  1. Megken, I am very pleased you have a new kitten and I am sure you will get a lot of enjoyment from him or her, it was very good of you to share your experiences and to try to warn others and I am sorry for the negative comments you received. It must have been a very difficult decision for you about the blood transfusion and I am sure that in your situation I would have done the same thing, after all a small chance is better than no chance at all.

  2. On the pets plants and vets forum there is a guy in Bangkok who has kittens that will be ready shortly,I know it is a fair way to go but they look well cared for and very cute. He is looking for good homes for them so maybe it is worth a look. I have his number if you want to pm me.

  3. I am so sorry for what has happened to you.

I bought a kitten from a market but not in Pattaya, it was a lot younger than I was first led to believe (only four weeks old) but has been given the all clear by the vet and now doing well but I wouldn't buy a pet from any of these markets again.

  4. I am really surprised that someone who I presume is from the UK (please correct me if I am wrong) finds Thailand to be a dangerous place.

I feel a lot more at ease in Thailand than I did in the UK I have never been harassed for money by a beggar at an atm machine or crossed the road to avoid a gang of hoodies over here. I walk around at night alone and feel very safe.

  5. One other point, the on RF the sound systems are different so initially you'd get a good picture but no sound in the UK although this can be rectified with a simple software change.

Also Thai TV doesn't have any teletext system like there is in the UK and this would be expensive to add (if required).

If it's an LCD/plasma the chances are it'll sort itself out automatically and detect the sound and video system.

Both my Thai purchased LCDs have teletext (or seem to, it doesn't do much of course). One is a 32" Tatung that was on offer in HomePro, the default channel names were BBC 1, BBC 2, ITV and Channel 4, it had a UK plug and a manual in English, I wonder where that container was headed when it fell off the back of a ship :o Worked just fine on Thai broadcast and satellite.

I used to work for Tatung in the UK and their TV's were manufactured in Chonburi, Thailand and assembled in the UK, now they don't even assemble them there, everything is done in Thailand. They tend to sell them off on special offer when they have too much stock and a new model is coming out. They probably wouldn't worry too much about which market they where originally made for either, hence the UK plug and t/text. A friend of mine who still works at the Chonburi factory recently asked if I wanted one as they were being offered to staff at a good discount.

  7. As far as I am aware anyone with a non imm o visa can import household goods free of duty within six months of coming to Thailand, whether you have a work permit or not, I did post a link about this in a previous thread but as luck would have it I can't find the link now but if you do a search I'm sure you will find it.

  8. I sent household goods over in February from Uk with a company called seven seas, I wasn't charged import duty and the whole thing took about 9 weeks, make sure you get a door to door service - also I believe the type of visa you have can make a difference to whether you pay duty or not, but as mentioned above it can also depend on many other things, I have also received many parcels from friends in the UK and never paid duty on them - maybe I am just lucky as I have heard of quite a lot of people being stung for import duty or 'tea money'

  9. ah, but where can you find marrowfat peas I have looked (admittedly for tinned and not for dried) and cannot find them anywhere, mushy peas are ok but I prefer bigga processed peas

  10. I used a company called seven seas from the UK, I sent 4 teachests with various items including a pc, lcd monitor and all accessories, various household items and also tools including a grinder, electric drill and soldering kit. I was worried about import duty as most of my gear still looked brand new and was packed in the original boxes and thought they may have had something to say about the tools but the shipping company assured me there would be no extra charges and they were true to their word. I had to take my passport to the shipping office so they could clear my teachests through customs. Only delay was it took them 10 days to deliver them to my home after they had cleared customs, oh and if it makes any difference I had a non o visa in my passport which I am led to believe allows you to import your household goods free from import duty.

  11. there is no Brit national anthem

God save the Queen is the most often used on official occasions, Rule Britannia comes in a distant second.

No British national athem? First I've heard of it, the official national anthem is God save the Queen but I agree with happyjackthe4th it should be changed to Land of hope and glory. Oh and I can sing the first few lines of each, not very tunefully though. :o

  12. I am a mrs and have been since I was 18, I used to get quite offended when people automatically called me miss because of my age even when my title was in front of them in black and white. I would never want to be called Ms but thats just my personal choice so please no one jump on the band wagon over it.

  13. Dont forget that a lot of higher level GPS phones and PDA's can also run Garmin XT and use the same ESRI maps.

Any idea where I could get this done around Pattaya?

They would need to speak english and be able to explain things in simple terms as I don't have a clue when it comes to technical stuff

I know this may be a lot to ask in Thailand....

  14. Ethihad are absolutely fine to fly with but I always do it in two hops, Bangkok to Abu Dhabi and then onto Manchester

If you did choose this route Abu Dhabi airport is possibly the most unorganised ever, you need to be on the ball because the staff aren't, don't rely on them to call you for your flight in plenty of time.

The prices you have been quoted are probably the best you will get I paid £310 one way from UK in Feb

  15. When you watch people making 3 and 4 attempts to park in a parking bay the thought of them trying to manouvre a trailer is pretty scary, I think I prefer the badly loaded pick ups

  16. Isabelle17, I am so glad other people get mixed up with countries aswel, I thought it was just my folks being weird!

When I went back to the UK in December some of my family were freaking out about a British man supposedly killed in Thailand. I hadn't seen anything on the internet so I investigated a bit more and found out they were actually talking about the Phillipines, how they confused this with Thailand I have no idea.

  17. However, Farang who think that gay relationships are somehow worse than straight ones really do annoy me and I hoped that I had left that kind of prehistoric idiocy behind when I moved to this country.

Well said Himachal, there are some farang who think that only people of the same age, race and sex can have a genuine relationship, I experienced this in the UK but did not expect to find it in Thailand.
