  1. I often wonder what is the (ROI) return on investment on these solar farms. It's got to be a pretty penny taking into consideration the domestic panels cost. How long before they pay off the capital debt before production? Heavy copper transmission cables ain't free
  2. I use the delivery apps quite often. I seldom order from fast food restos though. It saves me fighting traffic at 4-5 pm when I usually order my dinner.I also cook most b/f though.
  3. Very observant of you. When I first darkened these shores in 2004 they were working on Pattaya Beach Rd. A spin past the other day showed construction activity still. The gift that keeps on giving. Another example is the useless low cement barriers on Thepprasit Rd.along with light standards. Installed by an uncle only to be removed by same in a couple years time. A big joke.
  4. Same situation in Canada I hear, 1 year wait to see a specialist...but it's not free because the various and many taxes are very high.
  5. Assisted Living in Thailand My thoughts. "Retired and Living the dream" this YT vlogger ran this article recently..have a look
  6. Yes it does, but the urge to be frugal never leaves you,I still yack at the old lady to shut off the bathroom light when you leave the room.
  7. Ditto here, back home was/is a p___y desert or very pricey. Inexpensive female company was a huge draw for me to these shores plus 5 months of bone chilling winters didn't have any more appeal. I love the tropical weather.
  8. Sounds similar to my path. I officially took early retirement in 2005 at 55yo.Move to LOS and was offered work in O&G.Made good $ for a few years then quit for health issues. While working I bought a house here and saved a bit and didn't piss it all away. Now at 72 I receive pensions and actually consider myself blessed as I worked for 30 years cheque to cheque and hated that as now I don't have to count pennies anymore. Quitting drinking a year ago paid huge dividends also.
  9. Good point, I was in Shanghai and Bejing walking the local streets near my hotel to have a look around when I started to feel uneasy. I also had issues getting it insured. 30 years ago we used to wear the 500 baht copies around the bars all over Pattaya and never got so much as a second glance. For that amount I probably wouldn't have put up much resistance.
  10. I think its called "word salad" intentionally to confuse. I actually bought a Rolex Submariner back when I was working. The dealer shop was in Siam Square. I assumed it was all above board.I sold it after 1 year as I was traveling a lot at the time and got way too many stares and looks that it made me fear I was going to get robbed/mugged.I could have got a replica for 1k.
  11. Good point...my 1st reaction was "no way" after a moments thought and envisioning him pulling out a tire iron from under the seat and him hitting me over the head and me getting charged for assaulting the driver.TIT pay up..
  12. When I worked in the ME I had to spend time in Dubai and was getting visa on arrival and like you say it suddenly stopped. It caused a lot of logistical issues for the people arranging my flights etc. I'm a Canuck also and from what I see online Canada is quickly turning into a 3rd world sh__ hole. I thank my lucky stars I relocated to LOS several years ago.
  13. I wonder how many of the old timers on 1 year extensions were in that group? I say leave the old boys alone and focus on the real troublemakers. Seniors are usually tucked in by midnight. 555
  14. Or take him to BPH emergency and a 10k + bill. Reminds me of an incident several years ago at PIH. I was in the room getting some stitches removed from a minor operation. An Indian fellow was across from me just finished up getting several bandages applied from a moto accident. The nurse brought the bill for about 2500 ฿ and he said way too much I'll give you 1 thousand...just like the fish market.
  15. Maybe so, I was referring to the kind that arrive in rubber boats with their hands out. Quite unlike us old gits who pay our way.
  16. We did similiar but a smaller area.Cleared everything, sprinkled coarse industrial salt down (cheap) then layed heavy plastic and covered the whole area with decorative rock that we had. Pea gravel would work to.Maybe slabs would be less expensive. No sign of weeds so far.
  17. yes..turn key revolving door 555
  18. HF..very good point...many consider the 800k an emergency fund. However as you say, the moment they use it they've effectively nullified their visa. They may find themselves ill, broke and in a country with only a 30 day permit to stay. yikes
  19. Yes , opening beauty salons is a good one followed by laundromats.Coffee kiosks are also on the list.I've witnessed all of these over the years (by others) exactly zero have worked out for the farang financier. One well off Canuck donated 50k usd for a resto that her family now operate...555
  20. Back in the day we cut our 2 week vacay short by 1 week exactly for that reason.LOS is multiple times better IMHO.
  21. Hi BMT, yes I visited there briefly in the past but its not 1st on my list. With all the rumbling about the IO rules possibly changing I'm undecided if I'd go to Cambo or PP. I'm not deeply in love with either place. I did like Battambang though. As long as there is good farang food available.
  22. Agree, my 1st and last vacay there was in early 90,s. The companion fee was "up to you" The only reason Myself and pals never went back was because of the male species..making a Mexican thief look like a choirboy. Plus shotgun toting security guards everywhere.
  23. Now you own it.I've been over there several times over the years and the last thing one does is change ALL local currency to usd for example. A couple months ago they even ahad a bonafide currency exchange in the waiting area upstairs at PP airport. Same rule applies for the Laos (kip) script. I jokingly asked for 1 kilo once at a money changer. 10k in Thai baht would fill an overnight bag.
