  1. Bearing in mind the current trend toward visa free entry to LOS in pursuit of ever more “tourists”, I doubt this will ever progress beyond indignant righteousness expressed online. frankly, I personally can’t be bothered to rise to the bait of most of what is expressed in the article.
  2. “On Friday, National Police Chief General Torsak Sukwimol moved to try to limit reputational damage to the Royal Thai Police. “ he has a pretty big job on his hands. I’ve never heard anyone praise police honesty, thai or farang.
  3. Stay for immeasurable time? pretty sure that most foreigners have to go through visa hoops to do that. You know, the ones where you have to hold a cash deposit in a thai bank, take photos of yourself in your own home, photocopy quite a few documents and THEN, even when you have a visa to stay, not immeasurable time but 1 year, report to immigration every three months to report your whereabouts, or report to immigration if you spend even one night outside of your own home. you know, those kind of hoops.
  4. Can’t see that the thai government will make much of this. They want S Koreans to visit Thailand as tourists so won’t want to start a tit for tat war ( no pun intended) in any case, what does the thai government care if a few Thais get treated badly trying to enter SKorea? There’s no money to be made in objecting and if the Koreans did a deep search for Thais working illegally in SKorea, they wouldn’t come up empty
  5. Why down the toilet? Do you have some metrics that support that comment? leaving aside the carnage caused by rampant gun ownership, the obvious racism evident in some states, the damage to democracy caused by the electoral college system of voting; a number of the usual metrics utilized to rank a country actually make the United States seem to be doing rather well. Perhaps that’s why the stock market is at record levels (if stock investing is a barometer of economic metrics)
  6. Do they know how stupid this sounds? I suppose not, or they wouldn’t do it. unless of course they are right and it’s only on Valentine’s Day that pedos come out to play.
  7. I haven’t seen much said about the process of segregating overseas income from capital and then only remitting capital into Thailand. The same process that non UK domicile people use for UK tax purposes. Rishi Sunaks wife being a prime example until it was highlighted when he became PM. Presumably that works for Thai tax purposes if the overseas accounts show clear segregation of capital and income? Although presuming things may be a tad risky
  8. The one sure thing I’ve learned in Thailand is that bad stuff happens all the time and it will never stop because there is little to no enforcement of laws unless a case is deemed expedient in terms of prosecution, ie enforcement benefits someone involved in the enforcement process. what do the police care about the well being of the little girl? Nothing, she’s a nobody and therefore they don’t care.
  9. If it is income accumulated since 1st Jan this year, I believe the answer is yes. If it was accumulated in prior years, no, it will be treated as capital.
  10. “a permanent visa-free policy“ What is a permanent visa free policy? Entry without requiring a visa until such time as the policy is changed? Free tourist entry visa, good for 90 days? Permanent entry visa free of charge. some combination of the above? I’m unsure why any of them would cause the condo market to boom. It was easy enough for Chinese to get a tourist visa previously and I don’t think the requirements for any other visas have changed. But hey ho, any reason to talk up the housing market is a good reason
  11. Actually, I don’t see that the passengers post defamed the airline at all. If anything it gave them publicity for taking the correct decision in the interests of safety. I wasn’t aware of the incident before, but I am now and am impressed that they put safety first. So where is the defamation?
  12. Should there be a trial first? And then if there is a guilty verdict, mete out your punishment? it’s sort of the process many civilized countries follow.
  13. Who knows, who cares. Arguments over a few hundred baht isn’t really big enough news to get me working out the ins and outs of the details.
  14. Can’t see how a drivers licence or pink id card will help catch overstayers, but oh well.
  15. Yeah, just like they announced you couldn’t renew your motor tax till all fines were paid. And then it was you wouldn’t be able to renew your drivers licence before all fines were paid. the biggest surprise is that any of those cameras are still working. Most don’t seem to do so. At least I haven’t had any speeding tickets for the last 5 years.
  16. Not sure that people bang on about them. I do have one. It was refused as ID for a flight from Udon to Phuket, thai driving licence, no problem. Maybe because the pink card has my name written in Thai and the boarding pass in English.
  17. Please tell me you are joking. Those support lines have been useless every time I have tried them.
  18. I can’t see how combining the ownership of two existing operations creates anything for the consumer. Savings in admin costs for the companies, sure. But no extra routes, no additional services and, I venture to say it, no cost savings passed on. As someone who regularly flys between Phuket and Udon Thani, I really can’t understand why airasia either flies every day, as the have been doing, or flies not at all, as they seemingly are doing from the middle of next month. And it’s not just because of low season/high season. They flip flop on the route regularly. Annoyingly, they never announce the changes, it’s always necessary to hunt around on their clunky website to try and find out what happened to flights on the route. as for getting a refund….forgeddaboutit.
  19. Sometimes you have to use common sense. I’d be happy to take a bet that once his year is up, he will be seen in public and not have to spend time in a hospital. but you continue to believe your “facts” if you wish.
  20. Honestly, whatever next. Soon they will have signs saying “Beware of uneven pavements”. dont people realize it’s a jungle out there? You can’t expect the Thai authorities to create a safe urban environment, thats clearly not their job.
  21. Riiiight, the pythons got them. No one wanted to steal the valuable animals anyway.
  22. Can’t go to a couple of my favorite restaurants now because they each have a pot shop nearby and the stuff stinks. It’s worse than sitting near a tobacco smoke if you are a non smoker.
  23. Any word from TAT on how the quality/family tourist initiative is going and whether opening bars till 4am has had the intended effect in terms of attracting those two tourist groups?
  24. It’s probably true to say that allowing a small dip below 800k intraday, should not matter. But equally, allowing an exception costs the immigration officers money. They know that if they refuse you, you will go to an agent and pay a fee. Part/most of that fee will end up in the immigration officers pension fund. to allow an exception is to do themselves out of money. But you might as well try. Nothing lost but a few hours.
