Do a real, statistically correct, survey of the people of this country, especially the poorer people and see what they say.
Corruption at the local level is alive and well in rural Thailand.
-
Very insightfull report; unfortunately it won't happen. This country does not do change very well.
-
This report is a bunch of hogwash. There are most certainly forced at work that are dooming any hopes of reconciliation, but these forces were already in play before Erawan.

If the kid pointed a gun at the cops, then the cops were in the RIGHT! I'm a huge advocate of non-lethal weapons, but when a gun is pointed at you then lethal weapons are perfectly fine to use as defense...IF HE DID INDEED POINT A GUN AT THEM.
Every single cop needs to have vest cameras on them so the truth will always be known. Too many cops lie.

"...Iran will be allowed to use its own inspectors to investigate a site it has been accused of using to develop nuclear arms..."
So the fox is being allowed to inspect its own chicken coop. Brilliant!
-
"...denied the move was discriminatory..."
Of course it is discriminatory. Can't blame 'em.
-
"...bombing was well organized in order to discredit the government..."
"...The bombings were carried out by organized movement so as to intimidate foreign tourists, foreign investors not to come to Thailand..."This is nothing more than being totally self-absorbed and 100% speculation as no one has been caught and interrogated. It's not very responsible or helpful to be putting out statements like this and yet they chastise the social media to not do the same thing they are doing.
-
What I do not understand is what is the point in a bomb like this from a group of people with an agenda such as ISIS if they do not take responsibility for it. How else does their message get out. These terror groups almost always take responsibility.
One reason might be for one group to throw suspicion on another group, but you would think if this were the case the first group would plant or leave clear evidence pointing to the other group. For instance, this could be thought of as the military versus red shirts. There is just too much of a chance this could backfire for them and as a lot of people say, this isn't like Thai people to be this indiscriminately destructive and vicious.
Now someone who is just mad at something or someone and wants revenge would have no reason to take responsibility and no reason to leave evidence pointing to any group or announce some message.

So they will have Aeriel maps of the area made and check for ruins, but not one word about the main concern of the villagers which is pollution. Where is the environmental impact study?
Air pollution, ground water contamination, horrible smells that travel for kilometers?
Doesn't seem like 16 million baht is nearly enough to do a proper job of constructing two waste management plants.
waste management project... is making RDF and compost from the garbage...
Oh well... lets put the garbage outside will we... it will disappear by itself....
I'm not saying don't do anything and I'm not even saying don't build it, but it's going to take a lot more than 16 million baht to do a proper job so there is no pollution and putrid smells are contained. People have a right to expect their villages and neighborhood's won't be turned into places they feel forced to move from. After all, they WERE there first.

"...Mr. Paiboon said that, if reporters are allowed to attend the sessions...they will not receive complete information and the accurate essence of the draft charter..."
How patently pathetic for people in high positions to make this kind of statement. So whose fault would it be that they don't receive complete and accurate information?

"It was thought-out and, you know, I sought God on it."
If that's not prejudicial then I don't know what is.
"...and her son Nathan now works for her. He personally turned away a gay couple last week..."
On top of this she is blatantly practicing nepotism.
Ignorant religious fanatics...all of them. And this is the reason the "founding fathers" tried like hell to separate government and religion. She has no right whatsoever to impose her religious beliefs on anyone in her capacity as a government employee.

A fantastically written article and spot on.
I find this sentence very compelling.
"...The imprisoning of mentally ill people for word crimes is unfortunately not one of the hallmarks of an enlightened society..."

R.I.P young lady.
Was there a railroad crossing gate with flashing lights to warn them?
Was the train blowing it's whistle as a warning as it approaches all crossings?
I seriously doubt it, not in the land of no safety.

No transparency = something to hide.

"...the draft's planned design for the National Strategic Reform and Reconciliation Committee (NSRRC). She claimed it would have more power than the government and Parliament..."
Yes, it's like parent, we know who that is, that wants to let his children go out and play, but he just can't relinquish total control and so Democracy is still just a gleam in someone's eye if this draft becomes law.

Cement trucks seem to be involved in a lot of road deaths.

Are they serious...the one in the middle? They need to raise their standards.
Nevertheless, lucky girl.

Can't quite figure this out as Google doesn't provide live-feeds so the imagery is usually static and dated. For example imagery of my "village" is from 2013. Imagery from Khon Kaen seems to be from July 2014 though there could be newer stuff being uploaded on a regular basis (not sure how often they redo the routes or if they do one area then move on, never to return).
Perhaps he used Google Maps to locate "high end" estates and then physically spied on them to ascertain the habits of the occupants.
Yes, it shows how "un-savvy" the reporter is. You are right. There is no way someone can monitor "activities" as the reporter said...not using Google Maps. The only thing he could do is pick out a high-end home with low security. Updating "street view" in any given city in Thailand could take years from one update of a static picture to the next update.
You are also correct, in that after picking out a home using Google Maps, he would probably drive to the home and monitor it for a several days, but the reporter couldn't get his words untied.
That may be what the reporter meant, but this is what he wrote:
"...Thotsawat admitted to using Google Maps Street View to monitor the activities of residents who had strict schedules living in the estates..."
-
"...The Constitution Drafting Committee (CDC) said the new charter has been modernized..."
If by that they mean, "what is old is new"...well then I guess so.
"...and that the panel considered all comments from every sector when it was being drafted..."
...considered and dismissed.

An article like this is useless and incomplete without some decent high quality pictures of the deadly mushrooms or at least some good illustrations.

What do you expect, it's "Redneck" territory, the land of marrying cousins, where you can find Bubba and Billy-Bob sitting on the old rickety wooden porch with a corn-cob pipe and a jug of moonshine.
-
In an over populated world with "Global Warming" and changing weather patterns this was inevitable and it will only get worse and likely lead to war.
-
"...It's not surprising that Thaksin Shinawatra is critical of the charter draft because he doesn't stand to gain from it..."
...and neither do the majority of the people in the north and northeast.
New charter likely to transform political landscape, if passed

A complete waste of time.
Even if the NRC endorses it, the referendum will fail. It diverges too much from a true Democracy.
