You must be a riot at parties.

One wonders if the Bkk places are headed for the same fate as the world famous Bugis street in Singapore? During LKY's puritanical era where he sanitised Singapore it got shut down, apparently became derelict and eventually reincarnated as a shopping/ restaurant street, like a thousand others. All that remains of it's fame is the name. Perhaps Patpong will become the hub of bag shops, Nana will be three levels of restaurants and bars, and Cowboy- well who knows? It'd be nice if they preserved it as a museum of when Bkk was actually interesting, and not the hub of shopping malls. Perhaps they could build a replica of one of the R and R hotels as well. It'd be popular with us old guys for sure. Does anyone remember the Carlton Hotel, just around the corner from Cowboy? I had my first lesson in Thai customs when the waiter brought a jug of water that had suspicious things floating around in it, but my GF to be wouldn't let me complain. We just didn't drink it.

I was fortunate enough to visit both before they ceased to be. Can't say I was impressed by either though, but I guess they had their regular clientele. Did anyone try one of the No Hands restaurants? I never did get the hang of them, and never knew if I was supposed to get more than food or not- I didn't, but perhaps I didn't know the secret password or something. I only tried twice and gave up on them. It was early days and I didn't speak any Thai and they didn't speak any English.

I liked that food court. It had the best satay I found in Pattaya. I think we got nam pla or bottled water for 10 baht. No free water machine anyway.

Perhaps it's easier to sort out the con artists on line. Con artists are expert at presenting themselves as attractive individuals instead of the vile scum they really are. That's harder to do if not face to face.

Because it's creepy if the guy is hitting on her. What other reason would there be for him to do so? I don't know where you are from, but two guys kissing in public isn't normal where I live.

I knew that many western women that were prepared to go out with a guy to get the freebies, but are not interested in giving him a home run. I imagine it would be similar in LOS. I even had a nurse friend that used to to go to pubs for an evening with her friends, the guys would flock around and they would get free drinks all night, then they would leave. She used to laugh about it, and she was actually a nice person. I hate to think what nasty women get up to.

Errr, what's the chance that a random Thai woman met by chance speaks English well enough to a/ even understand a western joke b/ has a western sense of humour? I've never encountered any Thai woman that had a western sense of humour, and I have never been amused by what has them rolling around laughing fit to bust. What I have encountered are Thai women that pretend to understand western humour as they can sense a big pay off comin'.

Agree. To look at it from a non hooker perspective, who could imagine that attractive Thai women ( is any guy going to try it on with a woofer? ), who get hit on all the time anyway, are going to welcome some strange farang trying to hit on them when just trying to do a bit of shopping? Do they imagine that a/ attractive Thai women are just hanging around malls waiting for a farang to ask them out for wild sex b/ attractive Thai women are interested in strange farangs c/ that they are such God's gift to women that their animal magnetism is going to sweep attractive Thai women into bed with them? I was working on the assumption that said farangs are not wanting to spend an afternoon enjoying the history of various temples around Bkk, followed by an slap up dinner at their expense and a peck on the cheek as they say goodbye.

Nonsense in YOUR opinion. Thousands enjoyed his column, so why do you persist in trying to bring him down? Did he insult you personally or something? Why can't you just let posters that enjoyed his contribution to our lives celebrate his column? Why do you have to be so nasty about him. You didn't like his column, OK, can't you leave the thread be and not come on just to be a wet blanket. Bye.

I have to fundamentally disagree. From the early 90s till well into this century the farang scene in Bkk, which was basically Patpong, Nana, and Cowboy, remained basically the same. Purachai had a major impact during thaksin's diabolical period as PM, but it did come back, even if not as vibrant as previously. Early closing also made a huge difference as the scene in Nana after closing moved into Sukhumvit where small businesses soon moved in to provide pavement tables and drinks. Nana itself carried on much as always. I can't speak for Patpong this century as I no longer went there due to the vile night market, and many of the Gogos were gone and replaced by bag shops. Cowboy, which I did visit occasionally remained much the same, except for Tilac, which was my first hang out and the source of my first long time Thai GF, went horribly flashy and unpleasant. IMO the most drastic change has come from the internet which means the better girls no longer have to rotate around a chrome pole for some hours, in hope of being rented out. I prefer to think that Trink was woked out of his job. Had he just been simply retired as no longer relevant, they would at the least have given him a decent send off, which they didn't. New brooms and all that.

Are you saying Thailand had e mails since mid 90s? I didn't even see mobile phones back then. You seem to have a personal grudge against Trink to despise him so much. To myself and thousands, he was an informative and interesting source about Bkk night life to read weekly. Google is not my friend on finding out when internet became commonplace in Thailand, so the best I can do is this https://blog.apnic.net/2019/09/04/thseries-mapping-thailands-past-present-and-future-internet/ “Back then there were no commercial Internet Service Providers (ISPs) in Thailand. The first [Internet Thailand Company] was established in 1995; it deployed a 512 Kbps leased line to UUNET in the USA. So not exactly commonplace then. Another major change in the history of Thailand’s Internet (noted on the map) happened in 2001 following the passing of the Telecommunications Business Act (B.E. 2544). This made getting a license to operate a telecommunications business a lot easier, as previously ISPs were required to be a joint venture with the Communications Authority of Thailand. Which fits with my memories that internet cafes didn't start in Thailand till this century. Even in London, the first internet cafe I was able to use was very late last century. If you can provide proof that Trink may have been able to use the internet in the mid 90s and the use of e mails in Thailand was commonplace then, I'll bow to your superior knowledge.

I have enjoyed my time in Thailand, but...

IMO every country I have been in since I started working overseas, because NZ paid nurses a pittance, has got worse since then ( except for Saudi which couldn't get any worse ). Why should Thailand be different? Biggest change for me in LOS was staying in the country. I started on 90 day visa exempt back to back visits, and ended up paying an agency to avoid the BS, but that is a once a year thing. -

I don't, as I need more opportunities to have a laugh and his posts are often very comical. -

Perhaps Thai girls should refuse to have sex without a condom then. It's them that has the problem if they get pregnant. If they are too stupid to do that then it's on their own heads. I don't expect the boys to voluntarily use a condom because boys that don't want to are ignorant little <deleted> and unfortunately girls like that sort of cretin. So, sadly, it's on the girls to start being strong and saying no, not without a condom. -
Why did Hollywood become so boring ?

Are you saying it's OK in Thailand to steal intellectual property? -

I used to enjoy them. The totty is always spectacular. Like someone said to me way back when I was in school, just because it's garbage it doesn't mean you can't enjoy it. IMO most of the real movie garbage are the ones that win Oscars, the ones that the makers and actors think are important. Movies are for enjoyment. If I want social justice or some such BS I'll tune into the UN or some other irrelevant organisation, like parliament. I had an operation in 1980 and was in a ward that only had the parliament channel on the bedside headphones. Talk about a pack of idiots squabbling over BS! I've never had much respect for them since then. -
You really are taking the michael aren't you! The post I made, to which you responded with your irrelevant reference to Russia was If they give the money to Ukraine, can we expect that most of it will be stolen? Ukraine is, after all, a very corrupt country. NB, it was not a question in response to yourself, and I did not quote you. It is a stand alone question about Ukrainian corruption. It could be any money from anywhere- doesn't matter. It's about Ukrainian corruption PERIOD. Sooooo, where in that sentence can you see any reference to Russia that would necessitate introducing Russia for some unknown reason? We, as if you didn't know, is myself and anyone that agrees with me.

You really have a thing about him, don't you? I hope he does win, and does something about Washington this time. If ever a ( IMO ) snake pit needed a good cleaning it's that one. This time he won't have that <deleted> Sessions stabbing him in the back, so hopefully they won't be able to tie him up in BS again. The western economy, far as I can see, is built on BS, and is due to collapse anyway, so it doesn't really matter who is POTUS IMO. It's probably going to happen anyway. At least with Trump we get a few laughs on the way down. OR Nothing really bad happens and it's just BS as normal. OR WW3 happens and it's all irrelevant. OR we have the 1930s depression on steroids ( there are a few billion more people than last time ). Cue wars and civil strife everywhere. OR something else entirely Your guess is as good as mine

Do you believe in God and why
thaibeachlovers replied to ivor bigun's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
You are so right. Why oh why do posters keep complaining that God doesn't care about humans enough, as if God has to hold their hand and take away all their cares, feed them when hungry, heal them when ill, provide for every need. The Bible has a story about that when humans lived in the garden of Eden, but they disobeyed and were cast out. Time for some to man up, grow a pair and accept that mankind's problems are as a result of mankind's bad behaviour. God didn't make humans kill each other, eat bad food and drink alcohol or smoke tobacco- that's on people's choices. If God took away free will in exchange for an easy life, they'd likely complain about that too. Humans make bad choices, behave badly, and live badly. It's on them, not God. -
Like the song says "you never know what you've got till it's gone" and for sure the good times are gone baby, gone.

We were. Unfortunately I didn't know that till too late. Born after the war, and into the most prosperous times average westerners will ever know, just in time for the sexual revolution ( the pill ). Easy to get work, no <deleted> like the internet to waste time on. Before PC, before woke, before Vietnam tore the whole thing down and stamped on the pieces. That IMO was the beginning of the end of the dream that Kennedy espoused, a better deal for humanity, a dream turned to <deleted> in Dallas. IMO since then it's just been a long slow spiral into <deleted>, epitomised by the insane idea that we can be a different gender just because we want to be- madness. Then it's all the other barking sideshows along the way. I actually pity the youths of today, that will likely never know a world without having their faces glued to a screen.

Not so in Asian media, so perhaps that's the appropriate ending. I don't know how many Kung Fu movies I've watched where everyone dies at the end, but a few, and that trend continues, even in more modern Korean movies. Only Hollywood needs a happy ending For a taste of a really tragic ending watch Oldboy, though that isn't the most gruesome that I've seen by far. https://movieweb.com/korean-movies-with-tragic-endings/
