  1. Logically of course such a ministry should be headed up by a military officer, as they are immune from political influences (!). as a military officer he would of course be appointed to the post by the army commander, and the job should be rotated amongst suitable candidates like all the other generals posts, without any interference from civilian elected politicians.

The overarching responsibilities envisaged for such a post would extend its power to the vast majority of fields of activity within government. Job done, never need to have a coup again!

  2. Sort of Police academy with sticky rice? Could be quite entertaining to watch them make fools of themselves.

The one on the left looks to be about 145, the one in the middle has a very suspicious tache, and the one on the right has had some very major plastic surgery!

  3. And equally important his degree in economics was an interdisciplinary degree, tying in practical economics with public government management, political science, and social policy aspects, that is ideally tuned for a PM for any nation. You add that to his near 20 years of active, up through the ranks Thailand politics and infighting, add his even temperament, and he is ideally trained for the job. Not so his opponent by any fanciful stretch of the imagination.

just a shame that he can't win elections though isn't it? :whistling:

  4. First a poster (lets call him A) remarks that you can expect to receive adverse comments for not following what some of the more prolific posters perceive to be the party line, a not unreasonable view given much of the recent content.

Then one of these prolific posters says no, all opinions are respected and views are welcome on this board. Very good to hear it.

Then another prolific poster, with strong and often expressed views, which follow what many perceive to be the party line, sneers at A for being new to the forum!

You really couldn't make it up!

  5. Pretty accurate of many I'd say - and most are hardened 'we hate Thaksin' brigade from what I've read - I'd say 90% of posters are anti-PT and very self-opinionated thinking 'they know best' for Thais

For a new member you have learned fast. 'hardened we hate Thaksin brigade' and '90% of posters anti-PT'. Furthermore opinionated 'they know best'. Of course it would help when you can qualify your statement to make it more than just your (self-)opinionated thinking. IMHO of course ;)

Please remember the obvious always needs to be pointed out :)

TV current affairs forum summed up in one post. if someone posts something you don't agree with, (yellow) crayon all over his post. You forgot to accuse him of being (as a new poster)in the pay of the Reds, but I'm sure someone will be along soon to put that right.

  6. Still a long way to go until july 3rd. Plenty of unexpected events could arise.

If PT win I expect the unexpected events will occur a couple of weeks after the result is declared. I wander if it will be judicial or armoured?

Either way, it will mean stuff the will of the people, you're getting the government we choose!

  7. 30,000 people might look like a lot, particularly if they are all wearing the same color, but it's only 0.045% of the population of Thailand.

True, but one suspects that the ignorant and stupid tag was intended to be applied to all and anyone who supported the red faction, in any of its manifestations.

That is a significant proportion of the population.

  8. [quote name=givenall' timestamp='1305802191'

I really want to know how many of these people will show upto these events if there no compensation or a promise of compensation. My guesswill be very few

    [/size]

then you underestimate the sheer ignorance and stupidity of these fools.

It's wrong to post URL marked photos, but it's OK to label a significant proportion of the people of this country as ignorant stupid fools?

  9. To the OP, do you really think the average Thai can understand "proper" English, with all the inflection, colloquial expressions, regional dialects, slang and accents? Being a native English speaker myself, I still can't make out but about have what a pommie says during a conversation. Perhaps you and your wife should lock yourselves in your house so you are not exposed to the real world, plonkers or not.

I'm a pommie and I haven't got a clue what that bit in bold is supposed to mean? Is it English?

    "Native English" I think mate!

  10. The Police estimate that well over 500000 were in London, lining the route, in The Mall and St James Park to see the procession and the balconey appearance.

At the same time the British republican movement held a Not The Royal Wedding Event elsewhere in London, it attracted a crowd of well over 400!

Finally, Kate looked beautiful, but Pippa......phwoar! (I hope best beloved does not read this).

  11. We should welcome him back if it is the will of the Thai people. Some people seem to forget he is still extremely popular.

In some circles he's still popular. But would Thaksin be a democratically acceptable politician on your home turf?

Rather depends on your view of democratically acceptable.

If Pheu Thai wins having campaigned on that basis, and if Thaksin is as a result granted an amnesty, then that presumably will be a democratically acceptable result. Mind you, it won't be so in the view of many in the military. the establishment or the judiciary,(nor some of the posters on this board!).

The real problem will be if Pheu Thai wins, and the result is overturned again. I just don't think that the Thai electorate would accept that happening again. In International circles it would be regarded as having very close parallels to Burma.

  12. My Stepson is 17, so the draft lottery is on the horizon. I wouldn't mind him serving if I could be sure that the training was good and the NCOs and Officers were capable and professional. He is a robust sensible lad and I don't think it would harm him.

However, I suspect that is not the case; from what I have seen (as a casual observer) and from what I read and hear of the military, I suspect it will involve a lot of bullshit and hanging around barracks, whilst the officers play politics in their messes.

  13. At least you don't have to wait until an Aussie speaks to identify him. He is the one with the brim of his hat turned up at one side. They do it so that they can get the chip onto their shoulder you know! :D

Having slung this social hand grenade.... I quite liked Central although Best Beloved wasn't impressed with the Som Tam in the Thai eatery!

  14. a loathsome, heinous cretin who rivals Hitler in his depravity.

To equate Thaksin, a corrupt (default setting for a Thai politician) populist with Hitler is pretty amazing! Have you ever stood at Belsen, and looked at the mounds containing thousands of Jews, have you ever looked into what happened at Auschwitz and Dachau, or looked into what happened to the entire Jewish population of Ukraine and Belorussia. Do us a favour, read up on these horrors and then come back and tell us whether you think Thaksin is a serious rival to Hitler.

  15. This continual Thai bashing needs to stop.

It's not funny or smart, and the continual abuse of Thailand and Thai people on this forum is enough to get this site banned from Thai servers, so even if you can't bring yourselves to stop for the sake of the many Thai people who are upset about the continual abuse they get here, then stop for the sake of ThaiVisa, or risk it being blacklisted on Thai servers.

I know it has been said before, but so many of the posters on this forum seem to really detest the people, culture and country of Thailand, I really wonder why they bother being members of TV!

Thailand has offered to help Japan, the Japanese have said thank you, not just now, we'll call if we need you. Seems to me that reflects well on Japan and Thailand.
