The police need a very large pay increase. I'm not sure what the pay of the average cop is at the moment but a few years back it was 5,000baht a month. If you allow someone with a gun unlimited power and then don't pay them enough to live on you're asking for trouble.

I'm English and I don't find it offensive, some people obviously do.

I guess the powers that be must gauge whether a significant enough minority is offended.

That and in the recesses of my brain I seem to remember some Thai law about "offending" members of royalty regardless of whether they are Thai or not? I could just as easily have dreampt that one up though

I think in Thailand its best to stay away from any royal issues unless you've got something nice to say.
