  1. Whilst trying to compare the intel and AMD chips, I came across this article from Techspot which talks specifically about the intel chip that Space Munk suggested........

    "The cheapest quad-core processor that Intel currently has on offer is the Core 2 Quad Q8200. Priced at $150, it is considerably more expensive than the Athlon II X4 620. Although we did not include it in our benchmarks, the Q8200 can be considered slower than the Q6600 as it is clocked 70MHz lower and features half as much L2 cache. This plays out favorably for AMD's budget quad-core part, as the Athlon II X4 620 had no problem beating the Q6600 in the majority of our tests."

    If this is true, then surely I would be paying over the odds for a chip that does not compare so favourably......any opinions please

    whats the link to the article? I wanna see how they tested both chips.

  2. I disagree.

    20K won't get you top of the line, but you can build yourself quite a powerhouse with this kind of cash (monitor not included).

    yeah i spose one could cobble together something semi decent for "around" 20k

    here's a quickie pricelist one from Thanni.com that i threw together, would be adequate i guess.

    Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400 2.66GHz - 6,140.00

    ASUS "P5Q SE PLUS" motherboard - 3,340.00

    Western digital 640gb HDD – 2160.00

    Corsair DDR2 PC- 6400 3gb ram - 1800.00

    Asus gts250 graphics card (512mb ddr3)- 4740.00

    Coolermaster 500w power supply – 1800.00

    Coolermaster elite case - 1200.00

    total = 21180

    Thats a pretty good setup although I am interested to hear what the comparisons are between the intel and the amd chip mentioned previously. I am not looking for top of the line as the premium is never really worth it to a home enthusiast but I would also want a far bigger (1 to 1.5 tb) hard disk and a minimum of 4gb ram but its plain sailing really as I can contact Thanni and ask them to put it together for me

    Thank you for taking the time to put this together for me

    AMD and intel chips are basically on par at stock.

    Only when overclocked Intel blows AMD away. Im talking about AMD X4 940 and higher vs i7core chips.

    CPU - Intel C2Q8200 - 5,740.00 บาท

    Mainboard - Gigabyte GA-EP31-DS3L - 2,180.00 บาท

    Rams - kingston valuerams 2gx2 ddr2 800mhz - 2,360 บาท

    Graphic - Biostar ATi HD4890 1GB DDR5 - 6,440.00 บาท

    HDD - Samsung Spinpoint F1 1TB 7200RPM 32MB Cache S-ATA II - 2,940.00 บาท

    Casing - Coolermaster Elite series - 1,182 บาท

  3. Microsoft tells me my Windows is genuine so I am not going to argue :)

    All this talk of pirated Windows causing viruses and whatnot is just rubbish. The operating system (real or fake) and its working state is only governed by the user and their actions. Therefore a Windows OS (fake or real) with a virus will act the same way. Viruses do not discriminate according to whether you paid for the OS or not. Any half decent PC Technician can install a fake version of Windows that actually works. If you buy a PC with a pirated version installed by someone who does not know what they are doing then it is your fault in the end because you did not check it yourself. Sure, genuine software is obviously better than fake purely for the 'I actually paid for this' factor, but if it was not so expensive to the majority of users to buy a license then maybe more people would go genuine.

    Ian

    Truth. Usually windows error is caused by User error.

    Using a Legit/Pirated copy is all the same. Just know what you are doing and you wouldn't need to clog up your system with all kinds of security.

    Virus is purely caused by the User not knowing what sites he visited and what he is clicking on.

  4. fps it really depends on the game really also the gpu card well lcd are very cheap these days to what i was paying back in the day.. i have a samsung 22"inch but i'm thinking about getting a 40inch plasma ?

    yea it can be very expensive if your not will to go all out then go for something cheap like amd the best bet for you and go crossfire i'm just playing Section 8 wow thats a killer game :)

    Anyhow great computer what you have and interesting to talk to you. Never saw a desktop like this. I just want to build a new desktop since the I7-860 is out now. I am waiting for DX11. But after reading fancy test reports I always end up with the question how far should I go and do I really need this? Then I think just take the better components to be on the safe side. But now I see I could end up with $ 12000 - in my case just to be on the safe side - I am not a gamer. But who knows what the future and a faster PC could bring... Perhaps I should stick to my old desktop to be on the safe side and if I want to play games one day then with an Xbox - I guess for the price of 1 good graphic card :-)))

    Basically Technology is a never ending race. Its expensive to keep up with all the new releases. And it doesn't means since its expensive it's good. Just do some research on the product and know ur stuff you could build a pretty decent rig.

  5. You get a lot of fps. How many fps can a game console achieve? Can the eyes make a difference between 30 fps and 80 fps for instance? And this all on the average LCD monitor that you use?

    I really want to find out if it is not a better idea to buy a game console instead of a PC if you like to play games and play them on a normal TV. A good PC for games is extremely expensive. Then it might be a better idea to play with an old monitor because of the refreshing rates - not to mention the color problems with LCDs.

    You spend so much money to have the perfect games. Please let me know what is wrong with my thinking.

    fps it really depends on the game really also the gpu card <--- you forgot to include FPS also depends on HDD and Proc speed. And also to point out if u get the best Gfx card and a weak Proc , the Proc will bottleneck the gfx card.

    yea it can be very expensive if your not will to go all out then go for something cheap like amd the best bet for you and go crossfire i'm just playing Section 8 wow thats a killer game :)

    Nice rigs , only thing fail about ur rig is Win Vista. Vista fails at gaming. If you were actually using XP/Win7 you would see a major bump in FPS

  6. i live at ratchada soi 36 and used True with 0 problems.

    no connection drops for 6mths running 24hrs a day

    was using True 4mb and get international speeds of 3.5mb constant to san fran and 3+mb to singapore

    downloads have reached max of 650kbps

  7. WD drives has 5 yrs warranty by Synnex

    just sent my WD drive to Synnex at Fortune yesterday. it died after a week.

    What u could do is get a drivebay cooler like the 1 from Coolermaster

    file1178884973152.jpg

    file1180078342512.jpg

    -Convert the three 5.25" drive bays into a four 3.5” HDD module with 12cm sleeve bearing cooling fan

    -Compatible with ATX case with three 5.25" drive bays

    Or you could also buy some fast and use cable ties to tie the fans to the unused bays

    HDD's suppose tp run below 38deg

  8. I got a reminder yesterday about why I have been thinking of using SSD set up with " .. storage on a USB hard drive but with key files and OS on a SSD"

    Something odd happened to my machine and I had to do a system restore .. no problem.

    But I thought it was a good idea to run AV and anti-malware scans. So I had to wait for more than 2 hours for the scan to complete. I don't really like to leave my machine on overnight and I like to run daily AV scans.

    How much faster should a virus scan on a SSD over a HDD be?

    IMO not worth it to run a single SSD. The price for a single SSD i rather run veloraptors in raid.

  9. You could get the

    X4 940 BE @ 7650baht - bought mine at that price 2 weeks ago

    EVGA 9500GT 1GB @ 2200baht or lower

    And get a good PSU from companies like PC&P , Enermax , which has Silver or Gold Cert.

    4GB of rams is enough since no overclocking will be done ValueRams or some cheap DDR2 1066/1200mhz rams from Gskill will be good. ow whichever kind ur motherboard supports

    Spacemunk, that CPU would probably work fine for me. What mainboard are you using?

    im using the gigabyte MA790GP-UD4H its a ATX board cost about 4500baht

    you could get the Biostar TForce TA690GAM2 mATX AM2 DDR2 but i dont know the price

  10. You could get the

  11. Hey there.....I visited "Ms. Judy" today at Jedicool in Pantip. DOTCOM, thank you again for the referral. She's very nice and either had answers or asked her sister for answers....such that I left with no additional questions. Well....none for them. I do have a few follow ups for.......YOU GUYS!! LOL!!

    Here's what I have in terms of very preliminary specs. If you have a second to review 'em....please do so from the perspective of....."money is no issue, building the best dam_n system is!!" Please.......oh pleeeeeeeeease, don't let the specs below stop you from correcting any errors or omissions you think I've made, k? I'll post the specs below....and you'll notice that it is comprised of off the shelf parts. I've seen some incredible claims by a few day trading computer specialists in regards to their "overclocked" systems......which of course are not exactly "off the shelf" components.....but up to now I haven't considered going that route. Should I (obvious concerns with stability, tech support, etc.)? You'll see below that one of my questions is whether I should go for two 24" monitors or one 40" Hi-Def monitor.

    Preliminary specs (preliminary meaning, specifically.....please correct / change anything or everything if you believe I can extract even one iota of additional, even incremental, performance):

    CPU = Intel i7 940 quad core 8M Cache, 2.93 GHz, 4.80 GT/s Intel® QPI

    Motherboard = Gigabyte EX58 Extreme

    Hard Drive = 1TB buffer 32MB Western Digital

    RAM = Geil 6 gig / 1333 (note: I can go 12 gig instead. If money is not an issue.....should I go for 12 gig? Meaning, will it enhance performance of the 32 bit, non hyperthreaded trading software app?)

    VGA Card = Nvidia XFX 9600 GSO (note: I was told that this will handle....right out of the box.....two 24" monitors or one 40" monitor. Which would you recommend....Two 24's or one 40?)

    Optical Drive = DVD_RW Asus brand

    Power Supply = Gigabyte 550 GT silent

    Case = Thermaltake Armor

    Additional CPU Cooler = ThermalRight IFX 14 + 2 fans

    OK....fire away!

    CHEERS!

    D

    CPU = Intel i7 940 quad core 8M Cache, 2.93 GHz, 4.80 GT/s Intel® QPI

    Motherboard = Gigabyte EX58 Extreme <---- Asus Maximus II Formula P45 + Q9650

    Hard Drive = 1TB buffer 32MB Western Digital<--- Would be better to get another OS drive just for the OS. WD Veloci Raptor 74GB x 2 (Raid)

    RAM = Geil 6 gig / 1333 (note: I can go 12 gig instead. If money is not an issue.....should I go for 12 gig? Meaning, will it enhance performance of the 32 bit, non hyperthreaded trading software app?)

    Optical Drive = DVD_RW Asus brand

    Power Supply = Gigabyte 550 GT silent <----since they have PC&P power supplies here i rather go with that or Enermax REVOLUTION85+ 850w

    Case = Thermaltake Armor

    Additional CPU Cooler = ThermalRight IFX 14 + 2 fans <---nice , try and get Scythe S-Flex fans if there r any available
