You will be able to get most things you a can get everywhere else, but you may need to shop around.
PSI 10' dual band or Dynasat 7.5' dual band move dishes are good for free to view TV albeit they come crippled on the DVS-S and DVB-S2 receiver front so you need to add the other satellites and transponders in their set top boxes. If your installer is worth his salt you will get about 120 free Ku band channels on Thaicom and NNS6. Make sure they (your installers) set it up from 68e to 169e which will mean a 24' actuator not the 18' they sell to keep the price down.
This will equate to over 1,720 FTA channels in all languages across 32 satellites..
Also make sure they will support you going forward (this is a biggy)
When you get used to that (make sure the set top box does both SD/HD i.e DVB-s and DVB-S2) get a decent set top box (and dish mover)
-
well there you go, get a move dish and never a problem ..
-
If you are an expat like many on TV why would you use Thaicom?
There is so much choice these days both free to view and payTV .. We get over 32 satellites here in Thailand. so there is so much choice ..
-
If you have a free-to-air, C/KU band dish TV setup there are some Laotian and middle east channels to watch...a couple with English language.
Everything is live here too on satellite TV and IPTV .. It was funny seeing Richard Quest on CNN saying no one in Thailand can see "quest means business"

One good think about either satellite TV or IPTV during times like this they still work and you still see everything.

So, what do you recommend for a buffer free international streaming?
I do not recommend any ISP as what works for me, might or might not work for you.
-
if you want to do a real test then use this one and set it to the Singapore server ..

About the sband signal in bk and ne
Reception ok with 2,4
In Chiang may with 3 meter no signal!
In attach picture of setupA simple little dynasat 5.5 foot Cband dish will work very well in Bangkok at least mine did. BTW unless you put longer LNB legs on your dish, you have a problem as your FP with your pictured Sband LNB will be way off it they are original legs for that dish. 65db on a 5.5 foot dynasat dish, but I forget the full CNR readings.
-
Any HD DreamBox will do it as they handle the 2ghz LO IF 100%. The LNB is the issue as it is really big and not easy to find.

You have a pension for going why off topic I see.
No I was not suggesting he did this, if I was I would have suggested it as you did. And for the reason you stated re: data usage, is why I did not suggest it.
I was however, taking exception to your comment that 3G would not do IPTV which clearly is the opposite to what you stated above, it does it just fine.
-
never reached my monthly limit yet, so I guess the answer is somewhere over a month. The point is and was that 3G does IPTV just fine.
-
You will need a reasonably good internet line (forget 3G mobile internet)...
Not true at all - here is Sky News HD via 3G on my Tablet ..

I cannot find those channels, unless it is a premium package.
You will find them all FREE (not subscription - never has been as free is free) on XBMChub.com
My MX BBC player is here http://www.xbmchub.com/forums/forums/165-MX-REPOSITORY along with a few others as I am also a developer for XBMC based here in Bangkok.

on my XBMC it has all the EPG and is free ..
How do you get the program guide, and what kind of bandwidth do you have to watch the channels free without buffering?
As I mentioned above it is free and uses the free addons from XBMCHUB and no subscription required.. 2mbis (200k) of international bandwidth is all you need for perfect streaming, or use my free MX BBC Player If you need help with XBMC pop by my XBMC repo where I am always happy to help at http://www.xbmchub.com/forums/forums/165-MX-REPOSITORY and use the apps there if you want..

Oz satellites are probably below the horizon when viewed from Thailand
No not at all, the are well with in our view, the issue is on the Ku band, there are simply no global beams or spot beams no spill over and no footprint to Thailand.
See for yourself at http://www.optus.com.au/network/satellite/coverage

Overseas footy fans could be short-changed
AFL fans overseas could be affected by budget cuts to the Australia Network
FANS in the Asia Pacific are facing a battle to watch regular AFL matches following confirmation that funding to the ABC's Australia Network will be cut.The federal government confirmed the move in its budget announcement on Tuesday night in Canberra.
The future of the channel remains up in the air, with the government not ruling out a commercial operator taking over the spectrum, which broadcasts Australian television content to approximately 44 countries.
Australia Network currently broadcasts up to four games each round via satellite into homes and hotels.
The broadcasts are particularly popular with tourists and expatriates.
"Fans in the Asia Pacific will still be able to watch AFL matches via the Australia Network until further notice," an AFL spokesman said on Wednesday.
The AFL is working on alternate means to transmit games into the region.
"In the meantime, the AFL is in ongoing discussions with the ABC regarding the options available for continuation of television coverage of AFL matches into the Asia/Pacific market, reflecting its significance to our code and the growth of Australian football internationally," the spokesman said.
"AFL Fans in the Asia Pacific should also note that all AFL matches and AFL highlights are available via WatchAFL, the international streaming service that allows people to view every game live or on demand on their desktop, mobile or tablet."

(1) do not waste your money on a 25 meter dish (yes 25m) as it will not work, even the commercial CAT 25m dishes down in Chomburi can not see the Optus birds
(2) get an IPTV box which will do it for you.
(3) or get an other payTV network that has the sport you want like Indovision or Fiji TV on IS19
-
Even though no pay, a work permit is still needed.
-
Coax would mean RF output I am guessing .. so fine tune your TV for the RF channel the set top box is set to, you see what channel that is by reading the user manual to see when in its settings it is located.
-
strange you would suggest that, maybe you should look at my free addons on XBMCHUB.com as they work perfect even in the USA at http://www.xbmchub.com/forums/forums/165-MX-REPO
