  1. The OP asked What it takes to get them to listen? translation; Thais don't listen, well here is a good example. my 9 yr old son and I were in the states this summer and I asked him to tell the waitress we need something. He came back and said with great surprise and excitment in his voice: Dad she lsitened to me. I asked: So, what did you expect? He replied: "At home (koh samui) they don't look at me and just blow me off when I try to talk to them" from the mouth of babes! :o
And speaking Thai dosent help,! i have a very good friend thats a doctor here and is fluent, its even worse for him as they DO understand him and still do it wrong !,.Reading some posters comments here i think they are in a different Thailand to some of us,.and its to be expected that some members have come galloping in as Thai defenders and to you i say you are lucky if you have never expereinced some of the problems others are discussing,.but to say it dosent exist is a joke,.

On the other hand, no mistakes are ever made in Western countries........................... what a load of B%$#@cks.

Is your wife controlling your replies ? :D .whats western countries got to do with it ? ,,arent we discussing SOME Thais ?

  3. When I read read racist <deleted> like this ('treat them all like 5 year olds' <deleted>?) I wonder whether it's Thailand that attracts f*cking idiots in such large numbers or just Thaivisa.

maybe from your ghetto a 5yo kid is a total retard.. but from where i come from, he already has an idea that sitting with wet paint on a seat is gonna taint it.

If a grown thai male working construction all his life does not understand that, there is nothing wrong in threating him like an idiot when you clearly pay him to do YOUR WORK and clearly gave him clothes to COVER himself. he failed his work, he disrecpected you therefore he needs to be punished, that is how kids work.

OP is just real unlucky because anything related to renovating a house to building one is never gonna have a decent ending in thailand, you may get some of the best of them, it'll still look crappy compared to a basic job in western countries.. my house was done by the best wood guy in phuket and yet theres a bunch of corners done badly, the doors dont fit perfectly..

the whole house lot here as uneven foundations.

the stairs are off by half a foot... so yes you cannot expect a low paid thai to do a perfect job, but putting a <deleted> clothe under his ass when asked to.. doesnt take a genius.. they train dogs to do that in 1 day. if he cannot complete such a retarded task, why should he earn the respect of the guy PAYING him to do something a dog learns in 1 day(see a 2 hours session)

Yes unlike some of tvs millionaires we are talking about mainly lower paid workers from predominantly issan ,not university educated building contractors,..seems most arent just uneducated but are uneucationable ( is that a word ) ! :o
  4. There was a thread somewhere about BGs where if there failed to carry condoms there would be liable to a Police fine?
I remember reading a thread somewhere (might have been a news item) stating that ladies found along along Beach Road in Pattaya, and other such places, where police might suspect that they were there for non-legal purposes would carry out a search and if condoms were found - this would be taken as evidence that the person in question was guilty of solicitation.

What about if it was a katoey ? :o
  5. My advice after doing it many times on a bike and once in a 4x4 is ,unless you are an adventurist and will be prepared for anything dont bother ( with a car ), on a dirt bike for dirt bike riders its great, however ,the thais by comparison are great drivers compared to the khymers, when i am riding to pp its like a computer game ,cars ,trucks, bikes, dogs, cows, pigs, everyting you can think of out to KILL YOU,..its like the USA versus Mexico comparing Cambodia to Thailand,.and remember there are no ambulances or emergency services and all the farang i know that have had an accident there go to thailand for care,oh and i forgot an important bit of advice, avoid poi pet as a crossIng point they are HORRIBLE there, i have taken 2 hours at best to cross to 5 at worst, i only go because i like to ride rough roads /off road, but extreme caution must be used, we never ride at night, there is as much traffic without lights as with and all the animals seem to like to sleep in the road i kid you not, ,.

  6. I went with a friend to the clinic on pattaya klang down from foodland past the second road lights on the right, quite an amusing sign in the window says " mole ,freckle, wart removal, he had a mole between his legs that was geting uncomfortable, he was in and out in 15 minutes, said it was injected and will shrink, and it did, almost instantly !. 1500 baht,

  7. Best #1 : The climate, meaning that I can go out in little more than a tee shirt and pair of shorts and not be freezing my nuts off.

Best #2 : The easy going attitude of the people with their mai pben rai, live and let live, outlook (except for those in worst #2)

Worst #1 : The way the mind numbing corrupt system serves up third rate facilities to it's citizens and visitors alike and everyone just accepts it.

Worst #2 : Bigoted, hypocritical, narrow minded farangs (but these only seem to exist in cyber space seldom venturing into the real world).

Aint that the truth phil, ill bet half or more in real person are very reserved,.but thailand does seem to attract lets say ( to keep it polite ) some very odd fellows, since living here i have managed to go from about 50 aquantances to 4 that i can say i like, the others i have nothing in common with,.mainly heavy drinkers ,are rude to the girls and thais in general or ballon chasers and severe budgeters, :D ,..its strange but most of the farang in there own countries are ok, some of the ones that move to thailand seem lets say different to keep it polite, :o
  8. I used to work with a guy who said he couldn't quit, we saw a thing on TV about pain association so we hit him every time he went for a smoke (he agreed to try it by the way) and it worked. Some people have had success with less painful ways such as pinching or wearing an elastic band on the wrist and twanging it hard. It really does work.
But the punch in the nose is still the best ! :o
  9. Its difficult isnt it,we have an uncle that has smoked all his life, but he gave up for a year, my wife never ever said anything to him about giving up ,but when he came to visit us his skin on his face looked a lot better and she told him, in a very polite way, it made him think, and although hes started again hes smoking less for sure, compliments work better than pushing someone, we actualy have had rows over it but it did no good,.try saying

'"oh we saw bill smith the other day, hes looking really good and so proud of giving up,".dont worry smokers know we ( non smokers ) dont like it but that in itself wont have them give up, its a terrible drug nicotine and the user must want to stop,.most do ,but its not easy,.

  10. recycled book for it 20.000 baht, ask any small thai bike shop

KLX not an easy bike for the recycled book market tho ??? Its easy enough on some kind of common thing, CB400, Bandit4, CBR etc..

But once you want a oddball ?? And a new model oddball at that !!! I dont know about your area but here they wont let a bike with a book that doesnt match the machine slide..

Also your getting good priced books.. 28k was the last price I had.. Easier to buy a new bike WITH a book for a KLX / KSR ??

Actually my buddy here did put a cloned book on a small bike but in my opinion its a waste of time, there are clubs for the klx and rallies are held where hundreds of them show up, most without plates,...i have 3 bikes ,one has a plate, the thai 125 suzuki, im always stopped on that one, not on the other 2 for some reason, but they are trail/off road bikes and i avoid the busy side of sukomvit,.
  11. Punch your painter, divorce your wife, fire the house keeper, kick the dog, and say f*** off to the neighbor.

You are the king of your house, if you give them an inch they will take a mile. I'm now having to retrain my wife and my employees because I was too "jai yen / jai dee" and was getting stepped all over. I didn't realize that I was being taken advantage of until it hit me all at once what was going on. "Jai Yen" no more. Take control if you can.

I'm still in the process of obedience training but I think it will work out for everyone in the end.

Yes this is good advice, i found out the hard way that kindness is seen as a weakness and its abused and you get pushed to the edge, a side of me was seen by all that wasnt seen before, now there is some sort of respect and they know whos paying/ in charge .ME :o
