Seems you don't understand Trump very well, with your but but but 80 years of friendship irrelevance.
Trump, IMO, doesn't give a rat's bottom for all that, and considers the Euros to have been taking the US for a ride, and it's going to all stop now under D Trump.
Trump only cares about the US ( and for some inexplicable reason a certain other country ), and if the others want to be friends with the US, on US terms that's OK, but if they don't, well that's going to be their problem. Trump doesn't have friends- he has business partners.
BTW, what BENEFIT did the US get out of paying the lion's share of the costs of the "friendship" with the Euros? They get military bases closer to the enemy, but what else do they get for the US $? Plenty countries get deals and friendly relations with other countries without having to pay to protect them.
