I guess the next news story we'll hear will be about about the bombers mysteriously making their way to another country...like the Ufun people and others. Amazing Thailand!

It's rife throughout Thai society, from street fights to car accidents to bad business practices to politics; when it all goes bad....run, run, run as fast as you can! It must be a mandatory course in the schools here.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, same old rhetoric every songkran. Soooo tired of hearing this! Talk is cheap, actions speak louder than words.

As a fellow mariner I hope they find the missing, and to the ones lost at sea..RIP. My thoughts are with them and their families.

Does anyone know of any high water volume toilets available in Thailand?
I installed a new toilet in my house and thought I would go "green" and use a low volume toilet. It was a major brand and functions well except for the fact that you have to flush it numerous times to get the waste out of the bowl. What good is low volume if you have to flush numerous times to empty the bowl? Anyway, I've looked at all the major home improvement stores but seems they've all gone "green" and only sell low volume models. I have an older high volume toilet in another bathroom that I'll be holding on to for as long as I can for this reason.
Thanks in advance

Before any pro-Thai posters say this, I'll clarify it, I'm not a cheapskate and I can afford to pay the double price for these venues, in fact I've dumped millions of baht into my extended Thai family and Thailand, but I don't go to these places that charge me double, it's the point of the matter. I'll find somewhere else to go that respects me--as a guest in their country (their words, not mine) and my baht. Would you have a guest come stay with you and charge them double for things in your house?

I feel the same way as the OP, Thailand used to be cheap but I think I can live in my home country cheaper than here. Good luck to you if/when you make the move back. I'm exploring this optiion also but the ol' inertia thing is keeping me here.

I think the Cambodians experienced some "attitude adjustments" years ago....worked out well for them, eh?

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Democracy is a form of government based on four elements:
- The citizens choose and replace the government through free and fair elections;
- There is active participation of the citizens in politics and civic life;
- There is protection of the human rights of all citizens; and
- There is rule of law, in which the laws and procedures apply equally to all citizens.[1]Eligible citizens are able to: 1) vote for the passing/rejecting of laws or run for office during elections, 2) join political parties, sit on boards or committees, and criticize or protest, 3) feel that some of their rights are protected, and 4) receive a fair trial if accused of breaking the country's laws. Politicians represent their constituents in the proposal, development and establishment of the laws by which their society is run.
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopediaDictatorship is a form of government where political authority is monopolized by a single person or political entity, and exercised through various mechanisms to ensure the entity's power remains strong.[1][2]A dictatorship is a type of authoritarianism, in which politicians regulate nearly every aspect of the public and private behavior of normal people. Dictatorships and totalitarianism generally employ political propaganda to decrease the influence of proponents of alternative governing systems, as is the nature of nationalism of any governing system.Going by the definitions of the two forms of government, seems to me Thailand is currently a long way away from the first and a LOT closer to the second. The original post wasn't about corruption, rice schemes, brothers in charge in absentia, women not being able to lead, etc; it was about democracy being dead. Possibly Prayuth is trying to do some good, but it's not a democratic government he's getting it done with. If he held elections tomorrow--or even set a date and stuck to it, I'd raise my hat to him, but he indicates a PM will be appointed by parliament; don't see that in the definition of democracy either.......hmmmm

The family should try the www.gofundme.com website. You can set up a fund that people can donate to help you. I've donated many times to different causes....and yes, I know some people could be scamming. A chance you take and you can donate as much--or as little as you like. Altruism is a wonderful thing.
And no, I don't work for or receive any financial benefit from www.gofundme.com
Before someone sarcastically asks, "Didn't you read ALL the threads(?), they've already done that." The thread was getting off topic from the original post--as most do, before I saw the one about the family setting up the justgiving fund. I had given up on the thread actually being constructive, so stopped reading after a few posts.

Hard to believe but I've had them for over 16 years--even during the UBC era, and if they haven't got it right by now, they never will! I soooo wish some other company would come to Thailand and put them out of their misery....and the subscribers! I know it's not a monopoly on their part, as there is some competition out there, but something's going on since it's only small time players that even try to compete against them.

Hopefully they made enough off all the underage drinkers to afford the payola in order for them to stay open..........oh forgot....that doesn't go on now under the present administration
Didn't read the report, did you?
I guess you mean the last sentence that mentions "recommendation" and "permanently closed down", two very liberal, open to interpretation words/phrases used rather frequently here in Thailand.

In our house I've had the same problem with several outlets and found out that although the pipes in the house are PVC, the elbows in the wall that the faucets screw into were made of galvanized steel. Anyway, after removing the fittings to these elbows found the openings down to approx. 3-5 mm due to rust/corrosion. I cleaned the rust out as best as possible with a metal rod. I have to do this approx once a year in order to keep the pressure/flow reasonable. The water we have is very alkaline so corrodes the elbows rapidly. Eventually I can see where all the fittings will have to be replaced. It's an idea to check this if your pump is putting out the correct pressure but the pressure/flow to different outlets is low.

I got an income affidavit from my embassy to meet the retirement visa/extension of stay, but Thai immigration said to come back in 5 weeks. I know I should've, but I forgot at the time to ask; can I use this same document in 5 weeks or does it need to be a closer to the time I get the extension? In 5 weeks I can show them a latest salary slip to corroborate the document. Also, if this document won't work can I use a joint Thai bank account-- with 800k in it, I have with my Thai wife instead of the affidavit? Thanks in advance for any sensible answers.

I see where just a few kms out of Pattaya they've started major repairs both north and south. They need more money to pay for the repairs of the shoddy first job they did. I notice most of the roads over here are too thin to start with; must be scrimping on the foundation, so inevitably the road doesn't survive very long. Or maybe.....if they don't do it right the first time it has to be done over and over which keeps the money flowing.......hmmmm

I've got all the documents needed for the extension of stay based on marriage to a Thai, but was curious if I can use the bank account if it's a joint account with myself and my wife. The money is in a fixed account and has been in there for many years. Does the account have to be in my name only? I searched the ThaiVisa forum for this topic but couldn't come across anything.
Thanks in advance for any answers

Before I start; I know it's an "extension of stay" and not a retirement visa. I only use the term retirement visa as it's easier. A lot of the other threads get off topic with semantics concerning this issue.
Anyway, I'm going to apply for the retirement visa and was wondering if, after applying you have to be "in country" 30 days later to supply/pick up your passport? I'm not going to be here 30 days after I apply; I'll be back at work. I can hear people now, "Why the retirement visa if you're still working"? Easier for me than any other alternative.
Thanks in advance for any sensible answers

I've got a one year non "O" multi visa based on marriage but want to change it to retirement. I've got a house in a company's name--I know, it's illegal, I set this up 20+ years ago and will be changing it soon. Anyway, my name is not on the house book, my wife's is. Can I use the electrical bill--which is in my name, as proof that I stay there?
Thanks in advance

Don't see what the problem is, seems like a win-win situation. They ignore you and you ignore them and they won't ask you for anything later. Hahaha
Seriously though, I tried and tried and tried for 20+ years on some of my wife's relatives, finally gave up and just ignore them like they do me....no problem. I guess you could say I came down to their level, or they finally beat me down to their level. Whatever........life's too short to worry about the small s**t.

Does anyone know what the attached photo is? I know it's either a cable or fiber connection just not sure which one. It's right outside my house and if it's fiber I'll sign up for it. I didn't see which company installed it but I'll find out, if it's fiber connection. One of my friends that lives in the same mooban got fiber to his house but it stopped quite a ways from his house and copper came in the rest of the way. Needless to say he didn't get the speed advertised....by a lot.

Not sure why this should be an issue for legitimate language schools, as they're supposed to be teaching languages........surely they're not just set up for visa purposes?

I was issued this visa in KL approx 6 months ago with the proper documentation. I've been going there for the same visa for approx 15 years with no problems. Probably not the cheapest option, but one to consider.

My neighbors wife did the same thing a few years back. Lost a 5 mil baht house on a card debt of 400,000 baht, guy didn't have a hope in hell of keeping it. They sign over the house deed in order to secure a certain amount of baht, no chance of selling it and paying the debt, house is already the loan sharks once she signs it over.
