  1. And in hospitals it is for free?

Home test is wee on a strip. Cost 40-80bht. Takes 5 minutes

Hospital test (government) is blood sample, free for Thais, maybe 200bht for a foreigner. Couple of hours wait for the lab work.

Yes, good to know, I had no idea what the pregnancy test cost, but I thought it was very expensive when she said it. That is also why I asked for a receipt, but I doubt I will get one.

  2. My GF did a home pregnancy test this morning.

Just asked her how much -- 45 Baht or 50 Baht (she can't remember the exact price) from 7-11. They sell them at the counter.

    OP is being scammed.

I used a 40 bht one, and the answer was inconclusive.

Pharmacist advised the slightly more expensive at 60 and 80 bht gave clearer results ....... and the 60 bht one was conclusive.

Ok, this is really interesting, she claims it cost 1500 thb to do a check up at the hospital. And maybe a little cheaper somewhere at a clinic where she comes from outside of Bangkok.

So already at this stage, I could probably bust her balls by not telling the truth if it only cost 45-80 thb,

And in hospitals it is for free?

I actually feel a little sorry for her though, if it turns out, she did do some kind of abortion and had to pay 6500 thb, and only lied about the pregnancy test fee. Even though that is bad enough.

  3. Follow these simple steps.

Step 1. Go to pharmacy and buy a couple of pregnancy tests. Cost maybe 200 baht.

Step 2. Pee on the pregnancy test - important she pees, and not you

Step 3. Check pregnancy test with results on box - there will be 2 options - positive (congratulations) or negative (phew)

Step 4. If she is pregnant, get expert medical advice and make an informed decision and do things correctly and safely. Ignore myths.

Step 5. If she is not pregnant, you know you have been scammed and it's time to move on.

If she refuses step 1, 2 or 3, you have been scammed. Move on.

Yeah, that is what I should have done, the problem is, she already said she "took it out". So there is no way I can check if she is pregnant or not.

  4. By the OP's post it sounds like she tested ( 1500 THB )

Also she already had the abortion ( 6500 THB )

    According to her anyway.

On the one hand she could be telling you the truth

but then again you do not know her well as you say.

So she may just be hitting you up for 8000 THB

Well, it could be much more as well, as she says she can not work for 2 months. And that she might need some compensation for that.

  5. Pregnancy test at hospital free.

Pregnancy test at home 60bht for the good ones.

Buy one, get her to wee in a cup, do the test yourself ...... takes about 5 minutes for the result.

It's a scam 9/10 times (especially if the bogus test cost 1500bht).

Abortion in Thailand is against the law, do not pay money to her to have one .... real or imagined.

Yes, I know its illegal, I am not gonna pay.

Hypothetically, if she did an "abortion", and I am almost sure it is just bullshit.

Would it seem possible that she would have to undergo such a drastic treatment that she would have to stay home from work for 2 months? And plus, she tells me she is so tired now, she have to sleep all the time. After all, her period was late for only 2 weeks. To me it seems like, at the most, there was a small sperm, that just found the egg, and nothing else. And that a pill would have solved the problem

  6. A girl friend, I know, but not so well, and I, had sex a few times, only when we got drunk.

The thing is, she normally have her period around the 23rd, but last month, she did not have her period, she told me, she wanted to do a check up, so this Monday, 4th, she went to check (she said it cost 1500 thb?) and she said, she was pregnant and now she had to "take out" what was going to be a baby.

I know there could not have been a baby yet (of course), and I know she did not try to make me believe it, but she said "she had to take it out", and that it costed her 6500 thb.

She also said she will not be able to work for 2 months, and not be able to have sex for 2 months (no she does not freelance, at least that is what she told me). And she will probably figure out some financial compensation for that.

In my mind, I would think, if her period was delayed for 2 weeks, and it was because she was pregnant, the pregnancy can not have gone very far. And if this is true, should it not be enough with some kind of a pill or something? And would it really cost 6500 thb?

  7. I think many people would feel hesitant to do it, of course because of the obvious Visa and citizen hassle, but also, when people stop referring to us as farang all the time. I do not refer to them as dark skin all the time. It is just a very clumsy term, and it does not make us feel motivated to call this home, even though I have been living here for MANY years.Come to think of it, I think I should begin to refer to them as dark skin as soon as they call me farang.

  8. Now what do you think of thai medical care. my kids think British is best. But I think not.by a long way. you're lucky to get medical care in Britian, in fact you may wait more than a week to get an appointment to see a GP ! My kids do.

Yes kudos to the Thai medical emergency services and the hospital staff.

Had anything gone wrong or if he had not recovered this well, I'm sure this thread would be pages long now with all the gossipy old dears speculating on how he fell and the inadequate ambulance services or the third world medical standards and comparing it all to the fantastic treatment he would have received back in Farang-Utopia-Land.

Since it seems to have ended as well as could be hoped for, it must be a major disappointment to the cabal of Thai Bashers.

I totally agree with this. Good post!

  9. I have had taxis refuse to use the meter around Soi 4, but usually only have to wait a minute or so to catch one who uses the meter.

But why do they do it? It is because they can get away with it. this whole scam thing that some taxi drivers tries to pull on us is getting annoying.

  10. It seems there are people on this forum that think it's either all bad, or all good. But, facts are facts. It doesn't matter what happens 'in the west' , or that America has started some wars that you may or may not disagree with

    examples of typical TV threads

A: 'There's a lot of littering in Thailand..'

B:' America pollutes the world with it's factories and burning of fossil fuels'

A: 'My wife just got handed cash to vote for a local candidate'

B ' In the west we're all bought through media advertising'

The reason is that it is almost always implied that it is only here in Thailand this problem exists, and that in our own country it is so much better. That is the reason we sometimes needs to inform you that it is in fact just as bad in other countries.

    So, for example:

A: I embarrassed a thai guy in front of many people, I made him look like an ass, and then he got pissed off at me, how come this "save face" thing is such a big thing here in Thailand??

Then I, and many others feel the need to tell you that:

B: No one likes to be embarrassed in public, it has nothing to do with saving face and being Thai. Even Westerners prefer to not be humiliated in public.

  11. Do Westerners consider every Thai woman they pass is such an easy girls they could pick her up in minutes?

    Yes, very often

What do the honourable members think of some/many foreigners outrageously flirty attitude towards complete stranger Thai women in public places

Embarrassing to watch. Even the most shy and non attractive westerner will begin to act as he was a superstar within a few weeks.

Recently in a daily conversation on Skype, she told me with a laugh that some foreigners sometimes try to strike up a conversation, having in common the same question coming jokingly after a short time " Do you have a boy friend?"

In a Western country one could hardly ask bluntly such a question to a woman utter stranger, I mean in a super market or in the street.

    Yes, I agree

I know many Western men consider Thailand kind of a hunting ground for their favourite sport :-)

But believing each Thai woman they pass can be approach in the streets or shopping centers, IMHO is a bit too much .

    I totally agree

  12. No offense, but if they failed me, I would just study harder so they won't fail me next time

    wai.gif

If I had made major mistakes that would be reasonable. She acutually complimented me durring my test saying other than (in her opinion though my teachers disagree) the 2 letters I said wrong that i have "The best pronunciation of anyone she has tested in alphabet class"

Were you also the most handsome man who ever took the test?

  13. Beats being called 'the farang' by people you supposedly have known for long.

I would rather be known as the stinking Falung then a papa.

Some Thai women call me Lung or Uncle, I hate that and haven`t been promoted to a papa yet, but getting there.

Well we all have get old sometime. One option is to mix with people older than yourself, it may make you feel better.

The problem is, most foreigners who comes to Thailand, aren´t gonna hang out with too many thai ladies over 60

  14. Has the OP ever been in a relationship with a woman who does speak perfect English? Trust me it's not all that great!

I have only heard two women speak what I consider perfect English. Queen Elizabeth and my grandmother. Although I really loved granny and liked her cooking I don't think she would have been a lot of fun on a date.

Well, you should be thankful that at least someone found her interesting enough to go on a date, otherwise you would not be here

  15. she wants some relationship and a better life, she has to move more than me, I am the piper, if you get my drift. There are lots of girls where I am who would love to speak to me but cannot because they dont speak my language, all they can do is pour my Chang or Leo and smile

    Dude, you sound absolutely awesome!

Are you like a celebrity or something, or are you just an delusional average joe?

  16. My friend found his girlfriend on the internet, he speaks ZERO Thai, and she spoke ZERO English, a translator helped her get together with my friend. She is from Isaan. They met, they smiled, and communicated with gestures, and my friend thought, this is love.

They are actually still together, after 6 years. I don´t know how they manage to do it, but somehow, it seems to work for them.

  17. I am just waiting for him to mention that he is indeed very handsome.

And when he does you will give him a special price on a gaming computer?

No I am attracted to girls, and i do not have any gaming computer for sale.

I just remember reading his other posts were he used to point out that he was very handsome, usually out of the blue with no reason, so I figured he might do it in this thread as well.

  18. Death stuff in your own country is probably similar but you don't hear all. sad.png

I know that people get killed every day back where I'm from, but not foreigners. There just seems to be an awful lot dying over here wether it be by their own hand or that of another.

Thailand attracts a high amount of strange, criminals, drug addicts, retired and bitter people.

They live a violent and dramatic life over here.
