  1. Why is it that people ALWAYS think it is the gas? It is a sealed system, where did the gas go? Cars are a different story and have to be topped up regularly as they use rubber ¨O¨ rings for deals and they leak by nature. If your A/C needs gas it has a leak, if you don´t fix the leak you are wasting your time.

Old units can leak just a fraction of gas for whatever reason and you only notice this after a while. I had an old beer cooler that had this problem and I saw many units in hotels where the evaporator was covered with ice. In these cases the compressor never stops working, ecxept for clixon or other heat protector coming in. No cooling but high power consumption.

So unless the leak was repaired, topping up the refrigerant would have been a waste of time......

It doesn´t matter how old the unit is IT SHOULD NOT BE LOSING GAS. If it is there is your problem. Leaking for whatever reason? So they just leak? Do you think it should be doing this or that the leak should be found and repaired?

It is an easy way to keep getting repeat custom, just keep treating the symptoms and never apply a cure... Keep topping up the gas, don´t find the leak, that takes time and patience and may even involve work. Then you wont have to come around every 6 months to top it off and make a few more easy bucks.

If the clixon on the compressor was tripping out all the time I would be suss about the compressor, having being run with a leak for a long time.

Evaporators covered in ice is generally a symptom of gas problems (and therefore a leak).

I have NEVER seen a Thai A/C man use a leak detector, or vac / pressurise the unit and check for leaks. Is it holding a vaacuum? Purging and pressurising with Nitrogen for a period will also let you know if there is a leak and it has the added advantage of cleaning any ¨shale¨ from welding from the inside of the pipe ensuring there are no contaminants.

Take the time and do the job properly the first time and there are generally few problems until old age sets in (or the warranty runs out).

By writing all this it seems you prove that I am right.

  3. I tend to say that keeping stock is a problem for many suppliers. Short term shortage might be due to big demand, but long time stock (trouble) is a matter of planning. But I must add to this that sometimes even the main factories/suppliers have their problems.

We all know there was no Schweppes Manao. Cheap excuses like it is not the manao season or it is to dry and manao won't grow and more of this.

Yes, stock planning is at least a Thai thing I would say.

Even restaurants don't have real stock. They order when the shelf is empty and not how it should be done, when the shelf is half empty or a bit under.

It is not a big thing in Thailand to say 'mai mee'.

  4. "Another, meanwhile, warns against littering"

Better print that in Thai & hand out to locals!

I had a wee chuckle to myself when I read the bit about litter. I was having a few drinks at the GFs sister's house today. The GF rips the plastic seal off of a bottle of water and throws it on the ground. I tell her to pick it up and she points at the other assorted bottle tops and the like that have been thrown on the ground during the day as if that is an excuse for her to do so. I pick it up and stick in her beer. She wasn't too happy but it made me smile. smile.png

    Good action!!

My wife is visiting family during SK and I toke the chance to get some things cleared/cleaned around the house. Now we have this fridge with water dispencer that has to be filled up every couple of days. Next to it is a small ice cube freezer installed for many month already and when I toke that from the wall I couldn't believe my eyes. For as long as that freezer was there the safety capsules from the refill bottles had been thrown behind that freezer.

That is not about lazyness, no no, you got that wrong; it is al about mai bpen rai and what you don't see cannot possibly be there.

  5. These days fines up tp 10,000 baht for drink and drive. If motivation for this is to get those potential killers off the road, then fine them burner killers as well as they are these days a thread to ALL people around them. And the damage they do is obvious by the number of people in hospital now and nature of course.

Sent the BIB out to raid the forests and do really something usefull by catching those burner killers and bring them to court and fine the severely.

No man, it is easier to pick poor motorcyclists from the streets who wear no helmets and fine THEM for a days wages.

  6. A few days of clean air might help!

Certainly not in Chiang Mai. Just back from a trip to Ang Thong and Khorat and I might advice Khorat for the moment.

No quarantee what it will be next week over there, but CM is definitely not improving. Where is the Doi Suthep? Not even

hot burning season. Oh well, a red sun is what they show you in SF movies, but it will soon be reality again in CM.

  7. Finding dry/instant yeast is the easiest part.

I use Fermipan. Works very well.

If your recipe calls for 2 gr fresh yeast, use 6 gr. dry yeast, which equals 2 tea (or coffee?) spoons.

2 gr is meant to be 20 gr right? Check yrself out next time please.

No no Hugo, I don't need to check mself out next time please.

If your recipe calls for 20 gr fresh yeast, use 60 gr dry yeast. Which equals to how many tea spoons?

I don't want to waste any more time reading your posts. You're on my ignore list.

The answer in post #12 shows that post #8 is not correct. 2 gr of fresh yeast is NOT equal to 6 gr dry yeast.

    Now go ignore yourself please.

    who's the idiot here?

Proportion or Ratio of Flour to Yeast

One packet of dry yeast per 3 cups of flour

0.5% of the weight of the dry flour in the recipe.

    • For example, for 500 grams of flour, use about 2.5 grams of yeast. This is just under 1 teaspoon.

Seems you are the idiot here since you cannot read properly.laugh.png

The statement was about the ratio of fresh yeast to instant dry yeast. facepalm.gif

  10. I use always 16-16-16 +TE, ( Weegee knows) normally about 3 - 4 times a year, and don't pick up my clippings. I have about 800 sqm to cut and it takes me less than 2 hours with a self traction Honda mower.

But normally you should have your soil analyzed to know which formula is ideal, only I don't know where in Thailand they can do that.

Yes agree to the soil condition. If in neighborhood of Mae Jo or another agricultural university you might get a sample research.

555...most Thai soil needs no research, is quite poor if not close to a river or so.

  11. I don't understand OP. Yeast is available in mostly all supermarkets and special stores. Just say yeast at your best Thai and they will know what you mean as it is a loan word like sapaghetti.

Fresh yeast is looking for the holy greal.
