Learned a really cheap lesson today. Went to drop my girlfriend off at the school off soi 25 in Naklua today. For some reason they were closed so we left to go grab some lunch. We got down to around soi 27 when I felt this unusual sensation of my 5 baht chain being pulled really hard against my neck (not snatched). It took me a half second to figure out what the hel_l was going on and off course my girlfriend was yelling. I ended up grabbing one end of the chain and my girlfriend grabbed the other and pushed the guys hand away.

He hauled butt and we saw there was a second guy on a motorbike. We chased them down to the roundabout where he went left and lost him around the Sai 3 red light. We managed to get his license (only the numbers though) and his clothing/helmet description, but it'll probably amount to nothing.

I've been coming here for around 15 years and have had nothing like that happen before. I'm usually fairly cautious, and had I been checking my mirrors like I usually do, I would have seen him. Oh well, it all worked out ok.

I bought the 5 baht chain because the clasp would be hard to break in case some like that ever happened. The chain itself is a tight weave so really doesn't look that big. Even the policeman I talked to had a hard time believing it was 5 baht. Anyway..... the clasp held, the chain broke in the middle.

The other lesson I learned today was to be more level headed. Instead of seeing the read mist and only being focused on catching this guy, I should have been more focused on his details while he was close enough where I could see everything clearly.

Feel really lucky though, certainly could have turned out differently.

Lesson learned though, it ain't worth it. If I can't wear a necklace out in public for fear of getting clubbed or pulled off my motorbike, theres no point in having it. I'll just sell it... not like I"m going to lose any money

actually the best special armed services in the world are the Israeli special army, they were trained by the British SAS and they have been fighting for real longer than anyone can remember. they are untouchable

1 x 60 watt tube (once started) will run for over 16 hours on ONE unit.

..... and those small size tubes they tend to use are low wattage.

and also you tend to get through a lot more bulbs here, they seem to blow quicker hehe here we go again

I use Thailand's EMS to send items regularly between Thailand and New Zealand and have found the service to be flawless, both in terms of delivery speed (3-4 days), and online tracking to the final destination. I can't speak for sending to other countries though.

For reasons I won't go into, I can no longer play squash and football and am a similar age to you (53).

I spent quite a lot of time trying out various fitness regimes that I could replace these activities with, to at least keep up a level of fitness.

I soon realised that if you do not really enjoy doing something you grow to hate it and won't do it for long. So try some activities to see if you like them first. So in your case go to a gym for a month to see how it 'feels' using the equipment

If you find some equipment you quite like, then you may be able to buy it for your home.

Also, take a note of all your measurements, including weight, so you can be encouraged by the weight loss and better shape you achieve.

I settled on the following which I have done now for the last 3 years and still enjoy.

So each day I:

- Walk for at least an hour

- I bought some dumbells (just 2 at 6 KG and do several hundred lifts on each arm)

- I bought a mat a mat and a device I put behind my head to do a hundred sit-ups a day

- use every opportunity to walk - ie: park as far as I can from the supermarket entrance, walk up escalators etc...

- I bought some hand 'squeezers' and do hundred a day on each hand

Good luck with it. Obviously your diet is imporatrant as well - but you know that anyway

It is up to each individual, and i was merely adding to this discussion stating that i (and a lot of others i have seen) enjoy eating at Neeroys & seasider, i agree they are not posh, but the food is nice and its clean with good service. I thought that this forum and this particular thread was for people to help the guy take his mum somewhere for nice food, i didnt think it was for slagging off sois and particular restaurents !!! There are hundreds of eating places in Pattaya - its up to each individual.

There are so many different kinds of people and when you match them up in combinations of two and more it's some factor of 6,000,000,000 that I don't know how many zeros to add. For you maybe these things are true – but they are not necessarily some constant of the universe like gravity. (Which I guess if I were an astrophysicist might be even malleable but that's another subject I know even less about.)

My point is this: take a moment with that oversize cranium of yours and consider that your values and perceptions might not be applicable to all people. There is nothing wrong with your values and perceptions – they are yours and stick by them. I try, like any flawed person, to stay tuned to my true north – and that's a learning process. What I like, where I take pleasure, what the meaning and experience of love is – these are all very personal to me and a journey of discovery to this day. Why all this talk about airconditioner usage when debating telaksslave's original assertion that electricity is double the price of UK. How much you use is totally irrelevant in this argument - the price per unit is what is important. Using more will simply put your bill up, and could make it several times a bill in UK without taking into account the amount of electricity bought for that price.

Does anyone have any actual figures for electricity prices per unit in UK, as opposed to 'my bill is/was' sort of tales. Then perhaps we can figure out whether telaksslave's initial statement was right or wrong before he back-pedalled with this quote:-
