Was that the one near Lanna Golf Course, as that is the FB photos I've seen? They mention it being a forest fire and some photos look pretty intense.
Just looked on CM108 and a lot of photos of it there. CM108 fire

I'm curious, what exactly are you guys making with all this stuff?
For me it's my job at the university as a professional electronics design engineer and software developer in Physics, something I love doing. Below is something I put together in a couple of hours one morning with spare parts just for fun. Wanted to see how small an induction heater I could build. I had previously designed a much bigger and more powerful one for a research project that could melt iron whose results were published. One of hundreds of designs I've done there. Stop by sometime Nancy if you would like a tour.

Thanks for all the replies. I visited the shops listed and ended up with about half of what I needed. The rest I ended up ordering from RS Components, which are still having to get the parts from out of country. None of these items should be that hard to get and I am really surprised at the lack of components available in a city the size of Chiang Mai. The fact that RS Components had to order from out of country only adds to the mystery.
Out of curiosity, what were some of the components you couldn't source locally? For large orders or more unusual parts I always use http://th.element14.com/
High amp MOSFETs and high amp switches were the biggest issue. Also terminals, tabs, and other connectors were in short supply. Have yet to find any purely mechanical switches (other than monsters) from an supplier here in Thailand.
Surprising as I have bought IRL540s several times in CM. Much higher amperage MOSFETs or IGBTs I do usually have to order. As for switches, small toggle switches such as below have also been available but you mention high amp so probably not suitable. Any really high amp switching, if AC, I use contactors, if DC then MOSFETs and small switches or a microcontroller. When I get to work Tuesday will talk to my technician as to where he is getting my parts though most of the time it is Kitti but he mentioned some other places.

There was an attempt to do that in 2004 - "Land-owning benefit suspended from Thailand privilege card" http://ttgasia.com/article.php?article_id=9590

Below is since Friday. It hasn't hit PM10 or PM2.5 130 since April 22.
24 hour AQI calculations for PM2.5
Well if at all I go with the us consulate announcement on this matter
https://www.facebook.com/chiangmai.usconsulate/posts/10156878723975274
Which suggest otherwise. However visual check out of the window , live reports of my friends, using its own senses is the most trustful to go with for me. Numbers are just numbers can be right- highly unlikely they are. Living quality will not be fixed by numbers.
That report was May 6th as the consulate is closed for the holidays. I use the exact same data and calculator they do but using the most current 24 hour data. The 136 reported is not the PM levels but the AQI. The PM2.5 levels from your link was 49.94 ug/m3 on May 6th so out of date.

So is it safe to come back to Chiang Mai now? And I'm asking people who think the pollution is a problem, not the guys who think it's OK (and liveable as long as you have an air purifier... sorry, I just don't agree!) What's the verdict on the situation? Is it over?
No its not safe, as PM2.5 levels are still at least double sometimes triple the international safe level.
Be interesting to see a fire map to see where its coming from (surely the Thai's have burnt all they can by now?)

Also a big Invadeit fan. Since I discovered them years ago I haven't been to a computer shop since and I get everything from there. Matter of convenience and piece of mind and the professionalism of Thomas. In Chiang Mai I may have to spend time going to several shops to find what I want, if I can find it at all but with Invadeit it is a one stop shopping experience. For purchases for work, due to university red tape preventing online computer gear orders, I do use local sources such as J.I.B. but have a tech fetch them.

The server has been off line from at least 0200AM this morning based on another member's report and still off line. And downforeveryone shows it down - http://www.downforeveryoneorjustme.com/extranet.immigration.go.th

I expect the girls in the OP picture were only out in the sun for 5 to 10 minutes to take promotional photos. Then they all ran back inside to air conditioning and applying whiting cream. Many orientals, such as many Thai and Korean females, consider being dark so LoSo (Low Society...a laborer) and being light skinned HiSo.
Their umbrellas are behind the camera man.

Got really brave and tried two A/Cs at once. Yet to do the 3rd unit. So far, so good. No meltdowns or explosions. Thanks again, everyone.
If you hear a massive explosion from somewhere in central Isaan, it means that I left something important out of my query. And, my partner will be in "I told you so" mode for the next 3 years.
If you're out in Isaan, the biggest risk isn't the meter, it will be voltage drop.
How did it go?
Oooooh, I'm such an adventurer--by degrees.
The only disturbing thing: the little wheel spinning furiously inside the meter. Can't be a good thing.
You're right, it's not a good thing as it relates to your next electric bill.
We have 5 AC units but the most ever on at the same time are 3 on the rare occasion we have overnight guests and no problems.

....been through that with the septic guys as well....
...as for the flushing.....maybe the toilet is located lower than the water table....???
Not in this case. The septic tank and drain are between 1-2 meters below the 1st floor (ground floor) toilet.
This house is around 10-15 years old with western style toilets built in at the beginning. The odor issue was not there for the first few years here and is a new problem starting several months ago. The toilet issue popped up a couple of months ago. So I'm pretty sure it has a vent somewhere, maybe.

What I see, a lot of work for me.
1 of 3 electron beam accelerators (LINACs) I have to get operational. This one is 2 Megawatts, 4 MeV (million electron volts) magnetron based (like in your microwave oven but on steroids).

As this is regarding Pattaya LTD will move it to the Pattaya forum for local knowledge.

Has anyone seen any Arduino boards in any of the shops here in Chiang Mai?
If not local then you can look at ThaiEasyElec. I'm considering a Raspberry Pi from them.
Major forest fire Doi Suthep, Chiang Mai
in Chiang Mai News
Posted
Looks like it may not be farmers but hunters. They said they had the fire under control within 1 hour and was reported at 10:30AM. Guess not.
Fire At Doi Suthep – Pui National Park
CityNews – A large blaze broke out in the Doi Suthep – Pui National Park this morning after wild food hunters lost control of a small fire.
According to Chiang Mai Deputy Governor Mongkol Suksai, the fire spread after the wild food hunters lost control of a fire they lit to help catch wild animals to sell at the market.
