  2. Cyber-attack threat escalating - Europol

Friday's cyber-attack has affected more than 200,000 victims in 150 countries, Europol chief Rob Wainwright says.

Speaking to Britain's ITV, he said the world faced an escalating threat, and there was concern about the level of potential attacks on Monday morning.

The virus took control of users' files, demanding payments; Russia and the UK were among the worst hit countries.

Security experts have warned that another attack is imminent and could be unstoppable.

  3. Amazing to me that they can't follow the money.  Seems like by sending ransom money to an account and then tracking that would lead to something somewhere. In the end the bad guys want the money.

No, they can't follow the money. When I checked last time, they earned about 18k usd. Not a lot actually. But, most people don't have an Bitcoin account. It takes a few days to open such an account. This money runs trough the darknet. There are some money laundering services there. No way to trace the money.

There are very bad things on the darknet. Drugs, weapons, Profi killers to hire and even human trafficking.

Edward Snowden used darknet to communicate with the guardian journalist. Even the NSA had no chance to intercept or control this exchange of informations.

  4. A new variant has been detected already and this one doesn't have the sandbox detection killswitch inside it so everything's going to go nuts now.

I just searched for a source. Found only this.

This guy seems to have a deep insight into this.

He also said, the worm is still spreading since the killswitch doesn't work on proxy and several ISP. He expect a big shock at Monday.

    That's all quite scarry.

  5. And even more alarming:

Many NHS trusts still use Windows XP, a version of Microsoft’s operating system that has not received publicly available security updates for half a decade, and even those which are running on newer operating systems are often sporadically maintained.

Believe me or not, but I saw the Windows XP logo on Thai ATM and on computers in Thai bank branches.

  6. It was this patch;

Microsoft Security Bulletin MS17-010 - Critical

Security Update for Microsoft Windows SMB Server (4013389)

    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/security/ms17-010.aspx?ranMID=24542&ranEAID=TnL5HPStwNw&ranSiteID=TnL5HPStwNw-sqQhNApgA.Smv1cgQL3e5A&tduid=(197031599f8fe50d3b054eacc9bd784b)(256380)(2459594)(TnL5HPStwNw-sqQhNApgA.Smv1cgQL3e5A)()

But I can't find this update in my update history.

Edit: This patch was for my System. Windows 7 x64.

It's  the patch i marked on the previous post.

Just tried to download the patch from March for offline installation on an older W7 PC.

Microsoft site is overloaded (Microsoft Update Catalog).

Got a "not found" after minutes of waiting.

EDIT: another attempt for the 32 bit version was successful.

    (about 2 min waiting)

How to be sure to have this patch already? I just got the May Security update.

  8. Hi.

After the stamp is transferred and the person leaves the country (for example for a visa run), is it advisable to take the old passport with them? May be the the I/O at the border or at the embassy wants to see the old passport?

Last time the immigration did just tack together the two passports. Was there a special reason for that, or it's depend on the I/O?

    Thanks.
