  1. Without our smartphones, where would we be......me for my part here. Those were times in Thailand. When the smile was still real. Sending a fax home for monthly money transfers. If (not often) it is necessary to call home, a trip to TOT and pay in cash or later for a card with a prepaid amount and into a phone booth. No waste or stressing life checking for SMS or missed calls, and the Internet hardly have been heard about. When the only coffee was O-liang and Kopi. The real times. Oh, I miss those times Felt
  2. The ambassador answers about the income confirmation We got an interview with the ambassador during the May 17 National day celebration in Pattaya, when she came to give the speech for the day. Most of the talk was about the issue of the income confirmation, which we are getting a lot of inquiries from readers about at the moment. The embassy has announced that they will stop issuing income confirmation to Norwegians living in Thailand from May next year. "This was made known to Norwegians in Thailand via a Facebook message from you on 29 April, while the embassy's ordinary premises were still closed after the earthquake. Did this have anything to do with the earthquake on March 28? "No, this has been planned for several years already. Helle adds regarding the earthquake that it was a frightening experience for the employees. She herself was not present on March 28, but the employees experienced major damage to the premises and the building swayed heavily, she says. She wants some sympathy for the employees, who had to work from home and from the ambassador's residence in the period until the embassy's premises reopened on 7 May. She says that they made a great effort during this period. The building the embassy is located in is old, and there was ambiguity about the building standards that had been used. The ambassador did not want to take any chances until the building was declared safe. "So the end of the issuance of income confirmation has to do with resources?" "Yes, we have a certain number of people and a certain number of resources. It must be used for prioritised and statutory tasks. – How about hiring another intern or a Thai employee, to take care of income verification, and instead increase the fee from 1000 to 2000 Baht? "There are many things you would like to do, but you can't hire new people every time. We have to stick to statutory tasks and to other important tasks in the consular field. And income confirmations are not a consular task. The ambassador says that this is a relationship between the Thai authorities and the individual Norwegian here. She points out that Thailand generally wants to attract resourceful foreign nationals, in order to increase income for the country, and that the country facilitates for many people to live here. – Are you aware that many Norwegians do not live here all year round, but perhaps only 6-7 months, and that it then becomes problematic to have to transfer at least 65,000 Baht every month throughout the year to qualify for a residence permit? "Yes, we are aware of this and other conditions, we have discussed this matter with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for several years. "What will it take for you and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to turn around in this case?" "That probably won't happen," says Helle. "This decision has been made. But she adds when asked that in general in life, you can never say never. – Does the embassy read the questions that appear on Facebook messages you post and have you considered answering these questions? "Yes, we read Facebook messages and other inquiries to the embassy. But we do not respond to individual cases on Facebook. "But what about general questions?" "We don't do that. But when we see that there are certain topics that occupy many people, we try to inform about this through posts so that this reaches as many people as possible. We also did the same when it comes to income confirmations. The ambassador wants to point out two important points for Norwegians who come to Thailand. "Even though Thailand is regarded as a peaceful holiday country, you should still use travel registration. The scheme, which is voluntary, makes it easier for the Foreign Service to establish contact in the event of a crisis situation. The second thing she points out is that tourists must be very careful to make sure that they are covered by travel insurance throughout their stay. She says that there are a lot of traffic accidents in Thailand, and many Norwegians are exposed to it.
  3. Viktor Frankl, an Austrian neurologist and psychiatrist, is known for his unique approach to psychology, which he developed through his gruesome experiences as a prisoner in Nazi concentration camps during World War II. His most famous work, *Man's Search for Meaning*, explores how human survival is closely linked to the ability to find meaning in life's challenges. Frankl's philosophy, known as logotherapy, is based on the idea that life has a meaning regardless of the circumstances we face. Frankl's philosophy can be summarized in three central principles: Freedom to choose: Humans always have the ability to choose how they respond to situations, even in the most desperate circumstances. Meaning of life: Each individual has their own unique meaning of life, which can be discovered through experiences, relationships, and inner values. Living for something: To achieve a sense of meaning, individuals must live for something bigger than themselves, whether it is a cause, another person, or an ideal. These principles are of great relevance in today's society, where many people experience stress and uncertainty.
  4. Thank you for replying and, no thanks I don't need anyone to hold my hand. Regarding, attitude well let's stop it there or this tread will be closed. Felt
  5. Not to hijack the subject in this thread, just a question. Is it legal to use an agent if you have, included the finances and all the other "copies", but are, to put it mildly, fed up with sitting in front of an authoritarian who is never helpful with applications but hides behind a uniform and uses it to show condescension towards applicants? Or does the applicant still have to show up in their office when using an agent? Felt
  6. Do you mean the 12 - months statement (which in my experience take a week +- to obtain from Bangkok Bank) or do you mean monthly credit advice for each and every month of incoming money (if using monthly transfer)? Felt
  7. Thank you for the reply. 🤞Hope my IO follow their own rules Felt
  8. Question⁉️From what I understand in relation to the Immigration Act, 800K have to be deposited in a Thai Bank 2 months before extension based on retirement. At the same time, I see that some mention 3 months and even 12 months have been mentioned. What do you do if the respective immigration office says 12 months. Do you give up and apply for another type of visa or do you proceed with your case to higher officers. Adding that this is not a first-time extension, but a first-time extension based on 800K but at the same Immigration office. Previously used income verification from embassy. Btw, will it as example only be possible to transfer enough pension to a savings account monthly so it 2months before application is 800K plus and use that as proof of income or do it have to be a separate account from savings? Thanks Felt
  9. 👴I don't really remember but a year ago maybe..... Felt
  10. Thanks, but unfortunately, I don`t think so. I have approximately US 45K annually in pension and a health insurance here which cover approximate 3mill Thb but no investment in Thailand and I guess it stops there. I have healthy savings abroad, but they will be there to my demise. Felt
  11. Can really wonder but I guess they would be unemployed without all the "#¤¤¤#"#¤ %& Bangkok Bank account for 28-years, paid taxes on more than 800k annually the last 15 years documented annually from Revenue dep., with tax payment certificate and certificate of residence, and retirement extension for 14 years. Sorry for the rant, but what kind of transition? Felt
  12. But does this also apply to extension based on retirement? I can see in the text above reason for application, documents required, and procedures that retirement is mentioned but the rest seems to be application based on marriage Felt
  13. Due to Iron deficiency and on Iron supplements I often get constipation. Where do you buy these from? Thanks Felt
  14. This is not my first extension based on retirement but for the last 14 extensions I have used income letter / affidavit from Embassy but no more an option from next year so how will that be then Felt

  16. Have to agree with that statement and IMO Immigration should not be under RTP. Felt
  17. Thanks for the information, but I think I will follow DrJack54's information regarding monthly transfer and 12-month account statement, summary of foreign transfers as well as update of current balance and if that is as Drjack54 say can be prepared up to 7 days before application at Immigration. This will actually be very much as what I provide revenue dep. annually. And if any great change with the Immigration regulations I can always choose the 800k in bank method. Felt
  18. I've only been to Australia once, and that is almost two decades ago. But I was impressed by their knowledge and skill in guiding people in their own country when I asked for directions, whether it was driving directions or places you simply have to see when there. Felt
  19. Up to 7 days before was good to know then 2-3 days before hopefully are accepted. In Bank book the code says FTT and on Statement it says Foreign T/T (Bangkok bank). Felt
  20. Thanks for that, then I know what to prepare. Felt
  21. Thanks. For this year I can and will use embassy letter. However, should I inform IO already this year that I plan to use transfers for next year's extension and maybe show them what I mean with a copy of the 12-month bank statement I already have from paying taxes in March and an updated bank book? Hmm..I never update that book so maybe an idea to start now. Felt
  22. I`m in the same situation as OP and have used income letter from embassy and I have been doing monthly transfers for around 75K for years and use 12 months statement from bank to show these transfers when paying tax to Thai revenue dep. Could I use the same statement for Immigration and retirement extension? What other proof from bank would they most likely want. I plan on 800k in bank but not happy to do that so if I could use monthly transfers, I would prefer that. Felt
