  1. I think he is the best leader Thailand has presented to the world thus far

I was hoping so too, but have lost all respect for the bloke after his typical Thainess comments regards the Koh Tao incident. He may have apologized in part for his comment upsetting 'some' people, but the damage is done, you know what he's thinking. He could only be the 'best leader' due to his army status and forcing his way in. IMO the most rounded, down to earth leader Thailand could ever hope to have is Mark, but unfortunately this country is just not ready for that quality of statesman.

The last sentence ruined what could have been a good post.

  2. The Daily Mail website should permanently be block to safe guard all innocent Thais.

I am not sure if they have been paid by Thaksin or what, but lately have been publishing a lot of negative things about Thailand, and some info is not exactly true. For example, it say Prayuth came to be PM from coup. Not true. Prayuth was elected by >97% of the voters.

Yesterday, Daily Mail has gone non-stop bad mouth Prayuth about his comment to alert women not to expose themselves too much. That is a very good fatherly advise. Nothing is wrong with that.

    Absolute Bollacks

He does have some valid points.

    Blx!

  3. What we have here is a somewhat conservative man expressing his opinion which since he's PM he shouldn't. As politician he still has much to learn.

Then maybe he shouldn't have become PM, or at least not done so until he could get qualified enough for the job to be able to get elected by the Thai people.

He didn't want to, he was persuaded that the country needed him, a non-politician rather than someone of the lot which couldn't even agree on the colour of an orange if their life depended on it.

Mind you, with all good intentions and the very helpful suggestions of especially TVF members he might improve to the point of being the favorite again for the position late next year.

Persuaded by who, the Democrats, the Bangkok amart and his army chums?

  4. The red apologists will love this 'un!! facepalm.gif

Isn't it simply amazing that even a brutal murder of British Holiday makers can be spun into this red/yellow shirt drivel!!

The General needs to go and do a PR course as he's not doing himself, or the image of Thailand with his comments, I suppose you are in complete agreement with him seeing as you've offered an opinion as to whether he was right or not?

You will be amazed how many Thai people like him for being straightforward. He might not a good diplomat but he isn't sneaky neither. And I haven't heard him say that often that people should go to the relevant authorize for answers.

Again, let the Thai people decide whether or not he has good intentions.

Very difficult seeing they aren't allowed to vote or voice criticisms.

  5. I'm always soooooooo eager to hear the news about her.

Haven't heard anything about my other favourite one, her brother, for a short time now and I'm worried.

    Is he all right?

she was the most beautiful PM ever and everywhere......

If only she would be smart as Thatcher and incorruptible as Chamlong.....

Beautiful, hmm, you don't go out a lot, or you live in a remote mountain temple, do you, when there's some electric and internet there, do review your pics catalog of female PMs anyways, there are a few, well, attractive ones, and seems those had brains too...
  6.

I've just paid 220 baht square metre for indoor floor tiling in my house at Phoenix Golf Pattaya. I tried to beat him down but he dug his heels in at that price.

Regarding concrete, builder has advised me to use cpac for my driveway and patio as he would have to charge more for hand-mixed. Dunno if he's just being lazy or having probs getting the manpower for mixing. In January, at Home Mart Ban Amphur (now Numchai), I was quoted between 1700 and 2060 baht metre cubed depending on strength.

Just for info, other labour prices I've recently paid are:
100 baht sq M outside painting. House on 3 metre columns so one floor up.
70 baht sq M inside painting.
3000 baht linear metre kitchen installation (concrete/tiled base; base cupboards and drawers; tiled worktop; cooker hob and sink; wall tiles to base of wall cupboards. Charge for wall cupboards and cooker hood extra). Similar charge in bathrooms.
1300 baht linear metre for box steel rail on balcony and outside stairs including painting.
500 baht sq M single block laying including cement render each side.

That's all I can think of just now, hope this helps.

Hand mixing without a concrete mixer for 2-3 cu.m of structural concrete? No contractor dare to guarantee the quality and structural strength...;-)

The price of 1700 - 2060 baht cuM from Numchai was for CPAC as the builder advised.

  7. How refreshing.

The qualifications required for the previous regime for the majority of ministers was being a relation of thaksin or at least having a strong connection to him.

This alone highlights a more democratic approach by the Junta and shows they certainly do not hold the population in contempt by putting unqualified yet "connected" people in to positions of power.

  10. If you go to Chonburi Immigration with all the correct documents, which you have processed and then leave straight away, you are ok. The problem arises when you have a question to ask them. They either don't understand what you're saying or they don't know the answer, either way they'll just start shouting at you and pointing to the exit. I know, I've experienced it first-hand once or twice. Being well-mannered towards them and dressing politely makes not the slightest difference. Now, if there's something I'm not 100% sure of, I scour the forums and ask around fellow expats so that I'm forearmed before I set foot in the building. If all else fails, the private visa offices will let you have the info for a few baht I'm sure.
