  1. Ahhhh, Samui.

I first went to Samui in 2003. I was supposed to be on Samui for 3 weeks, but I stayed for 7 months. I loved it, a little paradise island.

Fast forward to my return visit in 2008. Oh, how it had changed! More of everything and a different feel to the island.

This year I have been for 2 holidays on Samui and I still love it. Sure it's not the island it was 10 years, its not better or worse, just a bit different, but it is still my favourite place in Thailand.

You guys that live there are very fortunate indeed.

we are indeed lucky to live here and have to keep reminding ourselves, inspite of often grumbling about power, water and electric and too many cars on the island.nice post mjj.

  2. when visiting pattaya i like to to soi chaiyaphum just of soi bukhow by oasis go go bar.in the afternoon through to late the bars there are always very busy and until 8pm you get 2 for the price 1 so i'm drinking tiger beer for 45 baht.at that junction with soi diana its always mad with traffic and people and some good value food places around there too.

  3. most tourist destinations get spoiled in the end with overdevelopment because there never was a plan

and i cant see anything changing here to make things better.

These last few years has seen a sudden increase in people wanting to live here, witness the increase in traffic on the ring road, the unavailability of long term accomodation and it all spells overcrowding in the future as more and more buildings will be going up.

the roads have been improved, but still electricity and garbage collection remain a problem

for those of us who live here and like living here we just have like it or lump it or move somewhere else.

with this accomodation problem we could see rental costs going up,and if they ever made it easy for foreigners to own land outright in their own name anywhere in thailand we could eventually see prices sky rocket to western levels.I hope i never see this happen.

  4. Another racist anti-farang thread which just demonstrates the insecurities of a White Knight.

    Yawn....

I realise this topic might be a liitle uncomfortable for some.

not at all,i think its an open honest thread,if some people cant take it then they can just look at another topic.

  5. That all sounds rather sad. I see more of the opposite from mixed couples living in Thailand. Guys who seem to have been voluntarily castrated when they moved in with their girlfriend and are no longer able to come out for a drink without their other half tagging along to keep an eye on them.

The version I hate is when the guy gets a phone call every 10 minutes when he is out with friends. Switching off doesn't work because she will turn up 20 minutes later to find out what's wrong with his phone.

Tell me about it. And the guys it happens to always seem to be normal, healthy males - no clue that they are about to turn into a big jessie as soon as they start dating an evil Thai lady (*joke*). My other half never seems to care where I go or what I do when I go out - which I suppose should worry me a little!

yes,she either trusts you or she does n't care.I'd like to think the former.

  6. you get good care and bad care everywhere.I went to bangkok pattaya hospital with a serious problem, their answer was to open me up.I went for a second opinion, phoned a hospital in australia and they were horrified at the thai diagnosis. So i also flew back to australia for a day procedure.after the op. i talked to my naturopath who laughed and said she coud have fixed my problem up with mineral tablets that would have done the healing.Yes i know dam_n alternative medicine what do they know jrtmedic!

  7. SBC, I would recommend a mixture of organically grown malt (from barley) and hops together with added natural yeast and sugars, fermented for a few hours and then taken by mouth.

Not sure which pharmacy sells these products but they are available 'over the counter' in many of the local Bangrak hostelries......... or maybe you have found this out already and that is why you have a toxic run down liver.

  8. Thank you. I am still somewhat bewildered!

How does this condition present? What are the signs/symptoms? Is blood chemistry altered by this condition or maybe Liver Function Tests reveal some abnormality, if so what?

I remain unclear about how this condition is diagnosed and by who --------Is this something a GP is familiar with or does it require consultation with a Specialist?

the signs or symptoms are usually tiredness, especially around the eyes, headaches, irritability, unable to concentrate, also a white slime develops on the tongue especially first thing in the morning,i usually scrape off with a tea spoon.I am awaiting a liquid detox to arrive from a naturopath in australia which usually does the trick and fixes my liver up,however its taking a long time to arrive and i am looking at sourcing solutions here in thailand and thought of using thai or chinese herbs

normal blood tests for liver function does n't show up anything, but an overloaded liver can lead to sluggish blood going around your body and can even poison the blood stream.do not get alarmed many people suffer these symptoms without knowing what the cause is,as i said its not life threatennig but does need to be treated.

my liver is not strong,as a kid i had juandice which leaves the liver weakened.

  9. If you are in Bangkok head down to Chinatown I am sure you will find a few down there.

yes i may have to come up to bangkok to source it.

If you want to clean out the liver you can also use dandelion tea and fresh veggie juices. You cant beat fresh veggie juices. For liver detox. Many recipes on the net. You could also order livitron from mediherb this has milk thistle and very good quality and plenty of it.

    thank you tolley.

i do juce vegies, carrot, beetroot and celery, they will cleanse the body generally but are not specific to dislodging toxins from the liver, however i will try dandelion tea.i tried milk thistle tablets,a range from blackmore's i get from boots but they did n't help.i just think i needed different herbs as well, and i find liquid form better than tablets

  10. jrtmedic,an overloaded toxic liver is exactly what it says and it happens when the liver has too many toxins to clear and it needs help to get rid of them through the intestines and finally the bowels.toxins are free radicals and can damage your cells.this is usually caused through the over indulgence of alcohol, fried foods and processed foods.suggest you google it to find out more.not life threatening in itself but if not treated it can cause damage to other organs.western herbs such as dandelion help to shift the toxins out of the liver, other herbs help repair the damage.hope this helps your enquiry.
