  1. This kind of thing is sickening to me, lots of students use machetes to fight also. I think the penalty for this should be harsh.

Once again, about the victim complaining of smoking, he should've just not complained and kept his head under the radar, pop your head up and bad things can happen. Admittedly he shouldn't have lost an arm over such a small issue but you never know how mental people can be.

The Thais have always treated me well and I try to reciprocate.

    Exactly!

Plus, a lot of people tend to forget they're a guest in this country; that's in the back of my mind all the time.

I treat people like I want to be treated, works most of the time. As I said in the Swiss guy kicking incident post, better to keep your head under the radar, makes life a lot easier and less problematic.

Remind me which country doesn't have its own rules and laws?

    Exactly!

As far as social media being judge and jury, that's an just an unfortunate thing now days! Most people don't want to find the facts for themselves, easier to just go along with whatever social media you follow is saying.

The family’s distress is compounded by the fact that the new wife has been living in their family home, causing friction and discomfort.

Seen this a lot with Thai familes; they think it's a good idea for family members to live together--family stays close......I don't think so! My extended family only comes to visit every once in a while---like every couple of years, a lot better in my opinion.

Why does it take so long for trials and sentencing here in Thailand?

Because it gives you time to pay people off to get the sentence reduced. Fact, had a family member go thru this process, he had 3 opportunities to "make things right" but unfortunately for him, didn't have the cash to make things happen so went to prison for the full term. He didn't serve the full term as he got off for good behavior but could've been a lot less time to start with.

  6. I've always had good luck with these. I get about 10-15 years out of one, and our water is very alkaline so that takes some life out of them. I added a pressure tank on this last one, so the pump starts/stops less but runs longer which should be better for it.
