In Thailand since 1932, the biggest danger to democracy has always been the military, and until a few generals are shot for treason they always will be.
You can say and think what you like, but both Thaksin and Yingluck were both freely and democratically elected, as opposed to the large number of military coups.

Driving passengers in your vehicle is dangerous, and it degrades the nation. It is a very important job, and denying that right to a local could utterly destroy the economy. Glad the "joint task force" is focusing on such important work. They will single handedly help to increase the GDP and employment.
Where I live in rural Thailand there ARE no taxis, motorcycle taxis, baht buses or ANY form of public transport.

This is the best news I've heard in 2 years since Russia invaded Ukraine illegally, killing thousands of civilians and shooting POW's in the head...
Go in and slaughter Russia .... go after Putin and destroy his palaces. Destroy everything Russian. And if Putin or Lavrov or the other puppet try to use the Nuclear tactic, tell them you'll blow Moscow of the face of the earth with a Nuclear and an Atom at the same time. Stop cowering to this murderer.
Teach Russia a lesson they'll never ever forget .... put them back 100 yrs, no heating,, no fuel, no electricity.
Let's get it on !!

I like the idea, but not for the entire Russian people. For Putin and his war cabinet, yes, for the military, destroy the bases and the equipment, but try to keep the casualties low if at all possible, yes. For the general population, no, try to keep casualties to a minimum if possible.

I have known my Thai wife for 30 years and been married to her for 24 of them.
She is no longer the slim long dark haired beauty that she once was.
So what.
We have a 19 year old son and a reasonable life together, and as I get older she is taking care of me more as my health is slowly deteriorating. If I want to know what she looked like back then, I can turn my head and look at a small photo of her, or go to the fridge and look at a bigger picture.
I am more than happy with my wife and would never consider replacing her with some younger and better looking woman.
Why would I even need to think about it?
As usual, just lately there is always some stupid person who posts (anonymously) a laughing or a confused emoji.
Perhaps it is time to bring back the names associated with emojis. I doubt if it will stop the posters, but it will identify them for other people to see and know who they are.

47 minutes ago, it is what it is said:
logic would suggest; decide what number is acceptable, control numbers with sterilisation and transfer excess animals to another suitable location. surely, it can;t be too difficult.
Unless you live in the "suitable location" where the excess monkeys will be moved to. Why should your location be chosen to dump their problem on?

Prudent people keep money stashed away in other countries and Switzerland, oh no, the stash spot of stolen wealth of Nazis.
The rule of the Nazis ended in 1945, some 79 years ago. Those people who were Nazis back then would be close to 100 years old now.
Welcome to the 21st century. There may still be a few neo Nazis around, not as many as Putin would have you believe, but why would they stash their money in Switzerland?

Well, nothing ever happens in a vacuum. The reaction was intense, but it was at least to some extent prompted by ex-pats who simply do not behave themselves. Most of us treat our hosts, and our host nation with some respect. Granted I do not show much respect to the nation's leaders here on this forum, but that is a different story. They do not deserve respect. Most Thais I know feel the same way. I do show a lot of respect and kindness towards most Thais. And that is what counts. They are only asking to be treated with decency and respect. I do not think that is an unreasonable request. And I do not think most Thais are xenophobic. I have felt that before, elsewhere. Believe me, it does not feel like this.
I find most Thais to be kind, and hospitable, but they do not have much tolerance for foreigners who behave like total idiots, and there is nothing wrong with that. I don't either. Urs David Fehr was a complete butthead, and proved that over and over again. It is likely even his mother was thankful when he left Switzerland, and will be disappointed if he returns. Now, he may be heading back. I am hoping this publicity follows him around, wherever he goes, like white on rice. He richly deserves that.
In response to the first part of your post.
I live in rural Kamphaeng Phet. I am 79 and walk with a stick.
Normally at my local pharmacy where I went this week the lady behind the counter normally helps me down the 2 steps. This week, a lady customer opened the door for me, and helped me down the steps. This morning at the bank where I got some money from the ATM, I had a short conversation with the couple who sell mangoes from their pickup, then a lady who works at the local daily market stopped and we had a conversation in English. She had noticed that I hadn't been around lately and asked if I was OK.
Most of the local Thais in the village are helpful and friendly, certainly to me, and probably to the few other farangs around.
Then again, this is a small rural village and not a place like Phuket, Pattaya or Bangkok which are IMO, overcrowded with tourists and farang residents, pricing the local Thais out.
We have a more relaxed and slower pace of life up here. Sure there are always the odd silly locals and farangs but people know them and avoid them wherever possible. The smiles that the local Thais give are genuine and not fake.
As for the second part of your post, I cannot give a response, simply because I am fortunate enough not to live, or even visit the areas.

Partly true but some of the cities have been there longer than the monkeys.
The latest thought is to capture, sterilise the monkeys and release them. Eventually they will die out. However, as the average life span of a macaque monkey is about 25 years, all that will happen is nothing, and it will take about another 25 years to get resolved.
It is known as kicking the can down the road, so that it becomes somebody else's problem.

Ah, a former leader of, and now an MP for the Democrats!
A party that connived with the deposing of Thaksin, after he soundly beat them in an election, allowed the military to put them in government after they lost another election, and when it looked like Yingluck was going to beat them for a second time, connived to stop the election and allowed the military to take power instead.
I think perhaps he has a tenuous claim to the moral high ground!
IMHO, he has no claim to any morals, let alone the high ground.

Many of the "real" generation of protesters are students and young people and a lot of them are already in jail for protesting and "allegedly" breaking LM112 laws. THEY are the future of Thailand, and they WILL win in the end.

Undermine? If you’re a someone with clout in this country—and unless there’s a price on your head—the rules rarely apply.

They ALL should go down anyway.

If the Palestinians do that, all well and good.
However at the same time the Israeli's must also hand over Netanyahu, his entire war-mongering cabinet and all the generals and field commanders to the ICJ, after reminding them that the excuse "I was just following orders" is NOT a valid excuse as was clearly pointed out at the Nuremberg war trials after WW2, when the Germans were accused and quite rightly sentenced for the genocide of many of the Jewish people, along with the genocide of homosexuals, transvestites and gypsies from all over Europe.
The Israeli's must also give up all the land and settlements that they have built on stolen Palestinian land since 1973.
It seems as though in the responses, 1 poster gave me a thumbs up, 1 poster agrees with me and one poster is confused.
Well Mr Confused, why not respond in writing and tell me why you are confused, and I will see if I can explain it to you in a different way. Perhaps I didn't make my response clear enough.

Wise always send me an email telling me when my pensions arrive in my Wise borderless account. I transfer it the same day to my Thai Bangkok Bank account and keep track of it. Wise also send me an email telling me that my money is in the Bangkok and the time it will be available and they are rarely more than a couple of minutes off. They even tell me if it will be late due to a Thai bank holiday.

A sign of age! None of the under 30s I worked with had a manual endorsement on their licence.
As leases expired, all manual cars were being replaced with autos.
There was a minivan that 'no one can drive' - three speed column shift. Useful when I wanted to move my furniture.
A long time ago I relearned how to drive a manual when the company gave me a very old Leyland (I think) truck to work with. It had a 5 speed manual gearbox (on the floor), a 2 speed rear axle, and NO synchromesh in the gearbox (called a crash gearbox back then).
I was given an hours tuition and was taught how to double declutch (I still do most of the time in my 2001 Ford Ranger).
It was called a crash gearbox because if you got the engine revs wrong you could still get it into gear, but you would go partly deaf as you shoved it into a gear.
I also used to drive an Austin/Morris J2 van which had a 4 speed column gearbox change and if the gear lever worked you were in a gear, though not necessarily the one you actually wanted.
Quite often yo would change up or down and get reverse instead.
Nasty evil machine that was.
I have also driven an old Armstrong Siddeley that had a pre selector gearbox. You could select any gear you wanted while driving and nothing happened until you used the clutch and it would then change to whatever gear was selected.
My first wife in the UK had a couple of DAF 44s or 55s and she loved them.

Housing costs in the U.S., Canada, U.K. etc are ruinous.
However people need to be realistic and understand that no target country is a paradise and they need to be realistic about how they are going to support themselves, as the place may be cheaper but it sure won't be free, especially if working in the local economy (plus of course visas). So you solve some problems leaving, but you gain some new problems as a trade off.
I wonder what he will do when he learns that he cannot actually own a house in Thailand legally?
A condo, yes, but a house.
I wonder if he also realises how difficult it can be for a foreigner to get a loan etc in Thailand?

I agree 100%.
The man, Frank Hester, is nothing more than a feejit. Just because his company has won a lot of contracts from the NHS, and he bankrolls the Tory party, does not mean to say that he is smart and intelligent.
In fact this goes goes to show that just because you are rich and have a lot of money, does not mean to say that you are smart and intelligent. Quite often it means the opposite as he has proved.
