  1. I call myself a dividend hound.I never made a ton of $ buying dividend stocks but never lost a penny. I used to use the DRIP scheme to great advantage. I'm out of the game now but in my case it was a winning formula. I'd recommend this strategy to anyone. Even the Thai REIT "CPNRF" paid a good divy for years.
  2. I remeber once when I lived in Issarn the 2 next door girls about 15 yo came over do do some chores around the house and the mom came with them and closely watched them and me the whole time. Now I know why.
  3. Correct. He knows the cops for sure because he lives there. He's being protected. She doesn't stand a chance for justice. This doesn't pass the sniff test.
  4. I also agree with you.If at home in a familiar place ok, but not in a foreign country.
  5. Same here,I gave my family Dr (Thai) a copy of my living will aka DNR Form...she told me she wished more elders would do that. I'm almost 73. IMHO its not how long you live but the quality of life. I won't want to have to be taken to a hospital 3 times a week for dialysis for example or having to wear a pamper every day like a baby. I've had more than my share of illnesses, operations etc. and enough already. My family has been taken care of so I can rest in peace. My only regret is that I wish I had quit drinking much sooner than last year. Any time there was a bad event or f up in my life it was all attributed to excessive alcohol.(curse of the working class) is a quote from someone?
  6. Back in the day when me and some buddies were taking about longevity and retirement one said, just take out a tape measure and run it out to 72 and see where you're at. OMG I'm 73 in December!
  7. No no she's uni educated in Kentucky I think. She wrote the prose herself on the back of a napkin while dining at Tiffany's.
  8. Her handler(Tony) is getting her to dip her toe in the water so to speak so the pepes will remember her for when the blanket amnesty is announced. She and bro will be welcomed back with open arms. I say this with a heavy heart.555
  9. What if I was a tourist? How would RD differentiate between a pensioner or someone on a 2 week vacay ?
  10. USA,Canada,Mexico,Tahiti,Moorea,Many Caribbean islands,UK,Norway,Holland,Iran,Iraq,Egypt,Libya,Malaysia,Cambodia,Laos,Philippines,Vietnam,China,Australia,New Zealand.I may have forgot a couple and the ME sh_t h__les were for work.
  11. A trick I learnt in Issarn is to keep a large garbage bin (new) full of water in the shower/bathroom. Cover it with a lid and its ready to use for a splash shower or to flush the toilet when power is out. Of course you already knew that. For the computer and a fan a simple set up of a solar panel and auto battery will to for a few hour outage.A few other parts will include a regulator etc YT has tone of examples for DIY and not too expensive.
  12. BMT Correct 100%. Its easy money for them and they don't have to deal with the smelly farang face to face. If the agent visas were discontinued the Imm officers would lose a pile of money and their offices would become very busy.
  13. Oh my,Maybe ask the wife and family of the police Major who was shot 7 times at Kaman Nok,s police party.Yes, best cops in the world?
  14. bb, yes a very good assessment you've made in my opinion. Can you imagine the headlines of an expat forum ( LOS is now taking a ?% witholding tax on all incoming funds to Thai bank accounts) > all foreigners will now have to file a tax return to show proof that tax has been paid and claim it back < 555 Laughable really.
  15. Buri...that,s exactly my situation. My govt gives me a tax exemption on my pensions because they are under a certain threshold . But will the RD recognize this documents? Thats my question.I know...wait and see...Sounds like a huge paper shuffle in the works.
  16. I agree but in this case he was working offshore and had to leave his lady in charge while away. The workers told her to stay away and that they knew what they were doing (not) He told me the whole thing was a nightmare. As a side note they split up later that year anyway and he walked away. Its a good thing he was making good money.
  17. Yes another sad story.A friend some years back decided to have a custom house built on the "dark side" of Pattaya. At the time he was working 28/28 rota so his wife/gf was there half the time. They f___ed up just about everything you could imagine. His advice to me> never build from scratch. Buy a house in an area you like and rebuild/redo as you like.Way easier and probably less expensive.
  18. Actually I find myself in that category.Through certain provisions in the Cdn tax code my pensions are tax exempt. I pay zero IT on my retired income. My question is will the Thai RD respect that.I have the printed document in front of me.Food for thought.
  19. Correct, when I bought my house in Pattaya the pump would cycle several times day/night even when not in use.A lot of the blue pipes were buried and some digging and investigating showed some dodgy plumbing which I bypassed and eliminated . Off/on cycling stopped immediately. The pump shouldn't be running unless water is leaking out or as someone mentioned faulty non return valve. Working with the local blue plastic tubing is simple, You Tube is your friend. Get your hands dirty and have a good look.
  20. I am in a similar situation as yourself.I pay no income tax on my pensions because it is below a certain threshold also. I won,t be able to prove that I have paid tax already.I have a letter from the tax dept stating about the tax exemption. Wait and see I suppose.
  21. Believe it or not this is one chap who I thought was above all this cr_p. I guess I was wrong. How could he not notice 30 team members doing anything out of line. I'm flabbergasted. 555
