  1. It’s perhaps optimistic to call this an initiative at this stage. But anything that brings drunk driving and how to curb it to the fore, is a good thing. Unfortunately they just haven’t thought this through and it’s a single standing idea rather than a comprehensive package of measures to truly clamp down on drunk driving. I give this a 1 out of 10 for content and probable effectiveness, 10 out of 10 for at least talking about the issue.
  2. Surprised that you say that. It seems to be a rite of passage for Thai youths in my area to do wheelies on a daily basis. Haven’t seen adults do it. And foreigners seem to focus on speeding. But wheelies, Thai youths usually two to a bike, all the time.
  3. So far, my claims through Bangkok bank insurance have been paid. That is about 60k for storm damage under house insurance, treatment at Bangkok Bank hospital when my daughter fractured her back, a small operation on my knee under medical insurance and just recently treatment at Bangkok hospital for cuts to my arm that needed 14 stitches. The only issue I have had was for follow up treatment to my knee when I was overseas. They didn’t pay out and didn’t say why, but it was a small amount for dressing a wound. I think they basically didn’t believe me as the treatment was in Lithuania. i had a couple of motor claims that paid out ok. Different companies. Thats over the course of 20 years.
  4. I don’t know about university degree, I’d settle for them having a driving licence!
  5. Although I notice that the article has now been edited to put the two moves into chronological order.
  6. “The loud noise and high speed, combined with wet road conditions, led to the accident.” High speed, yes. Wet road, yes. Loud noise? Got my doubts about that one
  7. Probably Botox or whatever junk that they inject in their lips 👄
  8. 120 taxi drivers so far. It would be nice to know how many drivers there are in total, whether this training is mandatory and how many drivers will be trained per week, penalties for those who don’t attend etc etc. The cynic in me says two weeks in this will be quietly forgotten about and the original 120 might limp up to 240. This safety PR blitz ( like the high fives for dealing with a malfunctioning escalator at suvarnabhumi airport) is all very well, but stickers and news releases have to be backed up with action, consistent action.
  9. “The captain of the Air India flight opted to continue and proceed with the flight to New Delhi” “Responding swiftly, Thailand's Aeronautical Radio informed airport authorities, prompting the pilot to seek an urgent landing.” is it just me or are these two statements contradictory?
  10. I believe that there is a case that is made citing the extra costs the state incurs dealing with accident victims who don’t wear a helmet, the trauma for medical staff who have to deal with head injuries and of course the relatives and friends of people who suffer head injuries. Not to say that the traffic offenses that you list should not be followed up on as well.
  11. Never had a problem with them. Never needed to make a claim though 😂
  12. I applied via AA insurance brokers while seated at my house in Phuket. Took less than an hour to swap e mails, send them copies of my passport and receive the policy certificate in my inbox. i believe AA insurance have several offices throughout the country. I originally contacted them via a recommendation on here.
  13. A need for what people? People who knowingly break the current law, thereby getting Thai immigration all stirred up, such that law abiding people are forced to jump through more hoops? Those people? If Thai people want to be lazy and backward, that’s up to them. Farang just need to stay within whatever the laws are. At least this is one case where it can’t be said that the 60 day visa free has caused it!
  14. “The doctor involved urged a reconsideration of such severe punishments,” Ya think?
  15. I’m not sure if you are joking or not. there was the proposal that all tourists would be forced to buy travel insurance as part of the cost of entry to Thailand. I think it was shelved because of a concern that it would reduce tourist numbers?
  16. I just renewed my annual worldwide travel insurance with AIG. 3,838 baht pa. Includes repatriation in case of accident. Higher plans available with the top one circa 10k baht. i mean, it’s very affordable
  17. I’d be very surprised if red flags weren’t flying. They pretty much are all along Nai Harn, Kata and Karon beaches everyday at this time of year. People think they can just wade in up to their waist and then, boom, they get carried out to sea. RIP
  18. Blah blah blah. Name a subject, any subject, and there will be a Thai politician instructing aggressive action be taken.
  19. Google iver vs ( insert any medical condition here) and there will be studies posted online.
  20. Nothing. I don’t mean doing nothing wrong. I mean doing nothing.
  21. How easy would it have been to look away and walk past, maybe muttering about dirty foreigners. But no, as with many previous occasions, Thai people have to spend many minutes filming something that they claim offends them, but out of choice seem capable of viewing for quite a long time. And then post it online so that other people can be offended! Strange logic indeed
  22. As a Singaporean, I can tell you all about aggressive initiatives to combat dengue. Try leaving a saucer of water outside your apartment door in Singapore and see what wrath is directed toward you. I don’t know what Thailand thinks it is going to do, but aggressive initiatives to combat dengue ain’t it.
  23. I’d say 90% of the transactions that I carry out in Thailand involve some kind of consumer misrepresentation of some kind or other. There is no effective enforcement of consumer protections, if there even are any, other than raising the profile of scams on media like tik tok. so buyer beware is the only response.
  24. I’m still waiting for the actual byd electrician to arrive and give me a quote. If it’s a crazy price or I don’t have confidence in what he is saying, fall back is to take delivery of the charger and have another company do the install.
