  1. I can’t wait to read The Nation’s editors commentary on the resent episodes in Bangkok. After championing the “Get Rid of Thaksin” at any price cause. Then chastising the world, all except China that is, for not understanding “Thai Democracy” where military coup are more favorable than elections.

What’s next for the editors, as the free world starts to condemn the bombings? Will the editors attempt to explain that in a true “Thai Democracy” that the rest of the world fails to understand and should adopt, a few deaths by bombing are a good thing, as long as it’s not the editor’s death that is?

Opinion with no relation to facts, you must be American. :o

  2. What facts ?
i dont know what facts , thats why i posted the query , in order to find out.
with strange rituals and funny handshakes
i dont go in for clubs with rituals , funny handshakes and a boy scout or rugby club mentality etc.

As I don't know where you are it's a bit difficult to be specific.

The club I've been running with recently suits me, you turn up, run for an hour or more then get back to the car park and have a couple of drinks then it's up to you. I generally leave at that point but some stay for more beer and a meal at a cheap restaurant on the way back to town.

Other clubs I've been to have crappy runs as most of the hardcore are old farts then do all the funny handshake stuff.

  3. Well much as hate to wade into this potential flame fest.

The HHH is a paperchase with beer at the end of it. I've been an irregular attender with various clubs over the years and have at times enjoyed it immensly and almost got semi fit at one point. It's a great excuse to wander around the countryside. Whether its worth it in your case would probably depend on where you are and what clubs are available. My personal experience is that some of the clubs seem to cater to a limited social group while others are extremely entertaining.

  4. I can only remember Black Cat, and My Place, are they still there ?

    :D

Black Cat has been gone for many, many years, but The Laughing Leprechan took the space and did a lot of renovating. Very good food, very pleasant owner, and IMHO the best British breakfast in town - the only one that I can't quite finish. :D

    Never knew "My Place".

My Place was one of the bars very popular in the 1980s located about where the Rydges hotel is now located. I can't remember whether it was still in operation when Black Cat opened, but there may have been a year or two of overlap.

The Karen Hut was in the soi behind where the Rydges Hotel is now. That was about the only expat girlie bar in the early eighties.

Anyway the Red Lion is pretty good and so is O'Malleys :o

  5. Christmas Dinner at a friends house. He did all the cooking and wouldn't let his wife near the kitchen

Turkey cooked with a very large piece of pork belly on top. Roast potatoes, broccoli, brussel sprouts, roasted minced pork, cranberry sauce, yorkshire pudding, gravy. Numerous bottles of wine. Choclate cake. :o

  6. The other downside was that the restaurant was a bit overpopulated by farang gays and their thai partners, although I forgot about it after a few xmas beers.

Was picturing them naked taking your mind off the food? :D

    :o

The chap at the next table to us was dressed in red pajamas, I was trying not to burst out laughing.

    Apologies if this upsets anyone.

  7. I won't be going to the Sheraton this year. Last year I'd have to say although the food was good and there was plenty, it definately had that overcooked style that you inevitabley get from buffet.

The other downside was that the restaurant was a bit overpopulated by farang gays and their thai partners, although I forgot about it after a few xmas beers.

  8. ....or they will find that the expat community will drop considerably.

    Maybe that's the general idea?

Aimed at the Pattaya expat community which seems to outnumber local thais. Unfortunately it will have the same effect on the higher class expats in Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai.
