  1. "plus" if you think the article is a complete waste of time

I was referring to Steve's post.

As for the experiment itself: "I'm not against the villagers or their money, I'm arguing against people who make mountain out of a molehill."

If you want to discuss the benefits of Santisuk's currency, why don't you reply to post #44 instead, earlier on the page

    http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/Thai-Village...93#entry2456093

my reply was for you for the continual negative throw away lines in all your replies thats all.

  2. as an aside you would be due severance pay if your firm(having written you a thai contract under thai law)terminated your contract(that is they terminated your employment)and you would be due 2 or 3 months severance pay.But what a firm will usually do is continue to reduce your salary to such a point where you say "enough is enough" and tender your resignation out of disgust at such treatment which then gives them the way out not to have to pay any severance pay at all.

  3. my g/f has been working for her firm for over 12 months, and they have cut all their employees salary,my g/f by 40% too.the contract is written under thai law...................but from what ive heard and seen, thai contracts are not worth the paper they are written on.so in answer to your question, yes i think they can do this and you have to like it or lump it.thais not the west where you have have legal recourse.

  4. just love island life, came for a visit for 1 week back in early 2007.and stayed.what i like about samui is the fact that it has all the amenities like hospitals, communications as in airport, nightlife if you want it and quiet beaches when you want to escape.have found the locals friendly and long term farangs friendly too,so inspite of some drawbacks like infrastructure and some very unclean beachs for me the place is perfect.

Have travelled to krabi(bit too quiet)to phuket(too expensive)..............but have n't really looked at tao and kpn,but not having an airport or good medical facilities would probably put me off,but i should visit and check out.

  5. "plus" if you think the article is a complete waste of time why keep posting?some of us here could see the merit of this idea of a community currency, and there fore liked to post encouragement to it..........knocking for knocking sake is small minded,as you seem to think there's no merit, and have nothing positive to add why dont you just move on and find another topic that you might enjoy!.................happy new year.

  6. Disagree that there will be more drunks on the road. The bars are doing poorly because there's not the quantity of high spending customers. Allowing them to open later only spreads those customers more thinly. Okay there will be a few that are encouraged to stay later because of the music but the bottom line is in times of drought there is only so much water. The only way to make that water go further is to reduce the numbers drinking from the trough.

So I agree with the bottom line : It'll solve nothing.

or reduce opening and closing hours, hence cutting overheads.not practical i know.

  7. amazing thailand..................if its illegal to take statues of buddha outside thailand why are shops in tourist areas allowed to sell them?

It is not illegal to take them out, you just need some papers to do it legally. Like a little passport for your Buddha.

It has been the law for decades as Naan stated and has been explained in all decent guide books for decades also, so it is quite common knowledge.

so another visit to samui immigration!!!!!!!!!!!11
  8. - every time asking 5.000 baht for a visa that costs 1.900 (maybe that is the reason they behave like that: I refuse to do so)

Are they still getting away with that?

Good for you for not playing along. But now you know the reason for your problems. :o

For everyone reading this. All extensions cost 1,900 Baht

yes they are still doing that.

  9. Just looked through this thread with my mother. The idea of a life history lesson would suit her. Maybe also a little about living in New York City. She got a great laugh out of the discussion about the immigration aspects, especially the "headline". What a wonderful forum this is! If anyone has additional ideas, we are very happy to hear them. Personally, I dont think anyone would object to my mother going to a thai classroom and presenting her story for an English lesson.

the thai children would be intrigued to learn why such an elderley person would travel so far to live in a foreign country, that in itself would be a good start.as another poster suggested though,a good place to start would be thai language classes so she could communicate a little with the locals, that would set a good impression, and while your mum goes to thai language classes you could perhaps find some native english language teachers at your local schools and suss out whether they think schools might be interested.

  10. if on a retirement visa, seasoned money in account 3 months prior to extension there's little they can do to refuse your extension, one would think, but often its just an unfortunate thing that sometimes they just do not like our face,or they're having a bad day themselves....................but yes join the club, happens to us all from time to time...............and yes go ahead and let off steam.............good for the soul!

  11. yes sounds like he was angry cos you were in the overtaking lane and he wanted to go faster than you.I very rarely see road rage here but scary indeed.what to do,apart from going slower and staying in the left hand lane.alternatively buy a kevlar vest and a glock and learn in thai "go ahead make my day"

  12. fred you've not replied to your topic since midday, maybe you are busy, but some of us would be interested to know your location and maybe throw business your way.I hope your silence does not reflect your visa status here however.up to you if you'd rather have the privacy.all the best.

  13. Hi,

I have check at Watsons and Boots in Jungceylon but could not find any.

Anyone know where to get some ?

    Thanks

as i'm on samui i'm not a lot of good to you,but i've usually found them in local thai pharmacies, cheaper than the usual boots.

  14. sorry plus cant help where to purchase beer lao BKK.but have to say its a good brew. The lite beers like san miguel etc taste thin in texture to me and i miss the sugar...............

  15. my reading of the OP is upon re-entry the immigration at the airport cancelled his B visa cos he forgot to get a re entry permit in his PP before he left thailand and gave him a 30 day visa.So now he's asking the quickest way to get his B visa back either going out of the country during his 30 day stamp,or getting the B back inside thailand.

2 years ago the same happened to me only with my retirement extension.immigration told me i had to outside the country get a90 day tourist visa cos i had to re season my money.

  16. yes, berba only scored the winner against mid to keep us on pace with LP for the league title... perhaps babyface will do the same to keep you boys up on the last game of the season :o

I'll let the facts speak for themselves.
