Most previous rounds of fighting between Israel and the Hamas, saw a similar pattern: Hamas attack, Israel responds. Initial mild condemnation of Hamas, with partial international participation, getting more vocal and changing to criticize Israel.

This time is different - at least with the almost wall to wall condemnation of Hamas, and the relative break Israel gets to conduct it's response (the trend will shift, but slower than past times).

I think this represents a realization that this was no ordinary attack, not yet another round of fighting, not something which could be answered by the usual means. A whole lot of foreign (or dual citizenship) citizens were abducted or killed (last tally is over 250). That makes more of an international impact, even without the gruesome manner of the attack.

This was Israel's 9/11. Not just another day in the Middle East. The response would be proportionate to that.

Now, a whole lot can be said about Israel. No angels, sure. But they don't go for the sort of thing done by Hamas on this attack. This goes way beyond what's even remotely acceptable. It's not same same.

    good post

Hamas just did  a modern day pogrom and is dedicated to erasing Israel and killing all Jews so sorry I find your broken record whining about "colonialism" to be clueless and disgusting.

The war now is Israel vs. Hamas in Gaza. Israel doesn't want to "steal" Gaza.

The guy is clue less  wast of time

Well, we have seen and read 78 pages on this conflict. We have discussed the rights and wrongs on both sides. I accept Israel is destroying Gaza and killing Civilians in Gaza. what I don't accept is the posters on here defending Hamas. All the blame is firmly laid at the feet of Hamas if they did not cross the border on Saturday last week this would not be happening today Any members on here who believe the propaganda pumped out by Hamas should take a look at the butchery Hamas inflicted on concert goers, old men and woman and beheading of baby's and Israeli civilians and think twice about condoning Israel for there actions. Until the ground offense has begun I will no longer post on this thread.

well i  totally agree with u  but i dont think you should stop posting there are a lot of posters out there do not know and are mostly ignorant  they need to be taught, people read but only see what they want to see

I'd say the major difference is one thing in happening in our time, other thing in the past.

Do you know what colonisation is  some how i dont think so

is colonisation happing now YES it is colonialism is still not a thing of the past. It continues to oppress developing nations and minority communities globally — from Western Africa to Libya, Palestine to Ukraine, to places like Kashmir that are facing subjugation under military occupation.

In 1947, Arabs comprised about 60% of the total population under the British Mandate. According to the Partition Plan of the same year, the area designated as the Jewish State, the population was divided - 55% Jewish, and 45% Arab. The area allocated to the Arab State was homogeneous with almost no Jews included.

Granted, there were large immigration waves later on, but the account should include the Naqba - hundreds of thousands Arabs were displaced - some ran away, some driven away - the end result being the same, demographically. This significantly changed the demographic balance.

The 6-day war came much later, and had several underlying causes.

wow done your research correct it was my bag should have said the 1948 Arab–Israeli War not the 6 day war

The huge difference between colonisation and Israel is that Jews originally came from Israel .

Jews are going back to the land from where they came from

After WW2 that is When there was a Huge infux of jews  and made the Arabs in a minority which is why  the 6 day war was started and the UN want the 2 partision

    Ha ha the old whataboutism.

Some people on here do not know what colonialism is !! does not much happen now  but its how this world was made Americans Stole ( really dont like the word stole but anyhow) the land from the natves became the USA . Australian the same british famous for it, the dutch with south africa, the french are the same  you can go on with most of the big nations.  so my point is Isreal  is doing the same in a modern enviroment  and modern weapons  and i belive most people are calling ( the pot calling the kettle black )  Isreal  is having a hard time with the Arabs ( nasty people from my experince ) i whole heartedly belive what Isreal is doing and yes in war there is whole heartedly which i am sorry for.

No civilian should have to be given this choice, leave or die. Absolutely criminal behaviour that can only be committed by a terrorist state like Israel.

And what did the white people do to the Abbos in australia  you need to read History

Do you know how big Gaza is? It's the most heavily populated place in the World Danny. Like most of the Hamas fans on here if they are asked a specific question they ignore it because they can't answer. One poster keeps using the term carpet bombing he doesn't even understand what carpet bombing is.

again you need to check yout facts rather than make them up Gaza is NOT the most heavily populated place in the World, it is  third most densely populated in the world.

The terrorist state Israel would never allow the establishment of a Palestinian State because that is counterproductive. They need this situation to continue forever to justify getting billions in aid and support from the western world for them under the pretence of being the protectors of democracy and as the tiny peaceful nation under threat from barbaric neighbors. Establishing a Palestinian state would destroy this big lie.

Hence, Israel has been making excuses and misusing the so-called peace talks process for 30 years (since the Oslo peace agreement) not to leave the occupied territories or allow any chance of a Palestinian State.  To the contrary, they have been confiscating more Palestinian lands and establishing more illegal Jewish settlements in the heart of the west bank and East Jerusalem to make the idea of a Palestinian State practically impossible.

I cannot belive all this BS   its just rubbish from begining to the end where is the proof  of all this  figment of your imagination

You come across as not so smart troll and a bully with unambiguous Zionist views. I will reply not to convince the likes of you as it pointless, but for other members to enrich the debate.

Hamas rightly told Gazans to stay because it's their own land and relocation means another 'Nakba' (Arabic term means disaster when they had to flee a war zone thinking it's a temporarily measure but were never allowed back by Israel) as happened after the wars of 1948 and 1976

Palestinians prefer to stay in their own land and die for it, but most Israelis have a 'Spare' second nationality so they can 'leg it' when things get serious.

so you are a supporter of Hamas by agreeing that the Gazans should stay put  and as for another Nakba that is Only your opinion no prove that it will happen when this is over, are you palestinian because if you are not i dont see how you can speak for them  this post is just rubbish

The salient point would be whether they are deliberately targeted or not. The Hamas attack obviously did. Israel's bombing attacks, while carrying a high death toll, are not quite the same. The opposite of this, by the way, would indiscriminate fire at civilians (as in Hamas rocket launches), again - Israel's bombing attacks do not fall under this category. To add, Hamas digs in among civilian population (not to mention calling them to remain in place, or trying to prevent them from evacuating) this too can be an infraction.

International law about these things is not quite what people expect, sometimes. Unfair, perhaps, tilted to favor more advanced nations, but it is what it is.

International law has no teeth very very hard to prosecute  and is ignored by israel  look at the settements in the west bank as an example

Had Israel never been created by the UN do you think the same problems would have happened? I do not.

Ban Islam!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good luck telling the 2 billion Muslims that their religion is banned. Are you volunteering to tell them?

read your history  The UN did not creat Israel

The United Nations divided Israel and the state of Palestine in 1948 through a plan that never went into full effect because Israel declared independence before the plan could be fully in place. While the UN was going to create Israel, Israel declared independence once the British left.
