  1. lovethailandelite.....you've got more patience with TV members than I have! I'm only on page two of the thread and am sick of people not listening to you. Basically people don't want to hear the truth. I was down there a few weeks back and the lady in the left hand side office told me and my wife the same thing; the law has been on the books but never enforced, but will be from now on. My wife gave her a big wai and apologized so I wasn't fined......."this time", her words not mine. Since I've got a lot to lose if denied a visa/extension of stay I'll be heading down there to report, cheap insurance.

I hope that Lovethailandelite will continue to give us his valuable and helpful postings on this and other topics. It seems to me he is trying his utmost to be of assistance to other members here and deserves great credit for his input and experience.

And also his patience to put up with all the naysayers that won't listen. Personally I'll go down there within 24 hrs upon arrival, if they take the form, great, if they tell me not to worry about it I won't. It's a hassle but maybe more of a hassle later when I try to renew my visa/extension of stay.

  3. Was just at Jomtien immigration today and they told me it's a law that has always been on the books but was never enforced......but will be now. The immigration officer said she could fine me but chose not too.

Seems stupid because you have to put the address you're staying at on your TM 6 card you give them at the airport. TIT

Just my opinion but I think after they get inundated with farangs coming in they'll slack off.

  4. I have to side with the engineer. After 23+ years here I've seen my share of confrontations; they usually start one on one but inevitably end up with lots of people involved. Since this guy was dealing with a mob of angry teens to start with it wouldn't have ended well for him and his family. It's just sad someone lost their life over something trivial.....which seems to happen a lot over here; like looking at somebody the wrong way, stepping on someone's foot in a club, cutting someone off in traffic; the list goes on and on.

RIP to the teen that died and kudos for the engineer for protecting himself and his family. It's not an easy decision to take someone else's life.

Genuine refugees are fleeing some form of persecution or danger. They have to accept protection from the first safe country they arrive at. Those people may chose to stay in their new county and if so should assimilate and integrate and make an effort to do so.

Illegal economic migrants are not refugees. They are trying to avoid legal immigration and to cherry pick the country they want to go to where they expect they will be given the most free. This idea they can illegally enter and cross many countries and then have an entitlement to simply plant themselves on a country of their choosing which must accept and provide for them, whilst they make no effort at integrating is very different to a refugee.

Countries have their own criteria and rules to help genuine refugees. The others are simply illegal immigrants and should be treated as such.

Excellent! You hit the nail on the head!
