Has there been some new threat from the US I'm not aware of?
Much ado about nothing!

Nation Newspaper, shut up. Shut your mouth, and stop printing such ridiculous stories.
Do you really think that if Thaksin or Abhisit were back in charge, oh, Thailand would not be so close to China ?
You want to call this a 'grave mistep' ? I say that it is you who is more likely to be making a grave mistep by printing such a silly opinion. Okay, what exactly are you trying to say ? You wrote "our Asean neighbours were already aware that China enjoyed a close relationship with Thailand". Well, yes, everybody already knows that. Is it dangerous for Thailand to say this, and say it to ASEAN ? Off-course not. ASEAN already knows. You want to talk about Thailand's spirit of solidarity with ASEAN ? Was it good to show affection for a country (China) that is in conflict with THailand's neighbours ? What nonsense are you on about ?
Get real, China is the big dominant power in the Far East, and ASEAN is actually powerless against China. ASEAN needs Thailand more than Thailand neeeds ASEAN.
Nation Newspaper, if you look at a map of the area, you will notice that Thailand sits between Burma, Laos and Cambodia. Basically, any club involving them three needs to have Thailand in it. Otherwise, Thailand will simply not allow the other three countries to trade (using Thailand's roads as road freight). So, if Thailand pulls out of ASEAN, then three of ASEAN's countries will have a massive problem. Also, the Phillipines needs Thailand more than Thailand needs them. ASEAN's rules means that skilled Phillipinos will be allowed to enter into Thailand and work, and those Phillipinos will benefit massively if they can can enter Thailand. You really think the Phillipines will be willing to pull out their future skilled workers from Thailand because they are offended by Thailand's actions ? No way. Phillipinos are not stupid, they're going to want to keep their skilled workers in Thailand. It's almost as absurd as trying to claim that Poland might pull it's workers out of England. It will not happen.
About China. Thailand's ace card IS China. Vietnam and the Phillipines have their territory disputes with China, yes, they are closer to China. Thailand does not have such disputes, hence, Thailand gets on with China. Good. Hence, Thailand will benefit by being China's launch-pad into ASEAN. Vietnam and the Phillipines might try to do a partial block of the Chinese goods being imported, they won't do it though. But if they did, the Chinese goods will simply be transported to Thailand, and then re-routed to Vietnam and the Phillipines.
So, Nation Newspaper, stop trying to say that Thailand should be worried because ASEAN might be offended by some comments made by Thailand. Thailand has very little to fear. ASEAN is scared, not Thailand.
Wow! Jai yen yen.

They are buying it so they continue to look like a nice big cuddly teddy bear to Thailand and continue to lull them into a false sense of security. One day they will morph from a teddy bear into a hungry dragon.

Why would it be banned? From the trailer this isn't even remotely like what happened in Thailand.
Watch the first 5 or 6 episodes of a British show called "Strike Back", season 5 this year. It's very good and interesting. These episodes all take place in Thailand. I love how much money he gives the guy on the boat to use his phone...a fortune.

I don't understand why this is so difficult when it seems the whole country, aside from some Red Shirts, hates this guy. The most important part is the people in charge hate him. I know that some Issan people aren't happy with him, so why is this so difficult?

It's all about the money. The more you are perceived to have the more greedy they get.
I don't blame her, especially if what she said was true that she was cut-off by a motorbike, then it wasn't her fault.

Sorry Jingthing, but as far as I'm concerned, you have to make your own desserts to get high quality desserts at a reasonable price. Thailand just doesn't have the desserts we like in the US at reasonable prices.
The only thing I am happy with here is the ice cream you can get a Swensen's at a reasonable price.
My three favorite desserts that I make are carrot cake, which is easy to make and the ingredients easy to get.
I also learned how to make big, fat, juicy, decadent cinnamon buns, although it takes a bit more time and effort than the carrot cake...it's worth it.
I also make a fantastic pumpkin pie with the star ingredient being, Libby's pumpkin pie filling in a can that can be found at Villa Market or Tops or the market on the ground floor of Central in Pattaya.
BTW, Buds is available at both Big "C" stores I shop at here in Pattaya. They are out of San Francisco. It is not difficult to find at all. I am not such a connoisseur of ice creams that Bud's does not totally satisfy me with taste and selection as opposed to spending $10 for a pint of Ben and Jerry's or Baskin Robbins or Haagen Daz...I also like their Rum and Raisin and their Chocolate Lava or something like that. Their prices run about 170 baht per pint at Big "C".

Our guards were fired several years ago and break-ins dropped to almost nothing. The guards were letting their buddies know when residents were not at home.

"...Thailand urgently needs a new approach to control the stray dog population..."
Has someone finally woken up from a sleep. Same thing with cats, although the dogs are much worse.
Hey, Thailand, why do you think 1st world countries have instituted "dog pounds" and "dog catchers" and dog licensing requirements? It is nice that Thailand tries to never have to euthanize dogs, but it's coming around to bite you in the arse. I'm surprised it took this long.

I find it laughable what they lump under the heading of "National Security"...like 14 students peacefully protesting.

If God would approve of this, then this is not a God I would have any belief or faith in.
Religions are as corrupt and arrogant as some of the worst governments.

Fast track him to an execution.

I don't understand how they can conceive of a Senate that is not wholly elected.
In the US there are two senators for each state. They represent the people in their state. If the people in their state believe the senator is not representing them accurately then he or she will be voted out at the next election. This is how the senators are held "accountable" which is what makes Democracy work.
If some senators are elected and some appointed, then who are these senators representing? Who are they accountable to and how can they be removed if people perceive they are not doing their job? Do they represent people for one province or are their interests tied to the country as a whole and so they have no loyalties to any people in any province?
Unless a senator has been voted in by the people of a given province then he or she has no loyalties to anyone and the system breaks down.

...and cleanup began immediately. Good to hear the right thing was done.

I'll be very disappointed if the US Ambassador is ready to "officially" sit down with a military leader and discuss relations as if he were an elected leader.

If this is that small, filthy, pig-sty of a hole in the center of town I always have to go through when going to Kalasin and where we have to sit in our bus for 30+ minutes doing absolutely nothing before heading to Kalasin, then it needs to go badly.
The other station we usually stop at very briefly while heading in the opposite direction, back to Pattaya, is in far better condition with more room, cleaner and more open.

Just like the government has one...sure they do!

A nice neat little story wrapping up all the discrepancies and questions. Some of it should be able to be corroborated if you can believe no one has been paid off. Too bad the one person who could corroborate this 100% it is not longer here.

An impressive list of investors indeed.
It would be nice to see excerpts from these company's news conferences stating this in their own words.

you live in a country which finds blatant lying the norm, even when its right in their face they just keep on doing it, they have no shame from top to bottom.
After living here for 6 years I can confirm the absolute accuracy of this statement.

Thank you for some useful comments "Bamnutsak" and "Chakeeoyen".

Very sad. Unfortunately Thailand just doesn't seem to be equipped to handle this type of situation (too busy buying submarines). Maybe the publicity will bring her some much needed cash.

No question that was legal murder. Those police wanted to kill him. It almost looked like they were having fun and then they let the dog go have his fun. The man was picking things up and turning his back on them to leave when they fired that flash whatever the news lady says it was.

Google Voice and Talkatone also offer similar capabilities.
Google Voice was the one I was talking about. It's accessed through GMail and does not seem to be available in Thailand yet. I couldn't get the phone ICON to appear on my chat and when I looked into it Thailand is not listed under the countries this works in right now.
Even if it was working I still prefer MagicAPP as it works just like making a normal call on my phone.
Erawan national park dethrones Khao Yai as Thailand's top national park

When we went there I got the Thai price with my Thai Driver's License, but that was a couple of years ago. They also have a place to hold your dog if you have one. It's a fantastic park and well worth hiking to all the falls. Come dressed to swim, because you will want to take a dip or two in the water. Very, very beautiful.
The only park I could not get the Thai price at with my Thai driver's license was a national park about 60k outside Hua Hin...really ticked me off. If we hadn't come so far and had friends with us I might have turned around and gone home.
