will be charged roaming rates VERY DEAR

When you get here just buy one i use hutch and it works fine

    good luck

Your Hutch mobile is a CDMA phone which operates on a completely different system to the GSM system that DTac, AIS and True use.

You are correct about the rates if the OP is using his UK Sim card.

However depending on how long the OP will be staying in Thailand and where he will stay makes little difference to tthe data card as they should work on any network.

It is the Sim card which is specific to the network.

pete66 you can buy prepaid Sim cards for all the networks and use GPRS on any of them and it is not too expensive for a short term, but for a long term stay you should think about a postpaid Sim card.

  12. I have known my wife for over 13 years and we have been married for 6 1/2 and we have a 2 1/2 year old son. He has a British passport and birth certificate as I have but my wife has never wanted a British passport.

She has been with me to the UK, Denmark, Germany, Portugal, Sri Lanka and Vietnam. Before we met she had also been to Hong Kong and Singapore.

The only time she has been refused a visa was in the early days to the UK before my divorce and that was a long time ago.

Her roots are here, as are the land, house etc plus her family and me as well I suppose as I have only my son from the first marriage and a few friends so I have no reason to return.

When I asked her she said that she didn't want one and didn't want to live in the UK for amount of time it would take especially as I have not worked or lived in the UK since before I met her.

The cost of doing so now would be horrendous as I would have to rent somewhere, find some work (at 62 not so easy), buy a car and all the rest that goes along with it.

It is much cheaper for her to get a visa and to be honest, I don't like the UK any more.

  13. I need to buy a new Honda or Susuki motor bike, any recomendations regarding the dealers?

I have a very old Kawasaki Boss I bought in Pattaya and rode down here, its about 9 years old never had a bit of trouble with it after 69,000km..

Point I'm making is Kawasaki in Phuket town not far feom the Prison have given me excellent service, and I only pay for any Oils or parts, there is never a labor charge..

I know you ask about Suzuki or Honda, I believe Honda give the same service, just ask where you buy the bike..

Thank you for the reply, this post is one month old and you are the first to reply, it would seem that motor bikes have a low priority in Thailand . Strange as there are so many! Thank you again :o

I suppose it all depends on what you need a motorbike for.

I just bought my wife (and me) a Yamaha Mio Fino motor scooter for knocking about and going 6 km to the village etc.

42,000 baht, electric starter, auto gearbox and it looks a bit like the Vespa.

I filled the tank on Wednesday (3.5 litres-90 baht) and we have done 38km and the fuel guage is just off the full mark.

I think it is great and mt wife has a problem keeping me off it. We still take the pickup to the village if there is a lot to carry bu it will use more than a litre and cost about 40 baht a trip.

When our son goes to school soon we wil use that twice a day unless it rains and save a fair amount every week.

  14. Ok so now it seems i now need to make sure 800k is in one of my accounts for 3 months before applying for my next visa extension - im on 3rd retiremtn one now no problems next not due for 6 months - so before i used to transfer around 1 million just before renewal and draw on it over year to live on sometimes putting excess into a Thai mutual fund account sometimes in a Thai fixed interest term bond ( about 4-5%) - no problems at all just sold mutual fund when i needed dosh or waited for interest bond to mature

?? so whats my options now ???

I like my money to work or try to work either put into mutuals or bigger fixed interest than pathetic interest you get on normal savings account

The time on your posts is around midnight and if you are waiting for Sunbelt to reply it is only 09:17 and they probably have only just got into work.

They have to sleep at night too.

  16. Yes, it's a delicate balancing act...

Made more so by the fact i am married and that I slept with my friend a few nights ago.

Made worse by the fact she's a 'decent' girl...and has love in her eyes every time she talks to me.

I need the right words here or I'm in trouble :D

    KhunLing

I suspect from the reply above that you are already up to your ass in alligators and looking for an easy way out but I don't think there is one.

    Sorry :o

  17. Hi All

I posted yesterday about a friend who'd been missing since Saturday.

I received many PMs with suggestions on what to do as well as some help with immigration which the British Embassy told me would take 'a considerable amount of time' !

He had been rushed to hospital on Saturday morning at 3am and was pretty much out of it for 3 days. He had severe abdominal pains, diarrhea, fever. He lost 10kg in 3 days !

They aren't sure what's wrong - he's feeling much better now and is waiting for the results of blood tests.

    THANK YOU ALL !!

    Cheers

    Pedro

    Hi Pedro

I am glad for your, friend and his family and you also.

  18. Thanks for the link, I'd looked at that and since the shipping time is 4 to 6 weeks, thought I'd see if there were more options, hence my post.

    Regards

I have the same problem so I thought, download, go for it.

After 30 minutes it was still downloading so I looked and it is in the order of 670 Mb and I am running on GPRS.

Does anyone have a copy that I can have for free, or rent or borrow?

  19. If you use pension income the bank passbook will probably only be glanced at

    Lopburi,

In your experience using your pension income as primary, does Immigration need a letter from your bank to go along with the passbook glance...........or will just the passbook with a reasonable balance suffice?

It was for me last month plus they want copies of each page which I think goes into your file at Immigration.

I made up checklist for me prior to the new or existing rules which I will put as an attachment if anybody wants to use it.

Perhaps it could be updated by someone going this year.

I was OK as I did mine about 10 days before the coup and the rulechanges.

  20. I used to subscibe to a small book, published monthly, for I think 500B a year, which listed all flights in and out of Thailand. My subsciption has expired and Khun Wife has sold all my old copies for waste paper, so I cannot find the address to renew. Does any member here know of this guide and, could they give me an address to re-subscibe to.

Living up country, this was my only way of keeping in touch with flights in and out of the Kingdom.

A postal adress, e-mail address or phone number would be enough. Each guide had a page to fill in to subscibe. If only I could find a old guide.....

Aha says he pulling out his trusty 1 year old Thailand Airline guide

    Just look up

    www.thailandairlinetimetable.com

and all will be revealed and it worked for me 5 minutes ago cos I checked.
