  1. Friends tell of a stall on a local market that sells a plug- in device which claims to reduce your electricity bills.

Has anyone on the Forum any knowledge or experience of such a device and does it work ,how effective is it, and is it legal ??

    Keep the A/C's Burning.

ive been told that, if its true tell me where, its a bug to me that electricity is double the price compared to the UK and please, i dont want some blithering idiot telling me if you dont like go back to the UK :o

  2. At Noong Nooch everyone pays to get in. You were not a taxi or tour bus. If you live in Thailand you could have shown them your Thai drivers license and gotten in for the sa,e price as A Thai. Remember, in Thailand a smile goes a long way. Confrontation will get you nowhere.

    Barry

that is totally incorrect i have dropped people off a number of times and i have explained in a polite manner what i was doing and it has never been a problem for me.

  3. I am putting this in the general forum so as to reach maximum audience. It pertains to the following thread in the health forum about a long time farang resident of Thailand with no family/apparanelty no close friends or partner who is seriously disabled post-stroke and unable to care for himself.

This is the link to the whole sad story:

    http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=195195

If anyone knows of a nursing home or long-term care type place -- not an acute care hospitalm but someplace that cares for the elderly or disabled and is reasonably decent and suitable for a farang, please post or PM

Personally don't know of any but hopefully someone out there does...

ive seen 1 just outside pattaya, but i dont know what it is like ?? its towards laem chabang

  4. what are you talking about this is common in thailand a guy driving on a motor bike a few years ago was driving along sukomvit and went into what he thought was a puddle and there was live electric cables in a metre deep hole " killed instantly, i know these 4 guys who went out on there last night here just yesterday and there was 1 less going home to newcastle today 30 years old the thais dont care at all. the very least the corupt pattaya city hall should do is heavily sue the electric company and pay all the costs to this young mans family for the costs of taking the body back, but as usual the thais cant see further than there noses = the lining of there pockets

I don't think that this is at all "common" in Thailand or can you prove me wrong? Dropping into a 1 metre deep hole, wet or dry, with or without the extra hazard of exposed live electrical cables, can be terminal for any motorcycle rider.

the point is why dont the electricity board claim responsibility, that metre whole they dug had no danger signs and it was not cordoned off

  5. i want to get a work permit to work with my wife, i know about an extra employee if you get a work permit with your wife, but i think i will try and apply for it with my wife, so she can check everything is correct, i dont see why i should line a lawyers pocket with no guarantee that its correct anyway, does anyone know where the office is to apply, i know its not city hall, ive been there and they were about much help as a chocolate fireguard

I think your find applying for your first Farang work permit is not that easy, a lot of paperwork needed, not just a matter of turning up at the labour office with a few papers, complicated!!!

i guessed that tell me anything thats easy and straight forward here :o

  6. RIP mate.

They will never solve this issue. A new surprise every year.... :o

The truth is, if they don't get a kick ass every day they won't do anything. Oh...sorry I am a rude farang, not understanding the Thai style, but many things are very well overdue now.

(The reason why I am angry like that is that this stupid thing can happen to anyone...when walking home after heavy rain and flooding....)

im on ur side of the fence m8,

  7. some Thai wines are drinkable.

And if in the area, at B500 per bottle from a vineyard there is there is value when compared to prices of the international wines (and Thai wines) in the shops.

I bet a 400B bottle of Frontera Cabernet (Chile) will taste better than any Thai wine and is accordingly a far better value.

you owe me 400 baht :D pm me and you can send it to my account :o

  8. English Tourist electrocuted as he walks back to his Hotel in South Pattaya.

In fact he had come into contact with exposed power cables, concealed by the flood waters. Passers-by realized the situation and were reluctant to approach the victim because of the potential of electrocuting themselves.

This seems rather an unlikely explanation. Exposed power cables concealed by flood waters? This would have caused a power failure in the entire area, grounding the live supply and dropping out breakers as soon as the exposed cables became submerged. And what of everyone else in contact with water last night or in the early hours of this morning? The flooding around Pattaya was impossible to avoid....there wasn't a dry bit of road or path in sight. Any experts out there?

  9. Any suggestions where to get great fresh seafood in Pattaya, in a restaurant (not to buy in a market)?

Ideally, a nice CLEAN place, need good air-conditioning, and lots of turnover to assure freshness.

i think what you need is Mata Hari on the way to jomtien, its not exclusivly seafood but it has very good seafood and specials every week and all cooked very well, the decor ambience and service is excellent, im sure you will not be disappointed

  10. Some people just can't take criticism - if you voice an opinion be prepared to have it criticised...I'm only reflecting on the evidence of what you said....if you feel you are right don't slag me off, justify your premise.

i do know a little about wine and it's production....I've had to drink the stuff for years AND pay for it...so I've spent some time and effort finding out about it....now if you think you've got a better argument stick to it and expound.....

come on everyone CARM DOWN ive got some thai wine at home that says this partucular wine is good, its not the best in rhe world but its decent value, if someone says i dont know what im talKing about I DONT CARE "UP 2 U " :o

  11. I'm french. And I enjoy french wines. Unfortunately 80% of french imported wines in Thailand are "table wine - Vin de table" !

But now in Pattaya we can find excellent wines from France. Thai French Wine (Soi 17) import only selected french wines. They have wines from Bordeaux and from Loire Valley. Most of them are AOC.

Most of prices are cheaper than Monsoon Valley wines !

And certainly, if I compare Medoc and Thai wines, they don't match in the same category.

2 days before I tasted a "Gamay de Touraine" (500 bahts) it was perfect.

    Thai French Wine

im afraid most french wines are over priced and over rated, france thought they had the monoply on wines back in the 70s when they decided to take the law into there own hands by smashing up all the italian wines they could get there hands on, of course they were against the brits going in to Iraq as they were the biggest arms supplier to Iraq and there friend sadam, not to mention beef apples the list gos on and on

Despite the French wine industry being caught on the hop by the mass production in Australia and the like they continue to be the yardstick by which all wines are rated and continue to produce the best wines money can buy....(lots of money sometimes) - the variation in French wines from year to year and their unusual classification by region makes for great and interesting products, not subject to the massive uniformity and blandness from countries who believe that quantity is more important than quality.

It would also seem probable that anyone who is subjct to prejuices as irrational and severe as the poster above would be incapable of making an informed opinion on any subject at all.

thats my opinion and theres not much point of you being on amy forum as only your opinion is right. go and look in the mirror and bore urself :o leave me alone silly boy

  12. :o
I've often wondered why there are so many Brits in Thailand. I'm talking young Brits in their late 20s, early 30s, who should be pursuing careers in England. Instead, they are here working shit teaching jobs just so they can stay. What happens when they're 65 and have nothing? I have an excuse - I'm retired, got a pension and a ton of bucks in the bank. I'm here to chill. Is it realy that bad in England? Must be a miserable little island....

the reason why were in thailand is because next to a yanks intelligence, were all rocket scientists :D

Most rocket scientists know how to use capital letters, punctuate and spell correctly! :D

very good sir :D i forgot i was back at school :D but im still correct about the content :D

you only have to watch on tv " are you smarter than a 5th grader to realize about ur level of intelligence, not to mention about ur 'friendly fire', but thats another issue, that we lost more soldiers since the 2nd world war on "friendly fire" from the good old US of A

OK,nothing wrong with poking a little fun at you telaksslave, I mean after all you set yourself up for it. I am a yank an honestly take no offense to your ignorant comment. I have friends from all walks of life, Yanks, Brits, etc. Ingnorance is like having an allergy, you just have to live with it, but not all Brits are yank bashers and visa versa. can't we all just get along? :D

well i got u going B) some of my best mates r septic tanks :D

  14. My poll - so here is background to the above question for those not close to this.

When the military moved in to remove the democratically elected TRT Government, it did so following demostrations by a largely middle-class Bangkok group called the PAD, saying it was necessary to do so as there was serious social disunity. However, it promised to hold elections a year later. It kept the promise and the election was held. It was considered free and fair by most though there were reports (as always) about vote buying. The electorate returned to power a party (PPP) that was a self-admitted proxy of the TRT.

i noticed that only about 12% of farangs are idiots, i thought the percentage would have been a lot higher, what on earth are these people thinking about, how can a military coup im prove the country.

  17. I am impressed ....

don't be, as matter of fact I quite like the Brits (well, the ones living in Britain). I've made made (one of) my home(s) there, so I should know. Here just taking the mickey out of plonkers seen in Pattaya, maybe I touched a raw nerve there :o one of the things that were impressed on me in Blighty is that one shouldn't take oneself too seriously. But neither getting wasted so early in the day is a clever thing to do.

" you quite like the brits wow we are honoured " and might one ask what country are you from, or are you ashamed to tell us :D

  19. I'm looking for a storage place, where people rent space to store things. Is there one that is very secure, in or near Pattaya area?

I might be looking for a small space to put maybe ten boxes, up to a larger place to store about 10 pieces of furniture.

    Any suggestions?

Bangkok area is OK too. I'm looking for the best place.

    thanks!

there is a very good storage unit in pattaya fully enclosed 24 hour security and alarmed call paul 0870330404
