We used Air B&B for the 1st time last fall on a 3 week vacy to Vietnam. Very impressed with costs, location etc.

Many to chose from. You can specify kitchen, washer cable.Had everything.Being able to cook was great.

I'll opt for these over hotel rooms anytime.

Now lets just get over this Wu flu and get on with life.

At this time there is no way I'm leaving the country what with all the hoops to get back in.OMG/<deleted>.

It is going to get better in many ways, and worse in some - for some better and for some not - same as always.

Never give in and never give up - tomorrow is always another day - and then there are no more - so make the most of each one - especially today.

Thats a non statement if I've ever heard one."If things don't change they,ll stay the same" ?

    Let me get this straight!

You are asking a complete stranger to accompany a dying person on a flight from Thailand to Canada. You do realise that the person would then have to go into State Quarantine when returning to Thailand. Before that they would also lose their Thai visa and be stuck in Canada. (they may also need a visa for Canada)  They would have to apply for a new visa, which could take a month or more in Canada and the only way to get one is if you have a Thai family. So they would be also sacrificing not only 100's of thousand of Baht but they risk being stuck in Canada away from their Thai family, in the middle of the greatest crisis of this century. You haven't really thought this request through fully, have you?? or is there also a package you would like them to carry too??

Claffey, All your points make sense. Why would a stranger involve himself in this? I'm Canadian but there is no way I will be returning there any time soon.

The volunteer could be stuck in Canada right in the middle of winter.Does anyone know how cold Edmonton gets? I'm almost 70 and my Thai wife and family have instructions for me to be cremated here. We,ve even picked the temple lol.

I think the family should should try and send someone here to visit.Even that would be a PITA.

I know compassion steps in but under today's restrictions I don't think they'll find many takers .

    Not well thought out sure.

Well try doing a search for your choice of seeds through Lazada BUT make sure to select 'local' or from Thailand only.

I bought those 'Reaper' pepper seeds from Lazada and I might just try to order some more.

Hey Sol..I'll be trying the "reaper" seeds soon also. Please let me know how that went ok? send to me via TV..

    vietnam?

We spent 3 weeks there before Covid and I really liked it! Nah Trang was great. To move is a big undertaking as we'd have to sell our paid up house..whos buying these days in Pattaya?

And the visa runs may be bothersome..no 1 year visas for Canucks.

But it was very easy to get around (Grab) and lots of English spoken.Tons of Ruskies % Chinese tourists everywhere.Thats a bit of a downside. The home-stay  digs we stayed in had China neighbors and they are the s-its.

Each Amphur is different - the idea of needing a certified copy of your Passport is somewhat nuts when you can produce your original passport. I think it's more to do with getting an accurate and certified translation of your name in the yellow book - but that doesn’t account for the Embassy needing to Certify the Copy.

What seems to be needed involves 3 steps:

    1) Obtain Embassy Certified Copy of Passport.

    2) Get a Translation of Certified Copy of Passport.

    3) Get the Translation of Certified Copy of Passport verified by the MFA.

A friend of mine jumped through all the hoops to get this.At the end of the day he said it wasn't worth the hassle...Its not of much use anywhere with a very few exception.Even going to MFA in BKK costs as I don't have a car so other than bus etc.Not to mention an Embassy visit with the appointment etc.I have to get a car /driver.Thats enough for me to say "no thanks" I've managed to live here over 16 years without one.

    22.5bill baht = $713m dollars or $357m per submarine.

Quite a deal when you consider a Sea-wolf class submarine cost $2.8 BILLION and a Virginia class $1.8 BILLION

Maybe you get what you pay for.I hope they can reach the dizzy depths of 200 ft in the gulf..My liable to hit an offshore O%G installation. They probably don't have red flashing lights below the surface.

I can see a lot of guys using agents due to the boarders being closed who are on a Non O visa and dont have the financial requirements. I'm in the process of using an agent myself here in Issan that was recommended by a few guys on this forum for my marriage extension.

I have asked my agent about their connection in immigration and she told me many agents use the same immigration region and pay off the commander in charge who signs off on their extension. Mine cost 25k+ 1k for them to do the 90 day report for me for the year for me as my IO is far from where I live.

I don't know where you live but you're paying double than myself. I pay 12,500 ++ for multiple entry etc.90 day reports are free.Where do you live?

It’s not the “best hospital in Thailand” and neither will you pay the same price locals pay just because you’re married to Thai. Utter nonsense!

My personal experience is very different.I was in Ramathibodi for 5 days last year for surgery. During the registration process they asked my wife if we were married? They told her that after 1 year on marriage we would be charged exactly the same as a Thai.Alas we were married a little shy of that .However the costs were mostly covered by my Aetna policy. If I need any major care in the future I'm heading directly to Ramathibodi . It good for peace of mind that I'll be paying the same as Thais. Don't be put off by the long waits etc.you'll be very happy with the results,I sure was.Its important to take a Thai speaker with you. I saw very few farangs there. Full marks for Ramathibodi !

OP, there are excellent hospitals in Thailand. Sure you may need pay out of pocket here and perhaps you can obtain cheaper option in USA, but imo I would have it done here.

The path back is very difficult and expensive.

Dr Jack, you are correct.I,ve had by pass surgery and also a fight with colon cancer over the years. All fixed and back to normal now.Mostly very good service and my Bupa/Aetna covered most but not all costs.

I wouldn,t even consider going elsewhere for surgery even in "normal" times. If you have no insurance some hospitals will negotiate the costs but that's hearsay.

In the past I've used a gov't hospital in Bkk name Ramathibodi , very busy place but very affordable.Very good care.BTW Its a "teaching' hospital so top doctors. There is no reason to leave Thailand at this time for medical care IMHO.

The use of agents is bigger than many presume. I know a bunch of old guys in Pattaya that think the agents office is the immigration office. A couple of them dont even realise they are using an agent. One old guy very impressed that the immigration office makes him a cup of tea while he waits.

Watching a youtube video the other day, "how much does it cost to live in Thailand" and the guy actually had 40k a year in the budget for his visa.

Hey Peter,Thats made my day.Funny as hell...I told the "old boot" and even she laughed ...Hell would freeze over before the IO in the office made you a cuppa.lol

7 11 has franchise stores and corporate. If your franchise is real busy, they open a corporate store metres away.

Cola,I have personally observed this very event in South Pattaya several years ago. There was a very popular 7 near my moo ban...one day a new 7 one popped up exactly 2 doors down same side of the road.

Within 3 years they were both shuttered.lol They <deleted> all involved.Well done! lol idiots.

Ok, so her is the gist for you Pho King.  The "Boss after the initial impact with the MC applied the brakes of his vehicle after he realized he had struck something, of course that was after the body of the police officer was ejected backwards off of the MC and across the hood of the car before hitting the windscreen.  That braking action would have then ejected the policeman in a forward motion where he rolled back forward and then became trapped under the twisted pieces of the cars front end.  With the clothes stuck on the jagged pieces of the car he would have been then dragged until the clothes tore, and then he became dislodged from the vehicle, and possibly run over by the vehicle, but this is all speculation on my part without having been at the scene afterwards and reviewing all of the physical evidence.  Forensics on the body during the autopsy would also show which parts of the now deceased policeman's body were in touch with certain vehicular components.  Go ahead, you can thank me for my 30 plus years as a traffic accident reconstruction officer, and supervisor of major incident investigations.  If the RTP wants an independent review, I will gladly go over everything they have and lay it out for them.

Ryan,Your points all make sense even to a layman.A person like you is the last one they want to hear from.

Very enlightening statement. This whole case has been a debacle fro m day 1 st BS they tried to pull was to charge the family driver? OMG ..There are scandals in the west to be sure but usually take place behind closed doors but this case is right in your face with no shame attached whatsoever.  Remind you of bananas?

The rule is that if you come here with a nest egg, by hook or by crook she'll get it. The people who have lived here for years are on defined benefit pensions.

mokwit: I'm a good example of a retiree on a defined benefit pension. I worked at a stinking pulp mill for 30 years in Canada. I retired as soon as I could at 55 but took a big hit of 25% on the pension.

<deleted>ty conditions but now I'm thankful for what I get.At 3% I would need to have 700 k in the bank to equal my pension.I'm one of the lucky ones here I see it all the time.So many guys here with 0 or next to no income. DB pensions are slowly being eliminated. "Fat dumb and happy" Dave
