  1. Agree, my 1st and last vacay there was in early 90,s. The companion fee was "up to you" The only reason Myself and pals never went back was because of the male species..making a Mexican thief look like a choirboy. Plus shotgun toting security guards everywhere.
  2. Now you own it.I've been over there several times over the years and the last thing one does is change ALL local currency to usd for example. A couple months ago they even ahad a bonafide currency exchange in the waiting area upstairs at PP airport. Same rule applies for the Laos (kip) script. I jokingly asked for 1 kilo once at a money changer. 10k in Thai baht would fill an overnight bag.
  3. I've been saying that for years. It's easy money for them and they don't have to deal with us foreign devils.I check the signature on my Visa every time and its exactly the same person. I'm told the agents only receive a fraction of the fee.
  4. Careful...you can go blind that way.. Just do it until you have to wear glasses..
  5. I read somewhere that India had the largest number of English speakers in the world?
  6. It depends if you are a non resident status or not.I'm a declared non resident retired in Thailand. I'm only familiar with form NR5. I filed under that and was granted a tax reduction for a period of 5 years.Otherwise all Canadian income is subject to the 25% withholding tax. Non resident is the key. I left Canada in 2004.

  9. Correct Smedly...problem is that most likely some cops may own some of the rental shops
  10. Ditto,I hired a local tiler and I didn't actually get too deep into it but he did an excellent job and I get many compliments on the work. Over 10 years ago zero issues.
  11. So sad so true. Nothing will change in the foreseeable future. My experience with police enforcement was a cop hiding in some bushes near Prachinburi jumping out and telling us we were speeding and seeing the farang driver asked my wife for 200 baht for coffee or we would have to report to the station in Thai. She turned to me and said..give me 100 baht please for the police..555 we still laugh about that one.
  12. Yes it was a while ago..This was when his drivers (ex) , maids Et Al became suddenly very wealthy. The tax collector was on vacay in Hawaii. Thats a lot of cake..his siblings would have problems spending it all. Is Yingluck standing by at Heathrow?
  13. Explainer: What does Hun Sen’s resignation mean? Means absolutely nothing. Like the old sitcom"All in the family" They all live in the same pigsty and massive poverty prevails.I've been several times and it's not difficult to see impoverished citizens everywhere.
  14. Free and fair election? His opponents were either banned, exiled or jailed.Well done.Corrupted cousin of LOS.
  15. Sound advice.A Thai lady friend was caught in a similar situation. She worked for Thai/Japanese company for several years. They promoted her and then piled on so many extra duties that she barley coped and made it virtually impossible to continue. She quit. Therefore she lost any severance she would have gotten otherwise. Dirty rotten b_____ds.
  16. What a bloody mess. Democracy takes a back seat to the cartel. Really though, is anyone surprised?
  17. When my step daughter got her 1st decent paying job after uni she got a credit card easily. She charged up so much so could no longer make the minimum payments. She eventually had to go to court and make an offer to thru the judge to forgive most of the debt. Now she can't get a cc. BTW she wasn't living with us at the time or it wouldn't have gotten that far. PS: Does anyone out there want to buy some slightly used ladies shoes from a large selection?
  18. You can add government employees to your list.Ask me how I know..lol
  19. As soon as my sister in law got her gov't job they borrowed 1mil. Her salary? 15k Now they are slaves to the bank. I do believe that is typical here.
  20. You've just explained it all in a nutshell. Maybe he was coerced or fibbed to to get this transaction through before the light came on.
  21. I think its the 300 baht nurses fee tacked onto your bill. Easy money.
  22. 5 years ago at BPH the total bill for the overnight and colonoscopy was north of 80k.
