  1. I've been building sites since 1995, there's a way to go about this, but doing anything local I'd have to consult with you first before I'd give it the green light. I'm not interested in building the site for you, but I'd be happy to consult with you for free. PM me and I'll give you my contact details.

  2. Here's what I have in my house, that seems to work just fine:

    Leonics QA

    Cyber Power

APC ES-500 - I use this on my backup drives

Powermatic - got a couple of larger ones of this brand, nice digital display

Syndome - a couple of their better line ones and one cheap version that I use on a couple of my routers

"Blackboom" Zircons- 3 of these from Office Depot

Never have had a problem yet, my drives are error free and no computers lost yet

But I agree, if you don't want to risk it go with the more expensive type. For me, I'm not so worried if I loose a motherboard or whatever I'll just

slap another one in. Data however I don't take a chance on and backup often, and off site.

as I wrote this my UPS chirrped.. hmmmmm

  3. UPS's are a must for living in Thailand. I use them on my valuable electronics, except TV's. Bose Iphone Player, Water Filter, Electric Garage Door Opener. On the few things I don't have plugged into them in my house, they have fried. I lost a printer a few years back from plugging directly into the wall, that sucked.

Anything you value electronically I suggest plugging it into a UPS if you can stand it. You might want to get one with a mute button. My house gets very annoying with all the UPS's and beeeeeeps when there are black outs.

As far as the brand goes, personally I'm not that partial. I've had good luck with the Chinese ones as long as they are physically made well. All the batteries die after about 1.5-2 years of use. I don't bother with the software installations or serial hook ups for auto shutdown. I was a retailer of APC's in the past, it's a great brand but a battery is a battery when it comes inside from what I have seen. You can get 2 cheap UPS's for the price of one APC in some cases.

  4. Land is expensive but there are plenty of places and it's a good interim business until they sell the land. I see huge lots sitting there for years and no one doing anything but hoping someone will buy it. Seems to me someone could approach the owner with a plan. Only thing that would be needed is - fences, tables, some water, and a vendor to sell some drinks. Dog Park Pattaya!

Actually I thought I saw an huge advert for one outside Foodland the other day, I was thrilled and called the number on the ad. Then the guy said he just trains dogs.

Maybe Tony's gym could pull it off for us.

  5. We need a dog park in Pattaya, something gated .. large area .. with water. I'd spend 100 Baht for access, to have some decent stray dog free large area where I could throw a ball and have fun with my fido's. When I feel bad for my dogs, I take them for a car ride out to the winery place out on Sukhumvit, Silverlake. It's about 40baht or something, too bad its way out there and no gates. Also my dog loves to chase the horses that go by, so I'm not at total ease there.

  6. I setup my building with all dd-wrt routers, daisy chained from the main router downstairs. The reason why I have two here, is that one is a VPN connecting router, the other just regular Thai Internet. I did that on every floor.

I guess I could have bridged it but I have not played with that setting yet, and I wanted to keep it simple.

If I understand you right, you want the routers on the outside? With weather and all, probably not a good idea. You can contact Bill from Sabaii Tech from the links on this page

    http://www.strongvpn.com/routers.shtml

Very helpful and probably knows how to pull this off.

  7. I just put some on my shop on Soi Khao Noi, I used a car shop along side Sukhumvit. Be prepared the film is not cheap. It cost me about 30,000 baht to do 3 large windows and door. If you need a referral PM me and I'll give you the number of the shop.

  8. I just started using a RSS reader, like FeedDemon. It's really nice as you can easily go through all the forums and read every heading on the article in just a few minutes. If you've never tried a RSS reader before, it's fairly easy. You just look for the little RSS icon and click on it, then get the URL and add it to the software. It then sucks the feed of the forum down (and usually many other sites by default) and then you are notified by the software of new posts.

There are a bunch of RSS readers, but I suggest FeedDemon and Newz Crawler

  9. hmm my dog is no ankle biter, there are quite a few versions of them.. this is more of a mix they sell... the body is more pit bull like on mine

loves to swim, he's all about the ball, protecting the house

I've owned about 10 dogs in my life, this one is my favorite so far, extremely intelligent

  10. Here's how it usually works for this stuff, let me order it now, pay for shipping, have it caught by Thai customs, pay the extra heavy tax, and then by the time all of that gets done with I'll get it a week after it's in the stores here. That's what happened with my Ipad.

Still, I'm anxious so will order it today. I'll be hooking it up vpn to USA.

If anyone knows where to get one in Bangkok, do me a favor and post soon!

  11. @chuang I guess the others who had similar problems are figments of their immagination as well. As I mentioned before I entered twice before with my Fiancée with no problems. Maybe you have not gone through recently? Maybe the fact that you have gone 17 times makes them like you? Don't doubt my encounter just because your situation is different.

Yes I was upset (not aggressive or arrogant), they grabbed her arm and told me to stay in line. What would you have done? Would you have stayed in line? Maybe you would have said, "oh please, can I come with you, would that be ok mr. officer?" Whatever! Yes I was upset. I refused to stay in line and that upset them. I refused to leave her and go through customs as they instructed me to 3 times. That was the start of the whole fiasco. How moronic is it for them to tell me to leave her?

English - they didn't speak anything I could understand easily. I've been living and traveling in Asia for almost 20 years. Who cares about that? I was able to get the jist of what they wanted me to do. But what about a simple paper to the accompanying traveler to explain what to expect? How hard is that to do? Why create the stress? Maybe they like to put the fellow travelers under duress? If they want to refuse that many people a day from entering Singapore, make a VISA process!

Judge me if you like Chuang, (everyone has a opinion right?) but I think other members have had similar problems with Singapore Customs, and if they want to act like that, they can have their 14mile island with a brand new bad hotel. I think these Custom officers are overworked and have no quality of life and are having a bad week there, or maybe a bad month.

Thank you for the post though, I know I've prevented a few fellow Farangs from wanting to go to Singapore now. That was my goal.

  12. MrToad you are correct, I have now made 7 pages and thank you.

As I said back on page 2 or 3 I forget now, if I cost them one Farang and a girlfriend or significant other not to go there, and to choose Hong Kong instead then I'm happy.

I have too much fun traveling with my Thai significant others to be brought down by goons at Singapore Customs wondering if I'm a pimp or something.

Anyways, I'm here for replies and hoping for an even 10 pages now.
