  1. I recently fell in love with Nana Plaza again (Rainbow 4 is awesome and smoke free), but my usual hotel on Soi 11 Grand President is a bit depressing. If money is no object, what

is the closet and nicest, girl friendly, hotel by Nana Plaza.

I don't mind a short taxi ride as I usually won't bother with walking to Nana, it just needs to be as fast as possible via Taxi or other means.

    TIA

  2. I recently returned from Bangkok, and had the pleasure to experience Rainbow 4 at Nana. I've gone in there for years but on my most recent

trip I was pleasantly surprised on quality and everything else about the bar. I'll even go out on a limb and say in 20 years I've never seen

better selection or a better run bar. Sorry I digerss, let me explain the best thing about it, it was Non Smoking.

And I don't mean that pseudo-non smoking that happens in most bars. Outside of Rainbow 4 were all the smokers, it was awesome. Inside

it was packed, music not too loud, and a great viewing (and picking) experience.

What do you non smokers do to prepare for the constant chain smokers you sit next to in the GoGo's? For us non smokers who wake up the

next day feeling horrible, and the taste of nicotine in our mouth.. I'm wondering if there are any tricks besides changing seats and/or leaving

for another GoGo when it gets too smoky.

Does anyone know of a non smoking bar in Pattaya?

  3. I grew up in the mountains, shoveling snow, cutting wood, dealing with black ice, etc. I had a huge yard, and

I love dogs. One thing about Alaskan Malamutes is they need space to run, and they absolutely LOVE SNOW, and

most importantly - COLD WEATHER. Even with my large yard, and the cold climate, I was advised by a breeder

that it was not large enough. I'm glad I didn't get one, I had other friends that had the breed and they were diggers

and they always wanted to get outside and run away.

If anyone is considering getting a Malamute type dog in Thailand, please don't. They can't handle the temperatures

and this breed needs to run. I have no idea why they are in Thailand, it's like expecting a polar bear can exist in a zoo

    around here.

OP - don't take any offense, and I hope you can second my opinion that this breed should not be kept in Thailand.

  4. I don't even waste my time searching anymore. Sure, you might find it, if, as the guy said, you know where to look. Or, you can save a lot of time and frustration by simply ordering it on the internet in the States for delivery to a friend or relative who can ship it over. You may have to wait 10 days for shipping, but you know exactly what you are getting and only spend about 30 minutes locating and purchasing it. If your friend ships by POST in a plain package, including a used paperback book and a couple of pictures and labels the contents, "books, pictures and gifts," there won't be any duty (don't insure it as that is a red flag for value).

I can also confirm this method works fine, do not insure, and just put it in a box with regular stuff.

I also bring back over what I can when I come back over from the States. Back in the early 90's I was a system integrator, I find for whatever reason over here, they don't stock the best computer components. Hard drives are ok priced, so last time I came over I just brought CPU, GPU, Ram and a killer motherboard. I'm sure it saved me thousands of baht.

The other thing they don't have here is good NAS systems, I had to bring 2 of them over.

  5. Friendship market in Pattaya, at the back in the milk area, has some Russian Kefir (like yougurt) drinks, mix it with some milk. It's the only place in Pattaya that has Kefir, it's very good for you

and also seems to keep everyone I know that drinks it, including myself, regular and healthy.

They seem to run out though very fast, shipment comes in around 3pm.

  6. Although not as convenient as Tums as Rolaids, you can find Pepto Bismol in some locations, not many though. I too looked everywhere, and could never find any tums or rolaids. I bought some at Sams Club, a huge bottle, and brought it over. I think Pepto is probably better for after drinking anyways.

I can tell you at my house, with all the girls eating Sum Tum and falling ill 2x a month or so, Pepto is their go to medicine. They don't like the Thai style Pepto.

  7. This can be very painful and living in Thailand, it's hard to find the gadgets that help.

I purchased 2 of these splints on Amazon, and don't mind selling one to someone afflicted by this condition.

If anyone wants to purchase this one from me, just PM me. I'll sell it for the same price

listed on Amazon. Unfortunately they don't have them here in Thailand anywhere, I had

    to ship mine here.

I also found the following helpful in treating it -

    1. No more flip flops around the house - always wear shoes

    2. I freeze a can of soup and after workouts that stress the heal I roll my foot with it

    3. I use Ibuprofen to treat the pain

    4. Before workouts I stretch the muscles affected

    5. Great site for anyone with the condition - http://www.sportsinjuryclinic.net/sport-injuries/foot-heel-pain/plantar-fasciitis

    6. I wear this night splint until my pain goes away

    splint.jpg

    -----------------------------------------

    More information on Plantar Fasciitis

The condition is traditionally thought to be inflammation. This is now believed to be incorrect due to the absence of inflammatory cells within the fascia. The cause of pain is now thought to be degeneration of the collagen fibres close to the attachment to the calcaneus (heel bone).

    Symptoms

Symptoms of the condition include heel pain, under the heel and usually on the inside, at the origin of the attachment of the fascia. There can be pain when pressing on the inside of the heel and sometimes along the arch. The pain is usually worse first thing in the morning as the fascia tightens up overnight and after a few minutes it eases as the foot gets warmed up.

As the condition becomes more severe the pain can get worse throughout the day if activity continues. Stretching the plantar fascia may be painful and sometimes there may also be pain along the outside border of the heel. This may occur due to offloading the painful side of the heel by walking on the outside border of the foot. It may also be associated with the high impact of landing on the outside of the heel if you have high arched feet.

Tarsal tunnel syndrome symptoms can be very similar. If you have any shooting pain or tingling / numbness then consider this as an alternative diagnosis.

    Treatment

Although there is no single cure, many treatments can be used to ease pain. In order to treat it effectively for the long-term, the cause of the condition must be corrected.

    What can the athlete do?
    • Rest until it is not painful. It can be very difficult to rest the foot as most people will be on their feet during the day for work. By walking on the painful foot you are continually aggravating the injury and increasing inflammation.
    • A good plantar fasciitis taping technique can help support the foot relieving pain and helping it rest
    • Apply ice or cold therapy to help reduce pain and inflammation. Cold therapy can be applied regularly until symptoms have resolved.
    • Plantar fasciitis exercises in particular stretching the fascia is an important part of treatment and prevention. Simply reducing pain and inflammation alone is unlikely to result in long term recovery. The fascia tightens up making the origin at the heel more susceptible to stress
    • A night splint is an excellent product which is worn overnight and gently stretches the calf muscles preventing it from tightening up overnight.

  8. Thanks for the help, we have a 14 rooms for rent and the laundry is quite the task with those little machines. So I was looking for something a

little more industrial, I know they have front loading washers of commercial grade for sale somewhere.. I see them everywhere. The laundry

place out in front of Tony's has one, as well as many others do.

I'll try the Express contact, but surely with all these commercial laundry locations there has to be some vendor around that is selling new and

    used commercial laundry equipment.

  9. It was not just a "bag", it was her purse. Would anyone here want to shop somewhere that your wife has to check her purse

at the door? Would you want to shop there if you had to leave your valuables outside in your motorbike or car? It all seems

    ridiculous to me.

This is just a stupid policy by the store. And it needs public eyes on it. Like I said, I like the

market, but hopefully this attention will make the owner buy some security cams or do something else other than asking

their customers to check their purses at the door. Which I should also mention that it seemed quite discriminatory about

the process. Others were walking in with little fuss.

I should mention, after about 2 minutes of arguing one of the check out girls just said, "Go go, never mind him". So maybe

it's just a problem with this one security guards.

  10. I like Friendship Market, they have stuff I need that other places don't. I've also been shopping there since I first came to Pattaya 20 years

ago. But today made me angry enough to do a post about an issue I see there and their " security guards ".

I understand their desire to control shoplifting. What I don't understand is their insistence to stop some ladies and have them check

their bags at the security counter. The counter in my opinion, does not seem that safe. Someone could accidentally pickup the wrong bag

going out, or have some other mishap there.

I went in there today and the older red eyed security guard wanted my wife's purse at the door. I think it's absolutely crazy to ask someone

to check their purse at the door that is going to go shopping inside. In her purse, like most women, they have their money, gold, and whatever

valuable items. Checking it behind the counter is not an option, unless she empties everything out and carries it with her.. ridiculous.

And what is worse, when I was trying to explain to him that this is unreasonable, I could easily spot several others in the store that had the same

size purses and bags walking around. Why did they want my wife's purse so much?

Note to Friendship Market - I like your store, I like your items, and most of your staff is great. But please, get a handle on your bag checkin

situation. If you have an issue with theft, setup cameras and train your guards how to watch and who to watch. Right now you are letting some

security guards scare away your customers, and creating a bad scene at the door.

The parking lot security guards are fine, never had an issue with them.

  11. Thank you for all the suggestions, I have seen that meeting point sign but from my experience the weary travellers I meet there can't seem to find it. I agree to tell everyone just "turn right"

do not turn left. The problem I have is the stupid pickup service I send, has no system what so ever. Sometimes they stand on the left, sometimes on the right.

This map is awesome but they don't mark the meeting place:

    http://www.suvarnabhumiairport.com/indoor_map_internet_en.php

Does anyone know where that meeting spot is on the map? I'll mark it and then give it to my customers

  12. Every time I go to pickup someone at the airport, there is total mayhem. Travellers exiting customs area are presented with two options

when they leave, Exit Left, or Exit Right. And when we go meet travellers we only have the option of meeting someone from the right. Police

have told us before we can't go to the left hand side. One cop finally told me to walk outside and go around and I can be on the let hand side.

Has anyone else seen this problem? I pay companies to pickup friends and this is a constant problem. They can't find the drivers. My

friends turn left and miss everyone standing on the right. The people on the right can't cross over to the left.

    It's absolutely insane.

I think next time I'll tell them to go up to the 3rd floor to Starbucks or something, waiting by the exit is just stupid the way it's setup now.

  13. I too have witnessed some bad business practice of local hosting companies around Pattaya, mostly just registering domains in not the owners name. Be

    careful.

You can't go wrong with checking out hosting companies on webhostingtalk.com but many of the low low price companies are low price for a reason. Two

middle of the road pricing companies I know and can refer are the following:

    http://www.reliablehosting.com (which is also StrongVPN)

    and http://www.nationalnet.com

  14. I did a search and found this adapter for your TV - UWA-BR100 wireless adapter

As far as it being worth it, it really depends on what media sites the TV is offering. Youtube on a TV is cool to have, but I'm personally not a huge fan. Most the other stuff they put on those TV's

is not that appealing in Thailand.

In the states you can pull in Hulu, Netflix and others but here you would need a VPN router to since those sites are restricted to USA IP's.

On my setup I do a few things to keep myself from getting bored -

USA VPN Router hooked up to an Apple TV and Roku Box - for Hulu and NetFlix and other media stuff

WD Live Media Center - connected on my network for downloaded Torrents

SlingBox and SlingCatcher - to stream live TV from my house in Vegas (this is the best, since it also has DVR ability)

UK VPN - for BBC Iplayer on my computer

  15. I've been looking for a while and can't find any companies that offer concrete countertops. I'm consider it for a home and restaurant/bar

    installation.

I did see one concrete counter on a bar on 2nd road in Pattaya, I forget the name but it's

an Irish Pub style next to Royal Garden. The bar looks good, with some nice polished

    broken glass in it.

If anyone know's the company, or if can recommend one, please let me know.

    -----------------------------------

Check out some of these awesome counters:

I found this link here for a comparison of Concrete vs Granite and Quartz countertops. For anyone considering

the pros and cons of them.
