  1. Agree 100%. Any Thai woman who is a self-admitted, serial "farang-hunter" should be avoided at all cost. These women are not interested in a good-hearted man or a normal relationship--they're interested in money and/or a foreign passport out of misery. Been there, done that.

Any guy that is a serial 'Thai hunter' should probably be avoided by most Thai women as well then. Not interested in a good hearted girl just a 'girl' ;)

Strange response, but let me explain in a way that even you can understand. To compare apples to apples, a farang guy living in America and surrounded by farang women but interested only in Thai women could be called a "Thai hunter" or having a Thai fetish of sorts. The reasons for such a fetish would most likely be devoid of logic, so yes, such guys should probably be avoided. Not the perfect analogy, but just simply to point out that your comparison is not valid.

It's ok, I understand fine, thanks.

Just a little jokey response from me but it seems you've gone and got all defensive and even tried to be a little bit patronising, which is cute ...

  2. Jeez, no discount on the stored value card for each trip basically just a convenience thing? Bit harsh.

How long is the credit valid, I mean can you leave it 3 months, 4 months and then use it again? Is it too good to be true that it applies to the subway as well? Bangkok really needs the 'Oyster Card' type system of London and that so many other cities have, link all the transport, skytrain, subway, buses

  3. My Thai G/f wont let me travel by train as its populated by highwayman, thugs, robbers and all sorts of bad people, you know of course that she has never been on a train! The bus is always better, well its not and I fully intend to have a few journeys with the railways this year.

Rail Travel is the most civilised way to travel and beats the bus all ends up,ok maybe the bus might be quicker but what would you do with the time? I like to see the ever changing picture through my window, have a bite and beer if I want, much less stressful.

I hope the next government, whoever it may be will invest more in it.

    Haha, that's ace.

I remember many years ago being on a train coming back from somewhere slightly North back to Bangkok but at night and there were no seats so ended up in 3rd class carriage. My girlfriend at the time was not happy and guys were drinking, smoking, gambling. The only time I'd say things were a little 'edgy' on a train. She kept telling me 'don't talk to them if they talk to you'. Obviously they were all hammered. No problem though.

I'll take train over bus anyday but does seems some Thai, particularly women love the bus. I just love my own private seat, especially if the person opposite you is someone you know, kick back, have a drink, toilets are right there, brush my teeth at night, have a lay down.

A little touch I do like and not sure if it's by design is those little hooks they have by the seats, just perfect for hanging your bags of food ;)

  4. I did the 3.50pm air asia flight last week and I had to get the 7am Raja boat from Phangan to Donsak. It was a really long day waiting about in Surat so I would recommend other options as you will have lots of time on your hands...

I have done that before (+ the flight got delayed on top of the early start and waiting around :annoyed:) and was trying to avoid in my opening post. I was thinking to myself why the hell have I got up here so bloody early and ended up arriving back in Bangkok about 7pm thought I may as well have taken the train!

Is there a catamaran at mid day too? Surely that would enable you to link up to the bus and then get to the airport not long after 2 rather than leaving early on the slow boat? What I was wondering is if I could just take a later ferry and still make the airport but apparently it's a bit tight according to sbk (who I think is on the island)

  6. If the 0715 dep is too early u can book the flight package deal via Nakhon si Thammarat airport. That deal deps Tong Sala pier at 1200 arriving Don Muang 1705, and around the same price.

I booked the 1pm or whatever it is, arrive BKK 2:30 on Nok right form the pier. 7am is ok, rather get back to Bangkok earlier tbh

    Cheers

  8. Razzler, U can book on the Nok Air website to dep from Tong Sala pier on Phangan by Lomprayah catamaran (departs 0715 arrives Donsak 0845, then bus to Surat Thani airport, dep Donsak 0915 arr Surat Thani airport 1045 then flight DD7213 departs Surat Thani 1320 arr BKK Don Muang 1430.

Price will vary depending how far in advance u book but is 2540 baht all inclusive when booked 3 weeks in advance.

By booking this with NOK u don't have to worry about making the connections, its all done for you.

Ah, yes. So you can, cheers.

For some odd reason I dropped that menu down and decided to totally ignore that bit

Is the catamaran generally reasonably busy? Just wondering about getting from Haad Rin to the pier at that time i.e. do people go there or am I gonna need to pay more as I'll be the only one on the songthaew?

  9. Not been to the South in a while. I will shortly be booking a one-way trip from Surat Thani to Bangkok well before I arrive.

Seems like Nok Air and Air Asia have the best prices, last time I did this I flew Thai Air and was delayed hours and hours!

My question is can anyone give me a little info regarding ferry times from Koh Pha-Ngan back to Surat Thani, I know there

seems to be loads now but I can never keep track.

I am looking at flights on Nok Air departing at 1:20pm and Air Asia departs at 3:55pm.

I assume to get the 1:20pm flight I'd need to be taking a 7/8am ferry to get to Surat and then the airport (booking on the

    island, etc?).

For a 3:55pm flight is there a mid day ferry that would get me back to Surat with enough time to get to the airport and

make that without any hassle? I think that may be the case but just wanted to check the exact timings.

    Much appreciated

  10. I left Hong Kong about a year after the Honkers rail link was sorted and I used it, was ace. They also had the 'in town' check in facility in Central for Cathy. Surely, the benefit is you can check in waaay before the usual 2 or 3 hour check in time so can stroll about without bags? I don't need to check in there and then travel without bags to the airport ... it's really not such a problem to take the bags to the airport. It may be useful if I could drop bags off 5 or 6 hours ahead of time.

Even so, I'd still never use this, just don't 'trust' it, not necessarily theft and this goes for Honkers, Thailand or even England. I am amazed as it is that bags get to where they should all around the world and I don't see the need to further complicate this :/

  11. Will be visiting Koh Chang with the girlfriend late July, I usually get the bus/boat combo from Ekamai but I am not a fan of the 'return ticket' (not even sure they do that from Ekamai).

Just wondering for the return leg if you just hop on the boat back to Laem Ngop can you book a bus ticket there or do you need to Songthaew it back into

Trat town like the old days and get the bus there?

I think previously I have booked the return ticket on the island itself but seem to remember a bit too much hanging about although the bus did go to

Ekamai so it probably was a 'proper' bus rather than some ropey KSR service :/

  12. So, I will be taking my first trip (most likely) on the Airport Link thing since it opened pretty soon and to sum it up there is an express line and a city line.

It appears as though the Express Line is quicker (duh!) and goes to Makksan or Phaya Thai where you can taxi it or link to MRT or BTS.

The City Line goes to those places but with a few stops in between. The time table is a bit freaky.

How long does it take to get to those two places on the City Line then as at the moment the Express Line is not really exciting me.

How long do you think it'll take from airport to hualamphong for instance?

  13. There is also the possibility that the guy is lying. I mean firstly he may be 'old' so she came up with the figure of 70 he could well be younger and also he says he works at the airport but he could just be retired, living the life in Thailand, doing some tutor work (in or out of University) and told everyone he 'has a good job at the airport' when his tutoring is all he does

  14. I have always read his column over the years, I don't get to spend as much time as I used to in Thailand so I used to enjoy it. That said, I am not really into the whole bar girl thing but I still didn't mind reading about it. It's a shame there isn't something similar for more regular 'out and about around town' stuff that doesn't involve hookers but then again maybe no one cares about regular bars with good happy hours or food and the prospect of regular girls/guys hanging out? [/naive] :D

I never understood why he didn't change the site, it's 'Stickman' yet you need to scroll down and squint to see the link to his column! Put that right at the bloody top! I also noticed he seemed to be on a right downer recently. I hadn't read anything for a few months so went back recently to 'catch up' and I noticed a definite change in tone. I was even thinking of sending him a message to say 'are you alright, relax' because didn't seem like all was right with the world.

I agree with the facts being in the way of a good story, some columns seem to have just been chucked out there recently, I mean I am sure everyone knows the Thai bar scene as well and I speak decent enough Thai (slowly fading!) but the 'night out' in this magical, secret bar with a girl throwing herself was a little ... hmmmm for me, not to say I haven't gone out, got numbers, etc but it seemed almost too perfect a scenario.

Anyway, I never read the contributions on there but I'd not want to get in the way of someone getting paid or getting laid and if he can make good money from the site in Thailand or elsewhere then fair play, keep it up, it's taken a hell of a lot of dedication over the years, I am sure.

One thing though, I know Stick writes about that stuff but was always under the impression he was a little more well behaved, got a missus, earns decent, etc but keeps up with things/friends for the content of the site but being new to Twitter I thought I would check him out on there and was actually a bit disappointed (weird, eh?) that he was more 'this bird that, did that bird, 2 birds the other night' sort of thing. Basically made me think of him as an expat whorer rather than someone with a little more about him, kind of weird.

People say stuff like 'he drinks here for free, there for free' but to be honest I'd be doing that too using my site. I mean, who really takes 'advice' from the site, it's just a bit of fun, bit of a story, some comments about bars opening and closing but that's it, not sure his comments would dissuade me from going anywhere, I know what it's all about.

That 'not stickman' thing is one of the most pathetic things I have ever read in my life and that whole deal with Stick and that fellow was ridiculous, the guy got everything coming to him.

  15. For Air Stewardesses that are mooses chuck any North American airline in there too.

I don't use Thai airways but no inflight entertainment in this day and age is ridiculous. I am a simple person, just want my own TV and some beers for the flight.

Also, don't use Gulf Air, they are shockingly poor! From Dubai I always use Virgin to the UK and to Bangkok I tend to use Singapore or Qatar or whoever has a good deal (which is never Thai!)
