  1. Are there any internet shops around that have Microsoft Office 2003 -2007? I may need to do some copywriting work while im there...also do any of these shops allow you to connect a USB flashdrive? Most places in Bangkok don't allow you to connect a USB memory device in fear of viruses.

My laptop is a big 19" Toshiba, so it's not really too convenient for travel...and would like to leave it in Bangkok if possible.

    thanx !

  2. yes i suppose all motorcycle taxi fares are 20 baht countrywide, and doesnt matter where you are going.

she has to go to a beautician school requiring a fare of 50 baht each way (100 baht total) 30 days a month for 6 months.

at the end of 6 months this will equal 18,000 baht...at this time i will sell the bike to either upgrade, or if it foreseeable, break up with her if she starts to become evil.

only time will tell, but my wallet will be safe and not so deflated if i purchase a bike now and keep it in my name.

  3. So many automatic step through bikes I dont know where to start looking.

She needs something automatic, I need her to be on something sure footed, good handling and with ample power to get out of trouble.

So if you can recommend a year and model, I'd really appreciate it.......if it was up to me she'd be on a Raider/CBR :D

    help fellas..... :o

  4. not sure of a hairdresser at a bus station since it is a transit area, I think a noodle restaraunt would be more appropriate for this type of location.

if i had connections with the soon to be transit mafia, i would run a shuttle bus to and fro the city center....but but but

  5. ample elbow room on the VIP busses? Last time i left chiang rai to catch a plane in chiang mai via 1st class bus, a hilltribe dude fell asleep on my shoulder...it was romantic and all, but i just couldnt get into it with his bad breath.

  6. What are the odds on finding another 2003 for 17k? the mileage doesnt really concern me, since id send it in for a 1000 baht valve job, and a new set of rings, and bearings.

I read in the chiang mai forum that there are a couple of places (streets) where people park their bikes for personal sales?

Well, if 31k it is, I always wanted to do the ride from Bangkok to Chiang Mai.

  7. World Speed , Srinakarin road, 350 meters from the Ramkhamhaeng intersection, going away from Bangkapi, but has a long 'que' for service.

For fast service, the dealer on Pattanakarn, close to the intersection with a tunnel cutting through to Ramkhamhaeng 24 is fast regrding service, they changed my sparkplug for free, i brought the plug.

Both locations have CBR's in stock, the Pattanakarn one has two black ones in stock right now, other one has about 2-3 different colors.

    Both locations were polite.

  8. Can anyone verify the price of a used 3-5 year old CBR 150 in Chiang Mai/Rai ? Newer is ok, if not much more.

Thinking of moving to either Chiang Rai/Mai and wondering if it is more or less to drive one up from Bangkok.

    Thanks

  9. how far out of town is the university? as long as there are alot of people walking around it should be fine in most places... the farther away from tourist designated bars/entertainment zones the better.

right now she is paying 3k baht for house rental, so a similiar type of scenario for a hair styling shop may be an option.

  10. that seems like a rather large project for chiang rai...good sign.

so, does the soft opening mean they are currently taking in transport to and from?... kinda like the old bus terminal better, you can walk to almost any place in the city.

  11. Has anyone had any luck buying a decent cycle mask anywhere in Chiang Mai? I've had a look around and all I can find are the cotton masks or those surgical masks. I want a proper one that preferably seals up around the edges. My lungs feel like they're coated with soot (which they probably are) and I need some way to stop this stuff from coating it further.

Any tips would be great. Thanks!

    try a hardware store

  12. Do the banks in thailand have a ready list of REO's (real estate owned) by people who have defaulted on their loans?

or is there a central agency that takes care of foreclosed properties where i can find a list? National Housing Authority maybe? or are they just in chare of providing low interest loans?

any help on how to locate foreclosed properties is much appreciated...im not looking to turn a profit, just a place to live....that i can fix up, looking for something in the upper sukhumvit/ekkamai/thong lor area...or other good central locations close to BTS or MRT.

the predominantly japanese areas around sukhumvit 33-31 are also very ok!

    thanks

  13. the absolute best mexican food is in chiang rai, yes chiang rai.....not chiang mai , not bangkok, not pattaya.

there is a lady who has run 2 mexican restaurants in the US, formerly she was taught by a mexican family and later married a man from chorpus christi, texas...

I had the enchilada combo platter with a freaking huge basket of chips, and it was like i was back in the states....even the presentation is like what you would find,i could not finish it all....this is when you know its a real mexican place.

she isnt shy with the cheese either and the enchilada sauce, was just that ...real enchilada sauce, not tomatoe sauce like some try to pass off....the meat is prepared and seasoned correctly and not that par boiled, chewy crap.

To bad its up in chiang rai though, because out of 13 years of residing in thailand, this is the only place that fills every singe niche:

    1.courtesy

    2.huge portions

    3.price

    4.large comfortable sitting area

    5.cleaniness

    6.real mexican food taste

    7.heart

Miguel's would be second to this place...followed by my kichen. ( the plastic chair with an electric wok on top)

  14. i'm thinking someplace close to a university, market or apartments with alot of college kids would be a good location.

happen to know any specific streets that fit this description...? i havent had a chance to go around on a motorcycle and do any real investigation yet. :o

    thanks

  15. I want to take the bus to Chiang Rai this time so i can take in some of the scenery and save some cash...Are there direct VIP or 1st class buses going to Chinag Rai from Bangkok, and back?...and woud you know the price?

Im looking at a lonely planet guide book, but there is no mention if there is a direct bus...only a bus from Chinag mai to Chiang rai.

The last time there I stayed at Garden jungle guest house for 200 baht a night , then Jansom guesthouse for 450 baht...does anyone know of a gusesthouse similiar in qualityto Jansom guesthouse, but at a price closer to around 200-300 baht?

    thanks

  16. thanks, this is a bit encouraging...so i think will take another trip up to chiang rai to verify rental prices.

for a 1-2 story shophouse, it seems that it might just be feasible...although i am thinking that, at this price point, it will be an older building, whic is ok as long as there is traffic.

    thanks again

  17. Thanks for the replies, pretty much what ive been thinking also.

I have developed a regeneration system that will put back 25% of the power back into the system, with supplementary energy storage for takeoff, that will not draw from the main batteries, for approx 3000 watts ( 50 feet of hard wheelie popping takeoff) then the sytem switches to the main batteries for cruising, while the supplementary system recharges.

If I could just sell 2-3 a month to other countries, I'd be happy with what I'm doing, and would keep food, on the table. Just doing what you dream of doing is what its about for me.

But would people be willing to order a bike from Thailand (distance, cost, quality, etc)? <<< this is what I'm worried about.

  18. the perfect place to take her would be "Gin Lom Choam Sapan" - located at samsen soi 3.

located on the chao phraya riverside with a stunning view of the new bridge....not hi-so, but with a mix of a variety of different groups of people...its is open air, live band with volume just right...and not to expensive...but will be a very memoreabe night out.

if you want to go all out there is Sirocco and Breeze which is run by the same owner...main patrons are expat business people.

  19. considering making a move to chiang rai from bangkok and would like to open a hairdressing place for my girlfriend, she says rent is possibe for between 2000-4000 baht per month, but i find this hard to believe...is there any truth in this?..one story shop is ok, but 2-3 floors would be better.

    thanks!
