    They are only a third of the price of a Digitek.

    Or you could spend a little more and get the VR2.

    Don't know if there is a Bangkok agent.....but you could internet order for mail elivery from Canada.

    You could try Kuhn Boyd at Chicane Motorcycles Bangkok. I understand that he is running aftermaket gear on his race Ducati.

    Just an idea.

    No mate, I was guessing you were coming from Sydney, as I don't remember you saying where you were leaving from. Melbourne-Cairns return. You going up the guts or following the coast? The coast your looking at 7,000 kms round trip. Up the guts a wee bit over 6,500 return. :)http://maps.google.com/

    Nothing is thrown away, either rebuilt or reused.

    Yeah, definitelt agree there. One of our little motosoi (I like the title) shops. Seemed okay from the front when I first looked, then I actually looked past gloom and I had honestly never seen so much bike crap in my life. On hindsight, its probably a treasure trove of hard to get items (amongst the rubbish) and all stored away by location in the owners head :)

    Are there any specific routes or things I should not miss as I start moving south towards Mae Sot?

    Kawi Er6 is a pretty darn good bike.  The only thing that sucks on it is suspension, can only adjust preload on the shock. I wish I could play around to set it up better for these bumpy turns, but otherwise it is a great bike.  I presume it is a big success in Thailand.  Good value for money and capable enough.  

    Is there such a thing as motorcycle trackdays in Thailand?  Where you can go on a racetrack and go as fast as you want on the circuit?

  6. This is ludicrious. It's illegal to have them, but it's 'quasi' legal to sell them!

    This is one of the specific reasons I told my son when he comes from Australia to NOT bring any medicines unless I k now of them first, so that I can advise him accordingly.

    The Aussy embassy in Bangkok were very helpful in regards to prescription medication as I'm sure the other embassies are.

    Mind you I nearly fell over backwards when I asked the embassy about a certain medication for ADHD my son had been taking. The embassy comes back and says that it is a legal amphetamine derivative <deleted>!?:) (dexamphetamine) BUT with strictly controlled quantities coming into Thailand

  7. When upside down forks came out, as hailed in their day, I didn't think much of it until I bought my 04R1. Before that I had the then normal style forks and often problem of leaky fork seals from repeated stone chips on unprotected hard chrome. I eventually solved my fork seal failure problem by buying new fork pistons and putting on fork gators before fitting them back into the triple clamps. Then I always had to fiddle with the gators once in awhile to see if I had leaks from the seals, which stopped happening's but it was cumbesome. Along comes my brand new 2004 R1. New style forks, aerodynamically protected hard chrome via the front guard. No gators needed to protect fork seal hard chrome, no fork seal changes required while I owned it, easy to keep clean and minimal chance of the scraper seals having dirt sitting on the feather edge.

    I never tracked my bike, but from a reduced maintenance scenario, I will swear by them for that very convenience.

    What are you classing as old?. This a 90 - 110 Series Landrover pictured above and they do have hand brakes and also because Land Rover didn't go the route of mainstream, doesn't mean its wrong :)

    Are you sure its a 90/110 Landy, from the front for sure but the doors (handles) appear to be from an earlier model.

    Thanks Spoorman, On hindsight its a 127 (guessing its loong wheel base). Land Rover earmarked the model number by wheelbase 93"=90 series, 110"=100 series & 127"=127 series

  10. The Thai driver said truck's brakes failed, causing him to lose control of the vehicle, which flipped over in the accident.

    And couldnt grab the handbrake ??

    Older Land Rovers don't have a hand brake as most cars do, they have a transmission brake, which if were to be used whilst the vehicle is in motion, would not be safe (or sensible).

    I don't think you can classify the Blue Oyster Bar as a 'beer bar'.  :D

    What you mean there is no Blue Oystr bar in Thailand...dam_n and here I was looking forward to wearing my leather chaps with the butt cheaks cut out :)

  12. I used to help at the local dragstrip in Australia for many a year as an official and a bike racer. We used to run an All-Bike event every year with a party afterwards with live bands with vocals, licensed bar and strippers. All were invited including locals bike clubs. Never had any major problems with patch holders and if there were any problems, it was sorted out quick smart by the club bosses. I'm not into bike clubs per se, but I'm also not against them. You get A-holes in every crowd, regardless of whether they hold a patch, no patch, skin colour, nataionality or your ride, makes no difference to me :)
