  1.
I have a British mate in BKK who owns a black Duati 1098S.
    Is that Derek?

Sorry Rustic, yes that's Derek....he had a good uneventful ride on his 1098S to Chiang Mai (for the bike week) and back (2,000 odd kms without a glitch). Who says Ducati's have problems all the time.

  2. Honda dealer? They do have spares you know. Or if you don't like Honda dealers take one of the others (sample) to one of the parts shops near Saphan Kuay BTS station.

Last resort show us a picture?

Ever been into a Honda dealer and asked for a part for a CBR900 ?? They look at you like you have 2 heads..

Part of my problem is am not in BKK, so it has to be someone I can phone / email or order online if not Phuket (should have stated more on that).

I had one off the bike but put it back on.. Will take a snap.. Essentially tho a 4mm thread and a 6mm allen bolt head is what it is.

You should have mentioned what bike you had in the first post otherwise most people will assume its small scooter. You can't admonish someone for something they don't know, telepathy still isn't common yet. Are there any breakers in Phuket and for that matter I would have talk to some of the big bike rentals and bike shops there.

    Have a nice day :)

  3. What happened to the bike on the truck?

    She shat her chain :)

Talk about fortune though- this happened in the middle of nowhere and within minutes a jolly old fellow shows up in his pickup and drives the VFR800 all the way to Pitsanulok for a mere 1000 Baht. In Pitsanulok we are lucky enough to find a shop that has a 530 chain in stock and they install it in about 15 minutes. Job done, Ride On!

    Woohoo!

    Tony,

Derek told me that you guys sourced a 530 chain for the VFR fairly quickly. That must have saved a lot of grief.

  4. Cry me a river and dry yer eyes.

The TV renta-cop has arrived :)

Thanks for your ever-so graceful correction and sunny perfection on that one BB.

I'll now do a days pennance and pray not to offend your grace in the future :D

Pigh I've replied to your PM with directions, hope that helps mate.

I knew you meant Fast Corner, I try to be just a tad more diplomatic. Mind you I had a bit of chuckle to myself when you said it. Aek couldn't really tell me a good reason for the name. It must have started off in Bangkok probably.

  5. Ok, the place north-east of the moat does not sell mesh jackets.

It does sell leather jackets, bottoms and light/heavy duty biker boots.

Gloves are for sale there too *I think*. All this is 2nd hand gear btw.

I bought my leather jacket from here for about 1000 baht and haven't looked back.

The place for mesh jackets and the other fancy gear is Speedy Corner in Pantip Plaza. They are on the ground floor.

    Biker%20Jacket.jpg

Last time I was in it was mostly yellow corn stuff.

    They sell 'real' helmets.

There is another place that is south west of the moat, but you can only get to it by heading north from airport plaza and it's on your left after the Honda dealership place.

Now he sells what looks like geniune helms but some bikers have advised caution and warned he might be selling copies. I've looked at some of his helms and they looked darned convincing. Having said that he was majorly p&ssed off at me taking pictures in his shop. Be that as it may here's the helms from there:

    HelmetFullfaceImport.jpg

You can get the air-bag-jackets from this place too.

If you need directions to the second-hand place pm me.

Thankyou so much, very helpful :)

I lived in Chiang Mai for over 5 years and dealt with Aek at Fast Corner for many genuine accessories. If you Google Fast Corner you shouldn't have a problem. All his expensive is kept under lock and key in his central display. He sells titanium, mesh jackets, Yellow Corn gear, I have seen the odd Arai (they're not cheap, but it all depends on the price you put on your headane closed or open casket). Aek got all my K&N Filters for my 04R1 plus the maintenance kit. I haven't talked to him in a year or so but imagine he is still in business. If you want some phone numbers, send me a PM.

    Cheers Garry

  6. I haven't read all the pages, but whoever is debunking the measuring system with this tape haven't done their homework. I haven't seen the tape first hand but it would seem that the manufacturers are using a simple progressive scale to measure AVERAGE diameter of an erect penis. No male on this planet has a perfectly round penis shaft if you where hypothetically cut it in two and view the but area, its not going to be perfectly round. Make sense? I'm sure if this tape were to be layed out flat, the increments would not be exactly the same distance apart. The logic of how the tape measures makes sense to me...

  7. Just FYI - I don't attach mine to the bike, just keep it with me. Never had a problem about it. Only been asked for it once or twice over the years when stopped, not a problem as long as its in hand.

That is sound advice. I've had a few registered and insured big bikes in the Middle East. In Oman there is no requirement for labels to be fitted, as labels are not issued. As long as you have your registration/insurance card on your person if stopped, all is good. I used to have labels holders get long term UV exposure in Australia and entemutally fall off through vibration. Keeping it on your person makes sense.

  8. "I know... most of you guys want it as loud as possible, probably from riding loud bikes for decades which destroyed your hearing... or because it's so much fun to scare the locals."

I always wear earplugs, loud exhaust or not and I don't find them inconvenient at all. Certainly more convenient than hearing loss! Back in the US and Japan I felt no need for a loud pipe, but here in Thailand they are an effective way of clearing the road of dogs and waking up sleepy Somchais. :)

Ditto on the ear plugs and clearing the roads, make way for my Hyper you sleepy Somchai's.

Oh sorry about that officer the DB killers must have fallen out, did your water buffalo give birth early?

  9. I just sent an email to Chumphol at Ducati Bangkok, to let me know how much the DUCATI HYPERMOTARD 1100EVO SP will be and when the first delivery will be to Thailand?

I have a holding deposit ready to lay down.

I know this isn't the SP in the photo but I'm liking it already. http://hypermotards.net/

    Garry,

Great looking bike and the same engine as mine (although tweeked if its an EVO SP i'm sure). It's that single swinging arm again, they just look so good, just like the old VFR Honda's.

Let us know how you get on.

    Thanks thaieagle67,

I've been itching to ride the Chiang Rai-Chiang Mai-Chiang Rai road on a big bike for years. I just sold my Middle East 2004 R1 (bought new) and ready for fulltime riding in Thailand. So looking forward to the twisties up there. Even my wife is happy I'm buying it. With Ducati hopefuly opening up a branch in Chiang Mai in the first quarter of next year, I have even more excuses to ride down from Chiang Rai.

    Cheers

    Garry,

I am looking forwarded to getting up that way as well. My wife comes from Phrae and they have some great roads up to Nan, Lampang, CR, CM, etc. The road across the top between CM & CR is fun in the car, so it will be great on a bike. There is also a great back road (the 1023) from the North West side of Phrae provincial town across the mountains and then meeting with the road up to Chiang Mai.

The problem i have is getting there from Chonburi. With no access to the toll ways it will be a long journey and will deffinately have a case of sore rear end once i get to Phrae (even with the comfy Monster seat). A few Chang's and a good nights kip should sort that out though!

I can't wait to get back to LOS, get back on the bike and start to really explore the roads.

I'm like an expectant father. Chum and Ducati BKK will let me know as soon as the new model is available. My wife knows how long I have been looking forward to riding up here. I have a British mate in BKK who owns a black Duati 1098S. Or the more fun.

  11. Wow, this is really some crazy stuff...makes you sweat even watching it.

    Never seen chostie before ??

5 DVD's of this last time I looked.. His original upsala run is pure nuts.

Thinks he given up now that he let his identity out.

Saw a picture wonewhere where Ghosty tore a Pilot Power to pieces, chunks of treads missing from a run.

  12. I don't try to get into the mentioning of the idiotic local riding rule of the 'no look right, left turn'. The amount of times riders observing this rule have had almost 2 tons of SUV climbing all over their asses. dumbasses

It's not smart, but once you get used to it, you can adjust your driving to it. Small soi on the left == some motorbike might sprint out of it and not look right or brake. So you stay a little bit away from the side of the road and be prepared to brake and in the worst case the karma motorist ("good karma - I won't get hit!") will be able to squeeze onto the street to your left.

Same as the "oncoming traffic turning right on intersection goes first" rule. I don't think I'll ever get used to it (does it make any sense?? no!) but I can live with it :)

Don't get me wrong, I am used to it and try to drive accordingly but once in a blue moon I drop my guard a tad and almost go into squishing mode.

Ducati just released the Multistrada 1200...hmmmm, don't know what to think Ducati Mulitstrada 1200 Gallery

  13. I'm just happy to be in Northern Thailand where this is not an issue. Commiserations to the riders in Bangkok and surrounds. Hopefully the law makers will eventually see some practicality on the issue & concerns raised and adjust the laws accordingly.

  14. The leakage had pumped up to 400 barrels of oil into the Timor Sea each day since Aug 21.

I just did the rough max math on the Montara well spill: 74 days X 400 = 29600 barrels / 424,300 US gallons. The rig being 200kms out from my home soil hopefully may help it break up. It can't be good for the environment and Australian waters if the slick creeps into coastal areas.

  15. This is probably worth a shot and is not intrusive.

LINK: Remove Car Dents in Minutes on the Cheap

Supermarkets are a car’s worst nightmare. I recently left my unsuspecting car in the parking lot of my local target and what did I find when I came back? Some jerk had plowed his grocery cart straight into the passenger side of my car. “Great!” So I either needed to find a quick fix on the cheap, or, stop eating meals for a while. Luckily a few days earlier, I had seen an article about just that! A quick fix in only 2 steps for under $5!

    What you will need:

◦A can of Compressed Air (Such as a Keyboard Duster)

    ◦A Hairdryer

    Directions:

1.Heat the dent with the Hair Dryer for about 30 seconds

2.Turn the can of compressed air upside down and apply for 10 seconds

3.Wait for the ice to dry off and wipe the area clean.

If it works, the dent should pop up and look much better than before. I tried this on my car and it worked very well. It’s still a bit noticeable but much less than before. Try it out on your car and tell us how it worked!
