  1. I was invited there for lunch by a student, and one of her friends had been to a party the night before....... It's a very funny 'observation', although she didn't mean it to be as funny as it is. She was serious. At least, I think she was. Someone else on this site commented on it, and didn't get that by the time you get to the bottom of the bottle the drink is having a stronger effect than when you started.
  2. No no no. Passakorn’s friends and relatives who (weren't there and) later arrived at the scene believe that there must be other vehicles involved that led to the accident. It was the phantom other vehicle's fault. It's always someone else's fault. Even when it isn't.
  3. Once upon a long time ago I managed a record shop in Soho, and the original James Bond was one of my customers. Had quite a few 'names' wander in to buy, and I spotted Sid James outside having a natter with someone. That was back in the days of the soon-to-be repeated Winter Of Discontent, when some days I had to work by candlelight. I remember back then people stockpiled sugar instead of toilet rolls. Times change, but not much.
  4. I watched a recent UK tv series called Vigil, set on a nuclear submarine and around the Scottish navel base. Black commanding officer - tick Indian female doctor having an affair with a white officer - tick Two lesbian members of the police force, with their relationship completely irrelevant to the plot - tick Two gays on the submarine - they missed that one and will no doubt be banned from any further scriptwriting.
  5. Don't need the app either. But as this is the 21st century nothing can be done if you don't have a smart phone and apps for everything. Except you don't really need the app, you only think you do. Some will say the paper slip can be forged, but I've yet to read of anyone who has been refused anything with such a slip. And, anyway, the yellow book could be forged too. Ask anyone on Khao San Road. Signed Old Fart Dinosaur
  6. Perhaps you should tell your friend that UK citizens do not need a visa, unless they are planning a long stay.
  7. I always make a point of carrying 300,000 baht with me when I climb over a neighbour's wall at midnight, and I always carry a gun in case he wants to take the 300,000 from me. The victim's family are just acting typically Thai. They dream up a story but are totally unable to think it though and realise what an idiotic story it is. And to make it even more ridiculous, the police believe it might be true and obtain a search warrant to search for the cash. But then, just remember the IQ level in Thailand.......
  8. And nor do the police, nor do the schools, so I don't care either. Their country, their culture, up to them. As someone cleverly wrote on here after another similar incident, 'A motorcycle is what a parent buys their son for his last birthday'. And it isn't just motorcyclists who have zero concept of safety. A photo I took of kids riding home from school..... It is impossible for me to understand the level of stupidity in this country. No common sense or concept of safety at all. Absolutely none.
  9. Okay. I'd be looking at late January to get a third by which time, according to the government, Thailand will be swamped with vaccines of all kinds from all over the world. I wait to see the reality.
  10. A driver once sailed his car through the top of a tree opposite my house. Thai drivers are capable of anything, sometimes defying the laws of physics.
  11. You write as if you are in Bangkok and have a choice. Over 80% of people in Thailand do not live in Bangkok, nor have they had a choice. They might consider themselves lucky to have had any vaccination at all. I as an over 60 (65?) have seen no reason to pay for something that was offered for free (unlike some who have paid weeks ago for Moderna and are still waiting), and I have also seen no mention anywhere that a third dose will be charged for in government hospitals.
  12. When saying airlines tickets I assume them to mean a print out of some electronic document showing you have booked a flight. Then they should state airline reservation and not airline ticket.
  13. Or, they could be vaccinated with one that is accepted. Even if it means having more than the usual two. I've had Sinovac and AZ, but will get a second AZ before travel.
  14. Airline tickets as such have not existed for decades. Thailand will catch up eventually and realise that. It's just taking time....
  15. The British Consulate office called me a few days ago and asked if I had managed to get vaccinated. I was able to confirm that I'd had the Sinovac/AZ double, and asked (as Sinovac is accepted almost nowhere) if she had any idea if I'd be able to get a third jab early next year so I could travel to Dubai without problems. She laughed and laughed. They probably don't even know what will be available next week, let alone next year.
  16. Unfortunately, more than 80% of the people in Thailand do not live within an area where such a certificate is available.
  17. How can you blame a driver who parked as close to the curb as he could in order to deliver his heavy load? Unbelievable. It is a long straight wide road, with plenty of room for a motorcyclist to get past. If he was paying attention, which clearly he wasn't.
  18. My father-in-law kept his motorcycle in the house, in the same room he slept in. So the fact that a battery might also be in the vicinity isn't a stretch of the imagination. In Thailand that is, not where we come from.
  19. Come on! How long have you been in Thailand? Surely you know that there doesn't have to be a written rule. The rule is whatever the uniform says it is, and arguing about it will get you nowhere. But up to you if you want to risk it. Why should I care. I was just saying that you might get unlucky.
  20. And when the pumps fail? But then, I'm sure they've been maintained and tested frequently to ensure they are in fine working order.
  21. Risky. When I asked if I could access during the approval period I was told No very firmly. To answer your question, you live on the money that you have over and above the 400,000. If you can't do that then you run the risk of the extension being refused. The fact that you have 'always dipped into' in the past doesn't mean you can get away with it next time. If they check your account, and they might, and if the IO is having a bad day, as he or she might, then the problem is yours, not theirs.
  22. Yesterday, my 12 year old nephew was afraid to pose with me for a photo as I'd been to a nearby supermarket and might have Covid. While the fact that he himself had recently travelled 100 kms in a packed van to visit a relative didn't count, as of course he couldn't have caught Covid to give to me. Even at that age he has the Thai mentality of foreigners bad, Thai good.
